  • Would have been better without the background music, but powerful nonetheless.

  • That man was awesome

  • RIP JACK BUCK !!!

  • Summer nights are just not the same without the voice of Mr. Buck.

  • @FlushChicagoNow Couldent agree more. It just doesn't feel like cardinals baseball without him.

  • Ten years after 9/11, Jack's poem still resonates strongly not only amongst Cardinal Nation, but across the country. As a lifelong Cardinals fan, Jack is the voice of the Cardinals. He is one of the many reasons why St. Louis is one of the most respected baseball cities in the US.

  • What's up with the 3 dislikes.....gotta be cubs fans.

  • Mr Buck was a great man. One of the very few people god will be asking for an autograph!

  • We still love you very much Mr. Buck and we miss you everyday.

  • 2 people are terrorists

  • for some reason i watched this video at around 3 am on may 2nd...that night it all made sense

  • Great poem by a great man and broadcaster

  • RIP Jack, you will always be in my heart, you are the best sports announcer and one of the best man that has ever lived. I'm only 14 and I still remember this speech :)

  • this was uploaded on my birthday :D

  • Im from st.louis and Jack Buck is still the man...This is a masterpiece........

  • @DipLip21 I'm from St. Louis too, you can't be from here and not have the utmost respect, love, and admiration for the great Jack Buck, he is simply Legendary. I am not at all ashamed to say that I shed a tear when that man died.

  • @DubStackG Dam right man...Every time i cards play im i know jack is there and is being good old jack

  • How on Earth could there even be a dislike button this video!?!

USA forever and Jack Buck forever

  • thank you mr. buck. you were one of the all time greats. rest in peace... what a shame that your son didn't get one ounce of your talent...

  • God bless.

  • Jack Buck has set the standard for all future broadcasters to follow. So far no one has come close.

Rack "Since this nation was founded under God."

    RIP Jack, very moving poem.

  • i still remember watching this as it aired live on tv. i cant believe its been 10 years

  • Jack Buck died because God needed someone to announce the Baseball games in heaven.

  • @BerkeleyBuilt ur a piece of shit come to st.louis and say that mr.computer tough guy

  • I am a Yankee fan, but that gave me the chills. Such inspiring words from such a fine man. RIP Jack Buck. Wish your son didn't suck at announcing. You were one of the best. And, as you basically said, God Bless America!

  • That was a great day to be a Cards fan and an even better day to be an American. Jack Buck, you were the greatest.

  • I was only 5 years old when Jack Buck died, but I still cried for him, RIP, and "Go crazy".

  • pardon us while we stand and applause,"Go Crazy.

  • I am a Cubs fan, however I can say that this is one of those moments where everything else seems insignificant compared to what is going on elsewhere. Jack Buck was truly one of the games great voices, and greatest human beings.

  • bless you jack buck, we all miss you so much. you will ALWAYS be the voice of the cardinals.

  • I was in St. Louis when Jack read this poem and was lucky enough to be there for his memorial in Busch Stadium. Jack Buck was one of the best of all time and will be forever missed by all Cardinal fans.

  • Jack Buck--class and professionalism personified.

  • My family and I were fortunate enough to be at the game that night. The first game after 9/11. I wish Mr. Buck were alive today to read a follow up poem. Thanks for helping us through a terrible time Jack. You are missed.

  • boss111094 god bless you and good luck to you and i am sure i speak for everyone

  • MAY 1ST 2011

    MISSION ACCOMPLISHED JACK!

    MAY YOU REST IN PEACE!

  • jack, you were the greatest.r.i.p.

  • I was there that night. It was the first time since 9/11 that I was able to find some sort of peace. Jack Buck was so special and I believed he helped everyone who heard that poem that night to begin the process of going on with life.

  • i love you grandpa

  • "War is just not our nature?"

    Bullshit....humans are war

  • @Hellzyead Your an idiot

  • @masonridesbmx99 And you're in denial.

  • @Hellzyead sorry, my dad was on my youtube and wrote that.

