It's extremely difficult for the company to police the entire course, and thus is left up to the spectators to take responsibility. In total, it was unfortunate. As an offroader, and club president, we understand there are risks involved, and my safety is MY responsibility. I'm sorry for your loss.

You come to one of these races you know the risk and standing this close is common but not wise. no reason to cancel future races, or change a damn thing, its worked fine for years accidents happen and the people with the lowest amount of brain cells usually lose.

you don't stand right next to a straight line where vehicles go full throttle. you stand inside of a turn curve where you can be close to the cars yet still there is very little chance of such an accident due to limitations of momentum and centrifugal forces.

It was just a matter of time, I've been watching these types for races for years and never seen it as this bad. Now I could see something is going to be done for future races....
Anytime there is loss of life it is unfourtunate and sad. This is no different. You guys have to be more sensetive. These people were important to someone.

These races have been going on for decades in the California and Baja deserts. And It's not unusual to see groups of drunk spectators, either playfully pushing a buddy onto the track or daring each other to touch a vehicle as it races by.
And I'm tired of hearing negative comments from Europeans about how stupid Americans are for having such a sport - I've seen my share of rally races, and the levels of alcohol and stupidity are just as high.

most of you are right what the hell, get back from the track i have been going to the desert races for 40 yrs and have seen what can happen, i have race dirt bikes for over 10 yrs in the desert and have broken my back doing so because some dumb ass wanted to cross the track at the wrong time and i hit him he was ok and to { tigeron 1a } it wouldn't ever be my son or daughter they know better then that and would stay back from the track ,

Its their fault for standing very close to a high speed vehicle, but its also not their fault because the idiots who organized this event didn't look at the fact that fences could actually save peoples lives.

@flubberdubber If you watched the WHOLE news article, the race spanned up to 50 miles, and took 7 hours to complete in the middle of the desert. Fencing was not realistic.
The issue here is that people were standing in the middle of a race track... knowingly.

I am not hating or being a troll, but you have to be responsible for your own safety. This is crazy and senseless deaths. I do feel for their families, but I sure hope they have not died in vain or without some amount of lesson to be learned. People need to be accountable and so do the sponsors etc. This was completely preventable on all levels. RIP race lovers, I hope this is a lesson learned by all.

These races have been going on for decades in the California and Baja deserts. And It's not unusual to see groups of drunk spectators, either playfully pushing a buddy onto the track or daring each other to touch a vehicle as it races by.
And I'm tired of hearing negative comments from Europeans about how stupid Americans are for having such a sport - I've seen my share of rally races, and the levels of alcohol and stupidity are just as high.

this happened not too far from the start finish line...alot of drunk dumbasses hang out in the pit area right there....this is not the drivers fault, nor MDR's fault...thanks to these assholes who like to try to touch the trucks and buggies as they go by, we might not have off road racing in california anymore.....thank you for making me waste my time and effort for over 10 years building a truck that i'll never get to race!!
