@irrelevent100 I was referring to the electoral college. As they went through each state, Reagan was winning in every region of the country, even in those states Republicans normally didn't win back then(i.e. Mass., R.I.). Reagan won almost 98% of the electoral vote, and he barely lost Mondale's home state. I believe the nation was fairly unified that night.
Somebody should have gotten plenty of coffeemakers going in the Mondale camp because after D.C. was called, it would be a LONG time before there was any other good news (when he BARELY carried Minnesota; and that was called, I think, close to 2:00 a.m.)
It's amazing how accepting we were toward him. It's not often they can put some of these states together on election night. They tell you about TX and then take you to Jersey, then the Midwest, followed by New England, then Kansas and then back to NE.
Even Nixon's 72 49er isn't like this. He didn't have to convince everyone he wasn't just an actor. Thanks to everyone who delivered 44 outta 50 in 1980 and who made it possible to get it up to 49. And He was less than 4000 votes away from a 50th.
0:25 "No Democrat has ever won the presidency without carrying Texas." Well, that's long since ended. Clinton in '92 & '96, Obama in '08, and (possibly) Al Gore in '00. Texas is a solidly Republican state and hasn't been a battleground state in well over 30 years.
Who's gonna be our nominee in 2012? I wanna see a sweep like this but who can do it? Gary Sinise could probably get close to 50 maybe more than a lotta the candidates so he's who I'm kinda hoping for...for some reason!

Reagan did not ruin this country. You folks on the LEFT still can't get through your heads how Jimmy Carter ruined this country, and Reagan fixed things. As for the problems now, you can thank Clinton, Reid, and Barney "THE QUEEN" Frank. They eased the mortgage lending process, so when people defaulted, Clinton would be long gone! Clinton didn't care who won or lost in '00, but I'll bet Gore and Kerry are laughing they lost! It's the LEFT that ruins things and makes themselves look good!
Who was PRESIDENT during the last 8 years? BUSH. Who made the economy come to it's knees? BUSH. You can say whatever you want about the "Left";Until 2006, this country was under the neocons leadership for 12 years. They bankrupted the country, they lied us into war in Iraq, they depleted the resourses of the armed forces by going into a country that had nothing to do with the original reason of being in the middle east. By the way, speaking of education, you spelled "admit" wrong and it's "you're" for "you are" not "your."
And yes, I am still counting. Now it's 1,210 DAYS TO GO!

And now we have NOBAMA being mum on federal grant money to Gadaffi! Maybe you don't remember who Gadaffi is, but I do! This man is a dangerous dictator who was having secrets sold to him by Billy "THE DRUNK" Carter, Jimmy's brother! Tell me that isn't TRUE! If that doesn't get the LIBERAL LEFT up in arms, then they are all IN DENIAL!
Just like Bush and Bin Laden were in bed when in he was in the oil(if he coulf ever get any pumped out of the ground) back in the 70's? TELL ME THAT ISN"T TRUE ALSO, the your are IN DENIAL AS WELL!
"Priviou?" "Your are" insteads of "YOU'RE!" I'm obviously dealing with someone not well-educated who believes everything in the liberal media. Answer me this. Even your precious LEFT-WING party couldn't get the public option out of committee. Members of your own party voted against it! How smart do they look now?
You know, I've noticed how you people on the left never addmit anything wrong. You either blame the Republicans or just say it was "out of your control". Even though you control things now and the Republicans have little power. Countdown all you want, but in the end your going to realize that you have nothing to offer. You just blame us because you think its a good strategy. You'll find out soon enough.
1. I don't think Obama is god. He's a politician. 2. His mistake has been trying to be bipartisan with a party that wants him to fail (very Un-American, I think). 3. The Republicans blame "liberals" for everything. Do you ever watch Fox News? 4. You didn't answer my question: how is Obama a socialist?
No, you guys act like Obama is God. You also act like all Republicans walk in lockstep. Obama's healthcare plan is a joke, he wants to give amnesty to illegal aliens, he wants more government control of our lives and you guys are okay with that. People are now realizing once again that the Democrats are no better.
Pot calling kettle..... You are acting like all "liberals" are in lock-step! Don't criticize a health-plan I am certain that you have not read, and repeating ridiculous "talking points" from Faux News. I'm not a fan of the Democratic congressional leadership myself. But the congressional budget office (non-partisan) has said that Sen. Baucas's plan will save $87 billion over 10 years. Is that bad?
Oh and Obama has NEVER been bipartisan, he and the Democrats which have control of Congress has tried to make it look that way so they can continue to blame the other side for everything.
I never once said that Faux News was the only "news organization" that provides more opinion than news. I am critical of both. You assumed that I wouldn't be, and you are wrong.
Oh, and (1) at least MSNBC doesn't claim to be "fair and balanced" which you KNOW is a lie; (2) I never claimed to be a Democrat. I'm a liberal; and (3) how is saving $87 billion a bad thing? you never answered that. Probably because you only know the right-wingnut talking points.
The healthcare thing is just the government trying to gain more control over our lives. I don't have enough space to post all of the facts of it but do some research. Obama was also truly lying when he said that illegal aliens won't be covered under his healthcare plan. Just recently Congressional Democrats have tried to include them in the bill.
Actually, I'm CONSERVATIVE, which is not the same as IGNORANT, but if you wish to sling mud, all I can say is this man is a SOCIALIST, and he is trying to rewrite the Constitution! TEA PARTIES etc. won't let him, and now there are 1,196 DAYS TO GO!
These days they are exactly the same. I used to be one. i know. Obama is not a socialist, that is right-wing fascist propaganda. The tea-baggers are illiterates who dislike Obama because he's black (not all, but most). Can you explain how Obama is a socialist?
How about you liberals and your propaganda like anyone who disagrees with the man you people see as God, Barack Obama, is a racist. That is getting really old and hardly anybody is buying it.
Government is not the solution to the problem. Government is the problem. I've been told politics is the second oldest profession, and it bears a striking resemblance to the first. NOBAMA is a SOCIALIST in every aspect in which he wants to take over government. This has nothing to do with race! JC Watts of Oklahoma is a Conservative. If Watts had run against NOBAMA, Hillary, or Dean, I'd have voted for Watts each time!

