also women back then didn't have rights, so if she was raped and not married, she would have died. it was a practical law to dissuade people from rape
Ok so I was doing research, and found a person who said "The man is to pay her father 50 shekels of silver AND take her as his wife. In that culture, he had to take her as his wife because she had no other way to survive. It does nto condone rape. Rather this verse accepts the fact that rape happens and provides a provision for raped woman. If you read the verses before that, it addresses rape of a betrothed woman. The man must die. She has done nothing worthy of any punishment at all."
@comradeshow It doesn't really matter if it's in the old testament or not, the fact that a God would make a girl and her rapist marry is sick and not moral at all.
"If a man finds a girl who is a virgin, who is not engaged, and seizes her and lies with her and they are discovered,
29then the man who lay with her shall give to the girl's father fifty shekels of silver, and she shall become his wife because he has violated her; he cannot divorce her all his days."
@allanpopa Now isn't that the logical way to respond. You clearly demonstrate the ability to have a rational conversation. I noticed you did not try to rebuttal anything I said, just simple character assassination. I suppose you also are under the impression that if you are the one who yells loudest; you must be correct. Therefore I can only conclude that you, yourself believe that Hollywood always tells the truth.
@bluesboy25000 Yep, the BNP exist, but most of their agenda is not religious. In general, religion is a much lower key issue in politics in the UK than it is in the USA. Kinda ironic given the secular nature of the States vs C of E based Britain.
@bluesboy25000 We don't, it's just that Britain is so multi-cultural now that if any politician were to lean of their faith too much they'd lose votes. Plus there is a growing apathy towards religion. There are still plenty of practising Christians, and I suppose the latest census will highlight that a lot of people refer to themselves as 'christian' without especially being pious. Describing yourself as 'atheist' is I'm sure a step quite a lot of people have trouble with, even if they are
at the end of this i stood up and clapped.

the Bible disagrees with all sex out of marriage. God still loves gays.

If you knew allan as well as I most unfortunately do, you would never have responded. He's not worth your time.

@ronharveyII fuck you and your stupid Evangelicalism. Get a fucking clue. It absolutely pisses me off just how stupid American Christianity can be.

@allanpopa You are a sad strange little man, and you have my pity, if I gave you any thought at all.

@TheMbowling Why do I have your pity? Because I like to laugh at fundamentalist Christians and their very strange Christianity?

Who needs a Brit version of America's loony extreme-Christian right when we have our own
1 backbench hardcore-Labourites
2 LibDems
3 Galloway and his Respect Party
even
4 Archbishop Williams calling for adoption of Shariah Law
and
5 an heir to the throne who is equally cuckoo as evidence by his habit of sticking his foot in whenever he opens his mouth.

I think most of those are the opposite of "america's loony extreme christian right".

@tfn105 True. I personally believe it's ironic as here our Constitution forbids a State Religion. How do you guys keep that wall of separation?

This comment has received too many negative votes show
I still think the last line makes the president sound like a wannabe king, very detestable since Martin Sheen is Catholic and pro-life,
its a jab at Dr Laura but its also Jew bashing and hate speech and should not be tolerated;)
