  • YOU KNOW THAT THEY ARE ALL GOOD IF THEY USE THE THIRD VALVE!!!

  • dat...is..the shittttttt!

  • True, but ya have to admit, they are all excellent players and the way they approach their solos is unique to their own playing style. You can definitely hear the difference in tone :P

  • I wouldn't call Randy's playing shy, but rather spacey. Miles did it well. Anyways, His trumpet has such a nice tone.

  • good stuff!,,, not fair Randy and Chuck,, no DX77 for you!,,, come back one year!!!!!!

  • Excellent!

  • I admit this tune is outstanding, so as a double homage (Noble and Brown). They all were great, but there are some few points I see:

    1. Arturo, little excessive.

    2.. Randy, notably shy.

    3. Chuck and.Byron, pretty balanced.

    Anyway, this video is excellent!

  • Amazing!!!

  • wow, so amazing, Wynton Marsalis would have completed the All-Stars line-up...

  • "So what did you do this weekend?"...."I did a WHOLE BUNCH OF COCAINE and PLAYED THE SHIT OUT A TRUMPET!!! My ears popped 18 times, I passed out twice, blew a blood vessel in my right eye...Oh yeah and had a brain aneurysm and I'm dead...Did I mention I'm dead from being so badass at trumpet I f***ing killed myself from it."

  • Every once and a while amazing things like this come together live. If you are a fan of great live music than you must appreciate the artistry and excitement that comes from moments like this. 10 thumbs up!

  • One of those displays where they get paid by the note rather than the content. Technical tours de force nonetheless

  • I wonder those 8 dislikers came from? Most likely another galaxy.:D

  • @augie1111 probably San Francisco, lol

  • Wow. I was expecting something, but not this xD

  • Al Hirt ,ín his prime, would have held his own in this one also.

  • every now and then you just need your face melted

  • THIS IS JUST PLAIN AND SIMPLE>>> MIND BLOWING!!!!!!

  • I don't care which one you like the best.....that was one of the best displays of artistic difference in styles coming together as one!

  • 4:01 SANDOVAL " I'll show you high byotch.......

  • Larga vida a estos señores y a nosotros para escucharlos por siempre...!!!

  • fantastic..........

  • Love Byron's solo at around 3:20. Probably has the best sound there.

  • OMG ...that's magnificient!!!!

  • otro show con estos vatos pero ninguno como el gran maestro sandoval!!

  • Holy...

  • THIS IS ABOUT AS GOOD AS IT GETS

  • What else can you say but fucking amazing

  • which one was sandoval?

  • @rareflorence the guy taking the first solo.

  • Crotchet 200 nailing semi quavers on a pet. I feel sorry for Randy to be honest, litte out of his league..........haha

  • this is just ridiculous! amazing!!

  • Listen to Rafael Mendez and then you will understand who has been the best trumpet player

  • ... de nuevo escuchando esta maravilla de tema... energia pura!!!

  • DO THEY EVEN BREATHE?!?

  • @staarshineee Yes. It's a process known as 'circular breathing'. Look it up, it's pretty cool for wind and brass players...

  • sandoval is mercyless! It´s a bliss that he didn´t decide to be a warrior

  • Is that Dave Weckl on drums...kinda looks like him, but doesn't quit sound like the drums tones I'm used to hearing from him...regaurdless, "..." is all I have to say about this.

  • @iplaytama Yea thats Weckl alright, smashing away on that ride with nano-second perfection, Just a shame hes not wearing his trademark Sleevless Zildjan Vest............

  • after watching this I started doing the excercises I usually do after playing very high notes on the trumpet. Then I realized I hadn't actually been playing the trumpet. You can REALLY get inside this jam. Great stuff.

  • no me canso de escucharlos..... lo maximo

  • Noooooooooooo me cansaré de eschuchar a estos barbaros de la trompeta!!!

Esta canción es energía al máximo... y A. Sandoval es impresionante!!!!

  • This is trumpet heaven

  • Is Chuck the best or what???

  • @bcc50

    he is!

  • es lo mejor, pu.... madr...... el mejor arturo sandoval...!

  • sigh...unreal

  • oh my (fill in the blank)

  • See! All we need to do is brush our teeth and say our prayers and all will be well with the world.

  • holy crap on a cracker!

  • It's all in the lips my frends......

  • @melissalewis100 actually a strong gut and fast air is what allows you to play that high. A small hole with your lips are essential, but all that strain you see them going through isn't them pursing their lips, but them pushing air using their abs and stomach muscles.

  • bueno bueno bueno!!! !!! !!!

  • my ears came! TWO TIMES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • The four elephants want to mate.

  • Amazingggggggggggg

  • amazing

  • i could watch this video for days

  • can never find any better than these 4 playing together on this song.

  • Chuck is the only one laying it down with Art!

Go Chuck!! He sounded a little like Maynard during the trade offs, whew!!

  • (bows down) We're not worthy!

  • It`s just a Circus.

