it's amazing to me how many ppl speak of 'making love' to this song. what about being yourselves and being completely and totally engaged in EACH other, and the sounds that are occurring between the consummation rather than some techno-beat music with celibate men chanting in the background ? you guys are BIZARRE.......love the song tho.. not dissin it at ALL
Michael Cretu is from Romania, his ex wife Sandra (from Germany) was a big star during the 1980’s (Maria Magdalena hit). Together they created Enigma in 1990. The languages used on their records have been English, Latin, French, Indian chanting and Greek (old). Depending on what record it is, a combination of these languages has been used.
Add to this all the remixes, some that call "Mea Culpa", 4th track in the album, "Mea Culpa (Part II)", and you get all this confusion. This video here is actually Sadeness (Reprise), i.e. part 3 of the triplet. You can see almost the whole thing here watch?v=YOxuaGp1gJc , even though that video is erroneously referred to as only being Part 1. 0:00 to 2:08 is "The Voice of Enigma", 2:08 to 6:24 is "Sadeness", 6:24 to the end is "Find Love", incomplete, with "Sadeness (Reprise)" missing entirely.
The whole song is called "Principles of Lust", divided into three parts: 1) "Sadeness (Part 1)", 2) "Find Love" (sometimes also called "Principles of Lust" itself due to its lyrics) and 2) "Sadeness (Reprise)", all three from Enigma's debut album "MCMXC a.D." (the low cap a not being a typo). Prior to part 1 is "The Voice of Enigma", a meditation-like intro that is sometimes attached to it to make it sound like a single 6 1/2 minutes track.
I prefer this one too Part 1, even though both are spectacular. If I might add something to the discussion though:
Instead of picturing 'peace' or 'tranquility', try to experience the sublime and forbidden, and try to imagine that these are the sounds you hear as you lose control of your moral and social restraints. Or perhaps the Marquis got to my head :) Read his works to truly complement it is all I'm saying.
I have noticed that (in my opinion), the songs on the CD may have been arranged in an order that was not intended for the listener to hear? Seems that some songs start with the ending of the previous songs or end with the following song, and are not in the right order... Figuring that order out tends to become the true Enigma!
@Adam060756 yes! that's sandra the wifeof Michael Cretu the director and producer of Enigma project. His arts are most likely this genre like " Moonlight Flower" . now he formed this enigma project. for his passion be done.
On 7 January 1988, Sandra married Michael Cretu and relocated from Munich to the Spanish island of Ibiza
I dont really care if he had sexually depravations this song is amazing even part 1 of sadeness. This song just makes me feel relaxed and calm and laid-back :)
@Chrisx909 This is Sadeness Part 2... I'm thinking the comment made earlier was in reference to the Principles of Lust trilogy of which you noted above.
I took a french class in high school and remember almost nothing but when I heard the words they sounded french. When I read the comment posted by Jmpalacios and read Marquis de Sade he appeared french. I looked him up and found out he was. Amazing that after all these years of not hearing nor seeing any french I recognized a name that looked french and words that sounded as if they were too. Strange how that works. Something that is long forgotten and never used can come back in an instant.
@Tapion058 You can find the lyrics to the song, in both French/Latin & English, over at lyricsmania in the sadeness_lyrics_enigma.html page, enjoy! (sorry for spelling it out like that, Youtube does not allow posting URLs in comments as a spam prevention mechanism)
One comment that I would make is that the song isn't really called "Sadness", but actually "Sadeness". The name is not a reference to being sad or anything of the sort, but rather to the Marquis de Sade and all his sexual depravations, which is why this music is, ohhh so deliciously intentionally, so sexually charged. Thanks for posting!
@cheekymonkey880 No problem! I love this song too, but it doesn't exactly "relax" me ;) Well, it does... afterwards, if you know what I mean ;) heheheh!
@jmpalacios the wiki clarifies this arguement. it isn't sadness, but sadeness. The frechman (sp?) was a little, how should I say, totally fucked up in the head. His writings still on, despite his family acknowledging AND denying his existence.
But everyone forgets, he did not start the S&M culture. He just wrote about it.
ANYWAY!
I think Enigma needs to come out with something new, they are frakkin awesome :)
i think there is a part thats missing in this posted version.. i remember there was a slower sounding part that reminded me of fairies dancing on lilly pads or something LOL