  • War is our nature. We aren't helping other nations, we are demonstrating imperialism. He is a good speaker but i don't think this speech is as great as it's portrayed.

  • @flip103333 it's not a speech. It's poem he wrote from his heart. At the time, his words were true. Things may have changed, but remember, he wrote this in September of 2001 before we went to war.

  • @kebinstl we have been part of imperialism since WWII pretty much, so idk what you're saying. And how long have we been in Afghanistan for?

  • @flip103333 The war caused by 9/11 started 6 months after 9/11. That's the war I was talking about.

  • @kebinstl Either way i still feel the US is a very imperialistic nation.

  • Since this nation was founded under Zeus

  • R.I.P, and God Bless Jack Buck!!! JOE BUCK IS TERRIBLE THOUGH....

  • i grew up listening to jack buck starting in 1961 i was 10 yrs. old.. he was wonderful announcer and a kind human being.. he will be missed ..and never replaced..a Cardinal!

  • Jack Buck, greatest announcer in television history. Unfortunately his son Joe didn't do a good job calling historic moments in baseball and football. RIP Jack, announcing in Heaven must be a great feeling.

  • makes me cry god bless you mr buck and god bless the usa

  • god bless jack

  • what a great man

  • So much better than his son in every way

  • Proud Cardinals fan, yet even greater, proud American.

  • There are two sports moments I remember post 9/11... one was this speech as I watched live via TV, the second was Roy Williams of the Dallas Cowboys running out of the tunnel with a full size American Flag (I'm a HUGE Cowboys fan). Now that I look back extremely moving and AMAZING!

  • Absolute class. These famous broadcasters are so rare now that we have lost Jack Buck, Ernie Harwell, and Haray Kalas. RIP.

  • This was a tremendous, moving poem that Jack read.

The one thing that sticks out even more is considering this was one of the last, if not THE last, public appearance for Jack Buck.

  • May you rest in peace, sir. :)

  • Jack you were the best ever

  • @SmithieTS smithie.....your a dip-shit!

  • To secure peace is to prepare for war.

  • Ernie Harwell passed away today, and I couldnt help but think about Mr Buck. Those of us whom where lucky enough to grow up sometime this era are some of the luckiest people around.

RIP Jack, RIP Harry, RIP Ernie.

  • rest in peace jack. god bless you

  • God bless Jack Buck, you are a great american and always will be.

  • A great man for baseball and a great American.

  • Absolute class. Ernie Harwell and Jack Buck are on a different level than the rest.

  • Jack Buck is probably, no DEFINITELY, the greatest St. Louis citizen of all time. What a jewel, and what an example for our children.

  • That's a Winner!

    Great job, Jack.

  • I have a nice tinfoil hat for you.

I will NEVER have a chip in my body and I have NEVER got any vaccination in my life. I am Patriotic and I love my country. I fought in Afghanistan from the 1st day of invasion (Oct. 2001- Oct. 2005) and I wouldn't want it any other way.

  • @CrazyItalian992 your an American Hero my friend.

  • @CrazyItalian992 Amen to that and God bless you.

  • I've been a follower of the team to the north for many years and I truly believe the rivalry our teams share is one of the best in the game. But on this day, in this venue, Jack Buck did the Cardinals proud and spoke for a nation. Well done and RIP.

  • Mr. Buck, pardon us while we stand and applause

And to all of you that have turned this into a politcal forum, do it somewhere else. Doing this is insulting to a deceased hero and icon of the City of St. Louis. In the words of Jack Buck, "Go Crazy" somewhere else

    Go Cardinals

  • true that. cowardly foe indeed.

  • Jack was the best, one of a kind!

  • Goosebumps...

  • RIP MR BUCK!

  • Thanks Jack, Sorry about the nutty jack offs on this page.

  • And we're still in the "unwanted" war, y dont we just kill everyone over there and take all the oil, lol

  • I was at that game. RIP Jack. St. Louis and all of baseball misses you.