  • I love that they play clifford's solo in unison. A great homage to a great player.

  • @jazzbass92125 it's cause his solo's pretty much turned into the theme....twas that good....

  • LEADER MAXIMO...

  • Hats off to these guys for successfully undergoing simultaneous Cherokee seisures.

  • SO MUCH AWESOMENESS...CANNOT COMPREHEND...

  • arturo for the win

  • come on Byron lol, get up there.

  • Lo maximo !

  • It's incredible that Arturo didn't miss that last note. :D

Brecker played the best solo in my opinion.

  • @mightyservant Randy may not be the most technical, but he probably is the most musical and lyrical. That's more important to me than being the fastest or playing the hightest notes.

  • I´m absolutely blown away!! This is amazing!!

  • saw the all stars in Aruba 1998, me and dad were drunk have to recall the names on poster... but this was most remembered.

  • man, man, man,,, this is music.!!! best of the best

  • Byron is so cleanly and sanitized.... He sounds mighty expensive.

  • what is this genre of jazz called? someone please tell me!

  • @redgreenpaper Hard Bop

  • @redgreenpaper its just called swing... but they took this really fast

  • 2:33 - 2:39 In my opinion the best phrase in this video. Stunning.

  • Dave Weckl on drums! :)

  • incrivel as improvisaçoes!!!

  • Where do the line that they play in unison at the beginning comes from? Is it taken from an older recording of Cherokee? Or from KoKo by Bird?

  • it's a transscribed solo by clifford brown

  • @jazzanova68 Thank you very much ;)

  • It's a four part arrangement of Clifford Brown's solo. They play the head at the end.

  • @Dedalusalley Arturo Sandoval recorded an album in 1992 dedicated to Clifford Brown called I remember Clifford. He took Brown's recording to Cherokee and transcribed it - then recorded all four trumpet parts. These four guys are playing Arturo's transcription of Brown's line.

  • are they tounging when they do those runs?

  • Comment removed

  • Amazing track, amazing solos, amazing guys...

Regardless of this video (don't know if this is right English^^) I think Arturo is the best trumpetplayer of these four and Randy is the best musician.

  • holy shit

  • i don't think anyone "schools" anyone. You're missing the point. All these guys have their own sound and style. Just because someone can play higher than someone doesn't mean shit.

  • When did I say anything about playing higher? Arturo plays more trumpet than most.

Since I've sat next to two of these three guys and worked, I could actually know the difference..

Now go back to band camp and figure it out..

  • @tpt1111 Agreed.

  • @tpt1111 Well who are you then? And if you've sat next to two of them I would LOVE to see you say to their faces that Arturo "schooled" them. Arturo is an AMAZING player but I don't see any schooling. All I see is another big mouthed YouTuber.

  • @tmcdona1

I think they are all great Arturo has a high range but from what i see the others match up to him easy

  • @tmcdona1 I could not agree more man....personally jazz wise I liked the 2nd and 4th solos the best.Obviously they are all fabulous.Actually the 3rd and 4th parts are probably the most difficult....and they memorized them yet...hooohahhh

  • @tmcdona1 Agreed...see Davis, Miles.

  • Yes but hes the most unmodest trumpet player out the 3 of them. hes kind of a jerk in my opinion. NO OFFENSE!

  • Yeah he does have a tendency to be a lil show, but ARTURO is da man. I actually like his edgy-ness.

  • 4:04 jeezaz christ!

  • NO HABRA OTRO COMO ARTURO SANDOVAL

  • Arturo es el mejor, seguramente

  • I wouldn't even attempt to make it a contest. They are all fantastic. Although it would be interesting if Wynton and Jon Faddis were up there on the stage as well.

  • don't forget dave douglas! although he's not much of a bopper hehe

  • This piece is like every Jazz trumpet players dream.... one day guys haha until then keep practicing!

  • clifford would have loved this! Randy and Byron make it look so easy, they hardly look like they are working.

  • Dude, Arturo kept stepping on Randy's toes. Not cool.

  • Are you talking about the part of the song where they were trading off?? If so it was chuck findley steppin on Randy's toes. It was Arturo,Randy,Chuck then Byron in that order

  • I wish my fingers and my brain could work that fast together :(

  • This is just simply too GOOD.

  • Unbelievable...

  • Neither stole the show for me, because they were all just insanely good. I got to see Arturo play in person back in 2000 or 2001 I think it was. A few years later I got to Byron come do a master class for my high school. The man has a huge and lovely sound. The other two i haven't got to see play in person, but they are very nice as well.

  • I think trying to compare the four is a fool's errand. I think you have four mostly unique styles and they all shine in this set. It all depends on which flavor your prefer, for me Findley stole the show.

  • Lul, are you guys joking? Byron was immaculate.

  • WOW

  • Inspiring stuff guys- out of this world.

All different approaches - all stupendous

    and the ka-ka...ings were unspeakable

  • wow all of them are just insane but arturo... just fenomenal!! 5 stars!!