Your ignorance is giving me a headache. Saying he is a socialist doesn't make it so. Besides, the happiest people on earth (according to a recent poll) live in Norway, a European social democracy. This country has been ruined by people like you, who seem to revel in anti-intellectualism. You are wrong historically, politically, and factually. People like you have ruined this country. Absolutely ruined it. Bush brought us here. Elect Palin to finish the job, if you'd like.
Government is like a baby, an alimentary canal at one end and no sense of responsiblity at the the other. Just look at this bad HEALTH PLAN! If you think Norway is so great, I'm sure they have flights that will take you there. We're going to start listening to Norwegians telling us how to live!
The problem with Liberals is not that they are ignorant. It's that they know so much that isn't true! Now there are 1,195 DAYS TO GO!
How typical. "Go to Norway!" Can we learn nothing from other nations? I certainly think we can ... especially when THEY ARE DEMONSTRATIVELY HAPPIER THAN WE ARE.
These other countries bad mouth us, but when they need help, who do they call? Reagan only played a major role in ending the Soviet Union once and for all, but he gets snubbed by the Nobel Prize committee. That's OK. He only got re-elected President while Carter lost his bid, and Gore lost his by losing his own state of Tennessee!
And now there are 1,559 DAYS TO GO! Actually, while I can only listen to recordings of the LATE GREAT REAGAN, I am listening to FOX NEWS and Mike Huckabee et. al. I refuse to listen to NBC, THE NOBAMA CHANNEL, CBS, THE CLINTON BROADCAST STATION, or ABC, THE ALL BARACK CHANNEL!
With the first 100 days of Obama's Admin at and end, it is a mirror of Jimmy Carter's first 100. The disapproval numbers are rising sharply and the far left now controls the country. Look for a historic backlash next year - 130 Congressional seats moving away from the Democrat side.
Yeah, oh man, people sure hate Obama! He ONLY has a 67% (down from ONLY a 68%) approval rating and ONLY has a 90+% approval rating for voters under 30.
Face it, buddy. All the Democrats need to do after Bush to win the White House for the next 3+ electoral cycles is nominate people who aren't collosal fuckups, are smarter than dirt and more charismatic than a, well, Bush.
Seriously though, hahaha "disapproval numbers rising sharply". How does that far right kool-aid taste?
Now, if I may get all "Ivory Tower Liberal Elitist" on you and remind you of history, NO PARTY has *EVER* had a president that was as unpopular a fuck up as Bush was and regained the White House during the next election cycle. NEVER.
Think Hoover, think Johnson (Lincoln's Johnson), think, yes, Jimmy Carter.
In fact, since you like to bring up Carter like most rightwing bobbleheads, so let me remind you that even JIMMY FUCKING CARTER wasn't as unpopular as Bush was.
Sadly, the reason why I doubt Romney would win is because of his faith. It shouldn't matter, but to some it do. The only chance the Republicans have is if the Economy really tanks. If the Economy rebounds, Obama will be FDR and Reagan wrapped in one. He most likely would try to do to Romney what Bush did to Kerry, which is go after his past inconsistencies. Obama can't win 49 states, but I could see him reach 58 or 59 percent of vote in maximum favorable conditions.
The way I look at it, Obama starts with a natural surplus of about 10 million votes over McCain/GOP. Factor in that the next wave of first time voters (15-17 year olds right now) will break towards Obama, heavily. Those are two big feathers in his cap. The country is trending Democratic, Heavily.
Unless Obama really fucks up, and I mean *REALLLLLLLY* fucks up... like, invades Iran or someone takes a picture of him wiping his ass with the American flag, he's going to get at least 300 EV's next time.
If the economy shows signs of improvement, 350.
