@bhilaj, He has surpassed tabla playing. He is controlling the tonal mode of rhythm. Something very few people in the world have the ear to do. Truly one of the greatest musicians the world has ever seen.
Sorry guys but the only rhythm on here is coming from Sultan Khan the rest - (peshkar 0 is just messing around, unfortunately there's 7' "23 of it and its boring out of context from the whole performance, no offense to Zakir as he has nothing to prove on Tabla but this may be a concert in the west where he does tend to take the piss out of the audience ( most of no knowledge) which he would never do in India
@bhilaj - my friend!....the fact you even classify this as boring and only messing around, only shows that you seriously have no idea of what is truly going on here.
Now what Ustad Zakir is doing here has brought me immense joy from a technical, musical and expressive perspective.
Now look at other comments left by other viewers of this video that simply shows that many have also enjoyed this clip.
Anyway different people enjoy different types of music, maybe one day, you just may like this.
@NNezman My cyberfriend ! I'll tell you again Its boring , where i come from this is called freedom of speech and its that simple , you like it have for breakfast luch & dinner if you want. You cant sweepingly say i dont know whats going on believe me i do. I studied from his father & i know Zakir personally & he is welcome to tell me if i am playing something boring - However i did not say it wasn't musical - The other comments seem to enquire after Sultan Khan &Zakir is just warming his hands
If I lived in India and was a Hindu I would be a Guru but a Guru to fools. We would sit under a tree at mid-day and listen to music and feel how lucky we were to see the blue sky shining down upon us. The place to be is where you are. See it for all it is, how life wraps itself about you to tell you you are never alone even if you walk the most remote desert.
Well yes, it has elements of a religious faith. The fact that you worship this instrument with your heart, mind and soul.
Actually, the cornerstone of indian Classical music which is the guru-shishya parampara (teacher-student tradtition) was derived from Hindu philosophy of having a guru to guide you through every aspect of life.
Najnez is so right- the purity of the music of India and heavy souls like this are able to fly across all the countries borders and bring Joy and Peace to everyone. I have seen Zakir twice in concert- there is this almost visible spiritual aura around this man...his playing is simply other worldly! Also, bless Ustad Bismillah Khan- I miss his sweet shehnai so much....
It does not matter what faith you are from, but there is something def divine there. An element of spirituality that has given these individuals the abilty to bring so much 'pure' joy & happiness to so many souls....cont....That my brother is my opinion anyway, and I wont argue with you, as these artists would not be where they are also without the endless practice & dedication as well as knowing that there is also so much they can still learn.
Wah Wah....beautiful...tone and timing = superb...despite being the most comercial tabla player..let not people forget, that he truely is one of the greatest players ever. Checking my playlist of tabla will show you many tabla masters.. And Zakir definetly deserves to be at the higher scale of them..Peace and may Alaah bless you Ustad Zakir.
of course he's one of the best. Your right, but before him there were so many maestros, probably alot that were even not known by others. But it is great to see people appreciating ths art in this day and age.
The reason why masters like Ustad Zakir are masters is due to the spiritual mentality they have, that is brought about by their faith. This subject is way beyond your comprehension, so in future do not comment on religion in this manner, as individuals like myself may get offended.
Lets not get carried away. The 'faith' you mention is not exactly a religious faith. It is the traditional faith in indian classical music. the tradition encompasses many aspects e.g rewaz (practise), faith( respect) and most importantly always learning.
himu90, I totally agree with what u are saying, but there is an element of spirituality there no doubt for many Ustads and Pandits to do what they can do.
There are many individuals who carry out all the things that you say, but unfortunatly only a handful are possessed with God given abilty and talent.
SOme people were born great, some people achieve greatness, and some people just have greatness thrust upon them. Zakir Hussain had all three of these phenomena happen to him.
@himu90 that is the true religion...the ibaadat of or devotion to the divine...that takes both the musician & the audience to the realm of the experience of pure bliss or "nirmal anand"
if u listen very closley, youll notice from 00.47 and on, sultan khan ji plays a low sur then h goes to a high sur, thn he goes back to the same low sur and plays a high sur, he repeats a few times.