  • yep Arturo rules ! Brecker sounded anemic compared to him

  • Be-bop: Arturo's are technical, and Brecker's are lyrical.

  • Chucks solo is killer. Hes an incredible soloist and lead trumpet player. Damn.

  • man all of them are incredible but man Arturo Sandoval the best ...............

  • That was f 'ing INSANE!!!

It blew off my socks AND my armature.

  • Just love it bloody good !!!!!

  • all about Chuck Findley.. obviously the most killer solo ... Byrons got the tones to make me poop myself too.. Brecker chills in the background and Arturo just wants high school trumpet players to have posters of him and shit..

great tune and solo by cliffy B

  • @steeezmasta So true about arturo. Byrons got a phat ass tone.

  • ma come hanno fatto ad unirvi a tutti e quattro???????????

  • Ese día quedaron los calzones llenos de palominos

  • Wasn Gewichse!!! Lustig.....die 4 haben geübt

  • Arturo is the best that easy and that simple

  • i just love when Arturo comes out of no where at 4:01 amazing!

  • Unbelievable finish

  • Playing trumpet like this should be illegal.

    Wow.

  • @AkiraMusic yep... my dog was boppin' around the floor on Arturo's higher notes...

  • @AkiraMusic it is in cuba

  • Do your long tones every day...gotta start somewhere!

  • And Arturo can play the hell out of piano as well.

  • Chuck and Byron! wow, yeah!

  • I never get tired of listening to Arturo reach the stratosphere with his trumpet. Phenomenal line-up.

  • ma da dove le pigliate tutte quelle note?????????

  • ÁÁÁ.Eladom a trombitámat inkább.

  • hehe en megveszem:)

  • Great performance.

    Felice Reggio

  • Brecker is the overall best player here. Smooth tone, hip licks and doesn't take the high note bait. Funny cause Sandoval is only one here who can actually play high solidly.

  • You're an idiot.

  • Que ¡enfermos! de la trompeta los 4

  • entendi nada.

obs.: gostei do som do negão

    todo preto é bom

  • wow. speechless. amazing!!!!!!!!

  • I swear it must be computer animated and the sound laid in with computer. It's not human!

    Dang, they're good!

  • Wow, Striipling sure has a different tone than the other three!

  • Definately

  • I think his mic wasn't working at this performance.

  • May have been that weird device on his mouthpiece receiver.

  • i know right... but to tell you the truth, i like his tone the best of the 4... its so rich

  • he sounds like a sax. now arturos, now thats a rich, full, brassy buzz tone

  • who sounds like a sax??? no one there sounds like a sax... as for a full rich sound, i don't think thats arturo's... i think its byrons

  • The drummer is Dave Weckl. One of the best drummers in this world. Ckeck this name on you tybe and you see the best drumsolo's ever!

    Greetings from Holland!

  • I love Findley in this clip.

  • Arturo plays with Monette Prana B2 mouthpiece

  • c'est Magnifique

  • I like how Randy Brecker doesn't take the high note / wiggle-your-fingers-on-a-high-note bait. Keepin' it real.

  • part of that is cuz findley and stripling didn't do the "wiggle-your-fingers-on-a-high-note" until after randy soloed. probably cuz they knew he would show them up on his next chorus right? ; )

  • Great performance...I used to have a record with Red Rodney & Sam Noto, they used Clifford's solo on Daahoud for the head of their arrangement of that song, and in harmony like these cats did Clifford's Cherokee. Another great trumpet version of these changes is Donald Byrd's "The Injuns"..it's slower but he plays his runs beautifully and doesn't resort to upper octave pyrotechnics. It's a beautiful solo.

  • Hrm, Sandoval is using a monette mouthpiece, which one?

  • Oh God.

    SICK! Loveeee this.

  • BRAVISSIMI, UNICI

  • You must be old like I am -- Charlie Parker's KOKO was in '48 or '49

  • no, im only 21. just a jazz nut

  • incrível!!!!sem comentários...hehe isso é fim do metodo!!!!

  • thats sick man =O

  • Who's solo is the head taken from?

  • Comment removed

  • Clifford Brown (October 30, 1930 June 26, 1956), Brownies solo's were very unique and this particular solo was perfectly chosen for the head.

As arturo describes Clifford's soloing (I Remember Clifford Album notes) "Mind Boggling" couldn't agree more. So complex and yet so melodic.

  • charlie parker did a version of this song too, called it "koko" its really worth checking out if you have never heard it before. its a lot like this with no real melody just him improvising over the changes.

  • omg

  • Amazing! this guys really nailed it! ...and Dave Weckl on drums...

  • He had the nicest melody in his solo, Just had Big Band written all over it. 2:32 to 2:41 my favourite part of all of those solos, im not saying arturo isnt the most craziest and neatest technique, but Chuck had the nicest melody there.

  • Sem duvida nenhuma ele é e sempre será o melhor trompetista do universo.