The US is not perfect. Bush was not perfect neither is Obama. But we are still the place people risk their lives to reach. we do NOT live in fear. That first game after 9-11 proved that. We were NOT afraid. I go out without fear. They have NOT won. Yes things have changes some for the better some for the worse. Like in everything time will tell.

Thank you to all our military and their families. We appreciate your gifts.

  • Terror has not won nor has our liberty has been sacrificed. Anytime we have been attacked from outside, we have responded with limiting certain freedoms--the internment of citizens during WWII and the "Red Scare". People have every right to be more cautious of what's happening around them if we're going to continue to be such an open country. At any rate, President Obama is headed in the right direction on overturning some of Bush's policies on terror camps and interrogation tactics.

  • No, we need more freedom after events like 9/11 to ensure the survival of essential liberty. Our liberty has been sacrificed for security. Where the hell have you been living? Your phone can be tapped without warrant for domestic reasons, forget terrorism. A passport is needed to re-enter the US from Canada or Mexico. Your backpack is searched and you're fingerprinted just to get into Disney World. We're not an open country. Oh and by the way, Reagan apologized in 1983 for the WWII internments.

  • what is essential liberty? only those enumerated in the Const.? what the Court says are our liberties? you lost some cred when you say Reagan cause that would be like the Founding Fathers apologizing for slavery...

  • No, you stated internment was to limit freedom. I clearly pointed out that Reagan admitted to it being wrong. Thats a fact. How does that loose cred? Benjamin Franklin stated best those who will give up essential liberty for safety deserve neither liberty nor safety. The Constitution is essential liberty!

  • Reagan's apology was far too late to have any substantive effect on those were interned. Would you like Bush to apologize to all those who are in terror camps now or after we find out they are not plotting against the US? California is Reagan's homestate. It was self-serving. Ben Franklin was thinking of the French rev. not what was actually put into practice at the time of the signing of the Const. Point is liberty withtheConst.and ourhistory as the base is what you are willing to fight for.

  • I may have misunderstood what you originally meant and vice versa with yourself trying to understand me. Anyway, we're both entitled to our opinion's. Take care my friend. Peace.

  • Can't you all wake up and understand that the truth about 9/11 has still not been told and all the security measures implemented since have done nothing but to help destroy our liberty. Terrorists don't just want death and destruction, they want to change things. We now live in fear as a country. Terror has clearly won. WAKE UP!!!

  • I worked that night and it was a good night to work in the Team Store and we was busy than ever since a week with out baseball.

  • amazing speech

  • for the last 2 comments my response is whether we were searched to get in the stadium or something of this being a load of crap the point of it is Jack was a centerpiece of STL sports for many years and he wasnt even a player, his speech was for us to get back to normality the best we can after the disaster which occured and baseball restarting was a step in the right direction every1 in this area respected him so the fact it was Jack there gave a comforting feeling no1 else cud have pulled off

  • The US hasn't returned back to normality. We live in fear as a nation and the fact that every stadium now has search points at every entrance is proof. If we returned to normality we would of told those that oppose us to kiss off and that we're not going to change one bit no matter how much they try and scare us. More and more cities are putting cameras on public roads/sidewalks/parks all in the name of safety and to prevent attacks. All of it is sold through fear. We have not returned. Wake up!

  • In reality we should have been doing that a long time ago. Not just because a terrorist could do something but anyone could have brought a gun in or so forth.

I do not know anyone who is afraid at the games (other than loosing to the cubies that would be horrible :p ) The cameras are not to protect from attacks but robberies from out own people.

I am sorry you feel so threatened.

  • Yeah i feel threatened by my own government and you and everyone else should too. Cameras don't prevent crime and are a waste of tax money. You're under the impression that if someone holds a gun to your head instantly someone sees it, the police arrive and everything is fine, however the second the gun is pointed it's fired. Yeah the camera caught it but your still dead and the gunman was wearing a ski-mask. Those who want security over liberty deserve neither. Wake up people!