If we get some kind of Clinton-esque boom like we had during the mid-to-late 90's, ~400 EV's.
He'll never get over 410ish because some states are simply never going to vote for a dude with a D next to his name, let alone a black dude.
Romney? Psh. It'd be way to easy to bury that guy. He could be swiftboated by a trained chimp.
All you'd need to do is dredge up videos of his numerous and well-documented flip flops, while simultaneously framing him as some kind of rich, disconnected, shifty businessman (since America just LOVES those right now) who can't make up his mind about his positions and there ya go.
Trust me, the next GOP nominee will be a Bob Dole-esque "welp, we gotta run somebody" pick. They're saving Jindal.
no one will ever win this many states again in history ever. Unless of course we get more states in the future. I wouldn't mind cuba becoming a state as it should have in the 1800s
no one will ever win all 50 states. Or more specifically all electoral votes. Washington DC will always go Democratic, people who work for the government would never vote against bigger government.
actually it's refreshing to see the basic coverage instead of all the panels of activists and party hacks they use these days that sit there and debate endlessly about strategy and how the next administration will govern.
It's shameful and pathetic how Brinkley and Jennings attempt to mollify the sting of this election, with projections of meaningless local, state , and federal a
Amen to that mrp0518, thank God people like Lysander1979, wing667 were in the minority Nov. 4th. The Obama haters know there days r numbered, and they cannot come to terms with the fact that the President that has represented their warped, war mongering and short sighted philosophy has been deemed by our country as AN ABSOLUTE FAILURE, PERIOD.
I loved watching those returns on the Democrats winning all of those Senate seats while Reagan was carrying them in the electoral college and also winning most of the rest of the country.
no we're alreday in the depressing days 8 years of a horrible president so cry about Obama if you thought another 4 years of bush like ideas was a great idea thank goodness you were in the minority.
PLEASE,President Obama will win in a landslide the way the Republicans are acting. I can't wait to see all of your jaws drop when you see he gets reelected.
I think it is the burden of the Dems to pass their own agenda, especially since they have a large majority in both Houses and the White House. But for some reason, I don't see them accomplishing much. Still waiting on that whole "recovery" thing. I am sure the American people will turn out to vote in mass numbers for a party that has delivered them the largest tax increase in history and an 18% unemployment rate. That's the gamble...if Dems do well without Republicans, they win. 13 months
The unemployment rate is not even 10%. The Stimulus is working. The Senate is more important and powerful if he wants to get any of his bills passed. The President's tax cut gave relief to 98.6% of all Americans. He's only been in for about 8 and 1/2 months, recovery does not happen overnight.
Those tax cuts were quite an accomplishment. I spend my extra $13/month on a couple beers at a sports event. That should carry the economy to prosperity by next year. Still waiting to see the benefits of the Stimulus Bill...Obama said unemployment would go above 8% without it. I guess he was slightly off. And the Senate, well, they will spend their remaining time dealing with Democrat infighting, ignoring the economy. I stand by my projection - 20% unemployment by November 2010.
This coverage is so adorably sweet. Almost can't believe it's really, it's so amateurish and preppy: "Basketball, not baseball". ANd Kerry and Biden, wow. It is real!
From :27-:30 it's hilarious that Peter Jennings says that no Democrat, up to that point ever won the Presidency without Texas. As if Andrew Jackson(twice), Martin Van Buren and James K. Polk don't count.

