I liked so much mr. Masaru"s performance that I contacted him to see if I could buy a CD from him.. he kindly reply that they were all sold out.. what a shame, I;ll keep on listening him and his Big Band on youtube...
Now that is done with musicality and tone with some technique- It is refreshing to hear it as it is intended and not overwhelmed by gymnastics and super techical 'stuff' so prevalent today.
Smoother than the thorns in a babies arm. Too many cats have gotten away from this style of playing a saxophone. Playing the melody sweet and pure. Very good interpretation of one of the most beautiful songs ever written.
Greetings...I'm just wondering if the Masaru Uchibori chart of Sentimental Mood is available to purchase for big band? I'd sure like to have my high school jazz band perform it...
the opening at :41 sounds so amazing on alto. this is really something what happened to most music nowadays why doesn't it have this kind of feeling anymore?
@cgragnt007 because not every composer is capable writing something so beautiful. I.e. not everybody is duke ellington. I agree its an excellent performance. I love it. This guys really understand this piece. Its inspiring. :)
The sax player, playing solo, is Jun Kondo.
I was also so much inspired by this performance.
I wanted to see him play and found his web page!
Now I can check his schedule and visit nice cozy clubs in Tokyo to listen to him when he joins big bands.
His solo is sooooo good and inspiring!!
I feel so lucky!

Great rendition of an Ellington Masterpiece.
Very Phil Woods-esk, wonder if he was one of his main influences.
To get that sort of sound out of an Alto Sax, you really have to be playing for a very long time, GEE HE HAS SOME CHOPS!

Hey isn't Eric the phenom trumpet player?
Because I enjoy his tremolo artistry too
Is the tag correct?
leega8010 2 years ago
That's an awesome song. It would only be better if it was done w/o all that conducting...
U know how jazz is supposed to be played. W/ the drums keeping the tempo and not some crazy solo shit in a slow sorrowful song
But that's a real nice alto MELODY, i've only heard tenor versions.
bigwhitey08 2 years ago
Bass is supposed to keep tempo usually, but agreed.
zachindie 2 years ago
Bass usually keeps tempo in jazz, but yeah, they're pros, they could manage on their own!
JROB1989 2 years ago
Also, this is far from a sorrowful song; sentimental, meaning feelings of romance or nostalgia.

I dunno if i like the sound of the horns, or it might just be the recording...
On the other hand, the rhythm section sounds tight and the sax is simply heartmelting.