  • LOL I do not live in fear. It is ashame you do. Camera are a deterant to some not all true. Metal dectors, or someone looking through backpacks is a simple messure. Yes someone WILL get something through. If you do not like any of these things you should stay in your home. I do not see cameras in banks as a threat or anywhere else to my liberty. If I don't want to be taped going into walmart I will not go.

I wonder where you live to be so afraid and angry.

  • I made it very clear when talking about cameras i specifically meant cameras that surveil public places like city streets, sidewalks, parks, bridges, etc. These are police state measures. Don't give me a bunch of crap that as long as you're doing nothing wrong you have nothing to worry about. If that is your mindset then you've already cowered to the tyrant government. I'm sure than any of you folks wouldn't mind a camera in your bedroom so the government can watch you have sex with your spouse.

  • Obviously, you did nt make that clear. Gee you are awful angry. Are you angry with obama or bush?? Or is it the entire US government. I bet that if your loved one was raped and one of those cameras caught the animal that did it you would not be bitching about them. Would you say NO do not use that evidance because it is a police state measure? I bet not.

I am done with this as I do not want to disrespect the thread. I appologize to the owner for letting it get this far.

  • First off that's a demagogic argument and i wouldn't be surprised if things like that have been staged to scare the public into accepting such measures. When you get tasered by some cop on a power trip because you simply questioned why they pulled you over while driving then you'll see the light .Hell yes i'm angry at the two party dictatorship called the Democrats and Republicans. We need to destroy these two parties that are destroying our country. Peace out!

  • "Don't give me a bunch of crap that as long as you're doing nothing wrong you have nothing to worry about."

Certainly that is not true for everyone. But generally, nothing bad is going to happen to you if you stay out of trouble. Freak killings and accidents happen, but people getting murdered are usually caught up in something bad themselves.

  • do you live your daily life in fear? Neither do I. Preventative measures taken by the government or in massively public places are not a bad idea or some sign of weakness.

  • Oh yeah and you're probably one of those retards who think the government was behind 9/11.

Ciccone, you wake up, you fear mongering bastard. People like you just LOVE to make people fear for their lives.

  • How does a pat down at a sporting event hurt you? It doesn't. It will only effect you if you're carrying a gun or bomb into the stadium. Despite what you think, people aren't sheep. Just because there isn't mass objection to searches at a sporting event (which are done by STADIUM PERSONNEL NOT THE GOVERNMENT, IT IS THE CHOICE OF THE RESPECTIVE LEAGUES) doesn't mean people are ripe to have all their civil liberties violated. YOu aren't the only smart person in the world.

  • The government is not making these sports have these check points. They DID in the first two years after 9/11 but they DO NOT anymore. It is at the discretion of the leagues to do this! They hire outside companies to come in.

You paranoia towards the US government is misplaced, they are not enforcing these checkpoints at sporting events!

  • the moment at 2:06 is just awesome, seeing all those people standing with the infamous busch stadium arches, rip mr. buck

  • i get chills every time i hear that speech...and whenever i hear highlights of jack's calls

  • R.I.P Jack Buck: THE GREATEST ANNOUNCER TO EVER LIVE AND WILL ALWAYS BE! WE ALL MISS YOU!!!!!

  • Very Great Speech After 9/11 We needed to return to Baseball

  • Jack Buck will always be a part of the fabric of St. Louis. His words that night enshrined him in the hearts of many Americans nationwide during one of the most difficult times in American history. God Speed Jack and so long for just awhile!

  • Jack Buck is, quite simply, the greatest play-by-play man who ever lived. This was a classic. Fitting for the last major thing he'd do before he'd leave us.

I'm an Astros fan and while we have a rivalry with the Cardinals (I do respect their franchise), I can't possibly say anything bad about Mr. Buck. Maybe it was all those years before I moved to Houston where I'd lay at night by my radio in Oklahoma as Jack brought baseball to life. But my opinion is he's the greatest who ever lived.

  • Hard to believe he was only 77 when he died, he looks much older

  • God bless Jack Buck and those we lost on 9/11

  • i will miss JB ...some are timeless

  • I remember being at this game. I still miss you, Jack.