"Priviou?" "Your are" insteads of "YOU'RE!" I'm obviously dealing with someone not well-educated who believes everything in the liberal media. Answer me this. Even your precious LEFT-WING party couldn't get the public option out of committee. Members of your own party voted against it! How smart do they look now?
vccstudents 2 years ago
You know, I've noticed how you people on the left never addmit anything wrong. You either blame the Republicans or just say it was "out of your control". Even though you control things now and the Republicans have little power. Countdown all you want, but in the end your going to realize that you have nothing to offer. You just blame us because you think its a good strategy. You'll find out soon enough.
bjoh249 2 years ago 2
ShawnML2 2 years ago
No, you guys act like Obama is God. You also act like all Republicans walk in lockstep. Obama's healthcare plan is a joke, he wants to give amnesty to illegal aliens, he wants more government control of our lives and you guys are okay with that. People are now realizing once again that the Democrats are no better.
bjoh249 2 years ago
Pot calling kettle..... You are acting like all "liberals" are in lock-step! Don't criticize a health-plan I am certain that you have not read, and repeating ridiculous "talking points" from Faux News. I'm not a fan of the Democratic congressional leadership myself. But the congressional budget office (non-partisan) has said that Sen. Baucas's plan will save $87 billion over 10 years. Is that bad?
ShawnML2 2 years ago
Oh and Obama has NEVER been bipartisan, he and the Democrats which have control of Congress has tried to make it look that way so they can continue to blame the other side for everything.
bjoh249 2 years ago
Totally untrue. Obama has tried hard to include Republicans and they have rebuffed him at every turn.
ShawnML2 2 years ago
Do you ever watch MSNBC and how they rubbestamp everything Obama does and label Obama's dissent(nearly half of America now)as racist??
bjoh249 2 years ago
I don't watch MSNBC that often, because I like news, not opinion, for the most part.
ShawnML2 2 years ago
Then don't point fingers at the Republicans with Fox News when you Democrats have you own version.
bjoh249 2 years ago
I never once said that Faux News was the only "news organization" that provides more opinion than news. I am critical of both. You assumed that I wouldn't be, and you are wrong.
ShawnML2 2 years ago
Oh, and (1) at least MSNBC doesn't claim to be "fair and balanced" which you KNOW is a lie; (2) I never claimed to be a Democrat. I'm a liberal; and (3) how is saving $87 billion a bad thing? you never answered that. Probably because you only know the right-wingnut talking points.
ShawnML2 2 years ago
The healthcare thing is just the government trying to gain more control over our lives. I don't have enough space to post all of the facts of it but do some research. Obama was also truly lying when he said that illegal aliens won't be covered under his healthcare plan. Just recently Congressional Democrats have tried to include them in the bill.
bjoh249 2 years ago 2
You're ignorant. Grow up.
ShawnML2 2 years ago
Actually, I'm CONSERVATIVE, which is not the same as IGNORANT, but if you wish to sling mud, all I can say is this man is a SOCIALIST, and he is trying to rewrite the Constitution! TEA PARTIES etc. won't let him, and now there are 1,196 DAYS TO GO!
vccstudents 2 years ago 3
These days they are exactly the same. I used to be one. i know. Obama is not a socialist, that is right-wing fascist propaganda. The tea-baggers are illiterates who dislike Obama because he's black (not all, but most). Can you explain how Obama is a socialist?
ShawnML2 2 years ago
How about you liberals and your propaganda like anyone who disagrees with the man you people see as God, Barack Obama, is a racist. That is getting really old and hardly anybody is buying it.
bjoh249 2 years ago 2