  • My family was there also. Jack will forever be missed. St. louis loved this man and he made st. louis baseball what it is today.

We have the best fans in baseball because this man helped to teach us what it meant to be a fan.

  • Jack Buck...his simple calls of historic moments are classic...unmatched by any other announcer in baseball history...and we'll see you tomorrow night...

  • RIP Mr. Buck. I remember your calls of the World Series......and this is another memory I will never forget after 9/11.

  • Thanks for the memories of sportscasting, for being in my home on the weekends broadcasting games from local affiliates, CBS, fox, others. You have brought the future into my sons life as a human of beauty......I thank you!!!!!!

  • Jack, we will always miss you :(

  • Jack the legend, we miss you

  • he had Parkinson's IIRC

  • I know this is an 8 month old comment.. But he did indeed have parkinson's, as well as battle lung cancer, which is why he looked so "yellow" in person. They kind of fixed it up a bit for television, which is good, he should be remembered by looking healthy.

  • what was wrong with him? he looks real sick here. :-(

  • i always tell my friends that this one of the best speeches ever...

  • With all due respect to the way New York welcomed back baseball from 9/11, this situation truly didn't recieve the attention and credit it deserved simply because it didn't take place on the East coast.

  • this is better than piazzas post 911 homer

  • I want to hear Pelozi, Clinton or Obama speak like thia instead of all the crap about how bad we are and how awful this country is.

  • This is amazing. God bless him... He will be missed

  • wow, that just gave me goosebumps, wow, jack buck rip

  • The best live experience of my life...I'll never forget it.

  • I cannot believe that there are not anymore hits on this!! I was I Lubbock, Texas when this happened and phoned my Dad to tell him to change the channel to see it. I am so glad that we live here and that I can now play it for him via recording from this site.

As baseball fans and Americans, Thank you Jack Buck and THANK YOU to all that have protected my freedom to be a teacher, a baseball fan, a football fan, a basketball fan and, SIMPLY AN AMERICAN!!!! WE HAVE IT SO GOOD!!!!!!!!!!!

  • jack buck = legend

  • my whole body shivered watching that

  • my whole body shivered watching that

  • Jack was truly one of the best, he is missed. (And this from a Cubs fan). To bad his son is such a putz

  • Kind of breathtaking...not much else you can say about it. Thanks Jack.

  • I was lucky enough to meet this man when I was about 10 years old and even then as a 10 year old I thought what a class act. I listened to him on KMOX for years and i felt like i knew even then. Class all the way R.I.P

  • I remember watching this on TV. Jack was a great man.

  • Jack was a class act, he is missed.

  • Great video.. I would have loved to see the conclusion of his speech where he talked about baseball starting again. "I don't know about you, but as for me, the question has already been answered: Should we be here? Yes!"

  • Good God did you hear how quiet it was during the fireworks...it was like a huge 21 gun salute...9-11 haunts me everyday of my life to a certain degree even though the passage of time has eased the pain a little...you can never replace guys like Jack Buck an American Original!!!

  • poor old jack buck its sad

  • I forgot how I felt about this video until I just saw it again. Once again tears came to my eyes!! ABSOLUTELY FANTATIC AND BEAUTIFUL!!!!!!! THANK YOU IMMENSLY FOR ADDING THIS!!!!!!!!

  • God bless jack buck,

    may he rest in peace.

  • I was lucky enought to be at this game and it was incredible. The way the city of St Louis marched all the brave service men and women around the field was amazing. Jack Buck was a great anouncer and an even greater american. God Bless Jack Buck

    God Bless America and

God Bless the St Louis Cardinals

  • This is simply incredible, truly an amazing poem. Sadly Jack Buck would be gone less then a year later, and this is a fitting final moment for this man.

  • Jack Buck unlike his stuck up son Joe was a down to earth man. Old School Broadcasters like Jack Buck are missed.

  • god bless america

  • Amen Mikey...

  • God Bless the late great Jack Buck..

    &

    God Bless the USA

  • i miss that old park :(