ShawnML2 2 years ago
Government is like a baby, an alimentary canal at one end and no sense of responsiblity at the the other. Just look at this bad HEALTH PLAN! If you think Norway is so great, I'm sure they have flights that will take you there. We're going to start listening to Norwegians telling us how to live!
The problem with Liberals is not that they are ignorant. It's that they know so much that isn't true! Now there are 1,195 DAYS TO GO!
vccstudents 2 years ago 2
How typical. "Go to Norway!" Can we learn nothing from other nations? I certainly think we can ... especially when THEY ARE DEMONSTRATIVELY HAPPIER THAN WE ARE.
ShawnML2 2 years ago
These other countries bad mouth us, but when they need help, who do they call? Reagan only played a major role in ending the Soviet Union once and for all, but he gets snubbed by the Nobel Prize committee. That's OK. He only got re-elected President while Carter lost his bid, and Gore lost his by losing his own state of Tennessee!
We don't need Norway telling us to lean LEFT!

@vccstudents Oh please. Keep listening to Reagan

With the first 100 days of Obama's Admin at and end, it is a mirror of Jimmy Carter's first 100. The disapproval numbers are rising sharply and the far left now controls the country. Look for a historic backlash next year - 130 Congressional seats moving away from the Democrat side.
whizkid1777 2 years ago
Yeah, oh man, people sure hate Obama! He ONLY has a 67% (down from ONLY a 68%) approval rating and ONLY has a 90+% approval rating for voters under 30.
Face it, buddy. All the Democrats need to do after Bush to win the White House for the next 3+ electoral cycles is nominate people who aren't collosal fuckups, are smarter than dirt and more charismatic than a, well, Bush.
Seriously though, hahaha "disapproval numbers rising sharply". How does that far right kool-aid taste?

Sadly, the reason why I doubt Romney would win is because of his faith. It shouldn't matter, but to some it do. The only chance the Republicans have is if the Economy really tanks. If the Economy rebounds, Obama will be FDR and Reagan wrapped in one. He most likely would try to do to Romney what Bush did to Kerry, which is go after his past inconsistencies. Obama can't win 49 states, but I could see him reach 58 or 59 percent of vote in maximum favorable conditions.
MIKESOWELL 2 years ago 3
The way I look at it, Obama starts with a natural surplus of about 10 million votes over McCain/GOP. Factor in that the next wave of first time voters (15-17 year olds right now) will break towards Obama, heavily. Those are two big feathers in his cap. The country is trending Democratic, Heavily.
bigfilmhat 2 years ago
So unless there is a scandal, the economy will have to be mediocre/stagnant for for the Republicans to win with a strong candidate.
If the economy is strong in 2012 they will struggle to get 100 electoral votes.
If the economy is booming strong in 2012, than Mississippi is a battleground state.
bigfilmhat 2 years ago
Unless Obama really fucks up, and I mean *REALLLLLLLY* fucks up... like, invades Iran or someone takes a picture of him wiping his ass with the American flag, he's going to get at least 300 EV's next time.
If the economy shows signs of improvement, 350.
If we get some kind of Clinton-esque boom like we had during the mid-to-late 90's, ~400 EV's.
He'll never get over 410ish because some states are simply never going to vote for a dude with a D next to his name, let alone a black dude.
AwfulVision 2 years ago
How does Obama look under minimal favorable conditions? He has 13 months to go...
whizkid1777 2 years ago
Its possible that a sweep like this could happen if the Republicans nominate Jindal, Palin, or Gingrich. Their only hope is Romney.
kbutler2012 2 years ago
Romney?
AwfulVision 2 years ago 2
no one will ever win this many states again in history ever. Unless of course we get more states in the future. I wouldn't mind cuba becoming a state as it should have in the 1800s
no one will ever win all 50 states. Or more specifically all electoral votes. Washington DC will always go Democratic, people who work for the government would never vote against bigger government.
I willl give everyone a dollar if it happens

whizkid1777 2 years ago 3
PLEASE,President Obama will win in a landslide the way the Republicans are acting. I can't wait to see all of your jaws drop when you see he gets reelected.
Suprkit 2 years ago
I think it is the burden of the Dems to pass their own agenda, especially since they have a large majority in both Houses and the White House. But for some reason, I don't see them accomplishing much. Still waiting on that whole "recovery" thing. I am sure the American people will turn out to vote in mass numbers for a party that has delivered them the largest tax increase in history and an 18% unemployment rate. That's the gamble...if Dems do well without Republicans, they win. 13 months
whizkid1777 2 years ago
The unemployment rate is not even 10%. The Stimulus is working. The Senate is more important and powerful if he wants to get any of his bills passed. The President's tax cut gave relief to 98.6% of all Americans. He's only been in for about 8 and 1/2 months, recovery does not happen overnight.
Suprkit 2 years ago
Those tax cuts were quite an accomplishment. I spend my extra $13/month on a couple beers at a sports event. That should carry the economy to prosperity by next year. Still waiting to see the benefits of the Stimulus Bill...Obama said unemployment would go above 8% without it. I guess he was slightly off. And the Senate, well, they will spend their remaining time dealing with Democrat infighting, ignoring the economy. I stand by my projection - 20% unemployment by November 2010.
