Its amazing how many people on this make constant references to "taking it in the ass" and such. Clearly some of you want to or you wouldn't keep talking about it...
WELL DONE TRENT. YOU FOUND THAT FINE BALANCE BETWEEN SHOWING OFF YOUR TECHNICAL SKILLS, AND BLASTING PEOPLES EAR DRUMS WITH ELECTRONIC SOUNDS. in other words, keep up the good work, your music should be played in universities as an example of electronic music that is accessible to everyone.
I'm sorry for all of you who say that "Inception" should have won best score at the oscars.... But there are many scores like Inception's. The score from The Social Network gave the movie a lot more tension! It put the whole movie together!
Inception and Tron had a got soundtrack, by famous artists. But these soundtracks would have been succesful anyway, with any movie. This soundtrack is perfectly fitting to the social network, that's why it won.
A melody needs both...sorry that I don't see it here. I have listened to this more than once. I don't think it's as bad but it's just still too much noises if you know what I mean. I'd rather like more tones instead of it, but well...if you love classical music since you are a child it's very hard to respect something like this as music... just thought Inception wouldn't have a chance to loose because it's the first Hans Zimmer that has something special in it.
I still fail to understand how this beat the soundtracks for "Inception" and "How to Train Your Dragon". Sure, the music is original but it definitely lacks the defining melody and emotion that the others surely convey.
What have romantic period influences to do with anything I have said???? You would like to hear this years after years? Do you think after you heard this a hundred times you would still detect something new developing in it? I don't think so, but real good music gives you something new everytime you hear it and makes you wiser. Not only this is music to the world we live in. Our world isn't just noisy and distracting and infecting. Music should always present many sides of life.
Well, yes it fitted in the movie and that's part of the purpose. But music must always have a chance to stand for itself and nothing else, just for music, and if you listen to this without watching the film, you can't find anything genius or extraordinary. There are too many noises in it. Where is harmony and melody and musicality? Does this 'music' fulfill its purpose to be music? I don't think so.
@23stinki it was the Oscars...you do realize that's a film award right? Besides, if we went with every soundtrack with Romantic period influences...the world would be a sad place. I actually think that this music can stand for itself because it is meant to be affecting, notice the titles that have barely anything to do with the movie "Hand Covers Bruise" "The Gentle Hum of Anxiety" it's music to the world we currently live in. It's noisy, distracting, and infecting. That's perfect. That's art.
Is a melody required to evoke an emotional response or convey tone?
That's what a soundtrack is for. Its not just music for its own sake. Also, how do know you wouldn't detect something new after a hundred listens. Have you listened to it more than once? Or had you already decided after a minute.
I mean that respectfully. You are entitled to your opinion and I can see where you're coming from, but I love this soundtrack and many people agree with me, including the oscar judges.
Seriously guys do u not undestand how perfect this soundtrack was for the film it shows the youth of tody and how technology driven we are. and i think a full orchestra would have been very predictable and wouldent have had the same effect. This score brought out the arrogance of zuckerburg and and the anger of saverin it really worked fantastic i got to say hats off to Reznor and Ross!!
@JoriKorpershoek oh and I think that you don't have to say us (Inception Fans) what we should like, especially because this is no good music. This (Social Network) is a music without emotions I can't feel the music... more or less it's annoying! Hans should win an oscar for his music he constantly(!) does very very good music it's time for an oscar !!!
i honestly don't know who will win the oscar. From looking at past oscars, Desplat's score is perfect. but all of the other scores fit their respective movies soooo well, that you listen to each one and you say "WOW this needs to win!!!" then you listen to another and say "NEVERMIND this one needs to win!!" then go back to the first and say "fuck... this one needs to win.... well now i'm confused!!!!"
but if past oscars have told us anything it's that Desplat will win
@TitusPulloJr this IS fresh and unique sounding. So are you saying that this is better than anything John Williams has written? Of course not.
Just because other composers use traditional instrumentation/orchestration to score movies doesn't mean they're not unique. Every composer has their own sound and inception/How to train your dragon were incredibly unique/complex/emotional scores.
This has it's niche, but just because it's different doesn't mean it's genius. That's my opinion though
@patchapman2 I agree, but I kind of feel that it's not a terribly bad thing, I mean, Zimmer's got enough awards and recognition, it's time for someone else to be recognized.
@patchapman2 Zimmer did what he always does and always does well, make a nice and epic score with lots of violins and some awesome themes. But it always sounds similar. Gladiator, Pirates, Inception, its all very much the same.
This sounds new and refreshing, something an Inception fan should like.
@sparkydeltorro alright let me be clear. This is an interesting/unique sound for a soundtrack. It worked in the film and is certainly different than what a normal movie score sounds like. BUT that doesn't mean it's oscar worthy. people are forgetting what music is. This is still music, but it's minimalistic loops and synth soundscapes. It doesn't deserve to be put in the same category as say the "How to train your dragon score". Its interesting but not complex/emotional enough for an oscar imo
How do you figure it doesn't deserve to put in the same category? Because there's no orchestra?
I agree that being different doesn't automatically make it good, but you can't turn around and then DISMISS it because its different either. You said yourself that it worked in the film - isn't that the point? The soundtrack's purpose?
This doesn't mean the other films didn't all have amazing soundtracks- but, don't just bash this because the soundtracks you prefer didn't win.
@sparkydeltorro Like always, can't give a logical criticism on youtube without people saying you're a troll/flamer/"basher"...*sigh*
I am none of those things.
This is still good and unique. And maybe you're right in that the music should only be judged by how it worked in the film. I guess I'm just so used to listening to scores independent of the movie that I place too much emphasis on it.
But IN MY OPINION I think a score should be a little more complex compositionally to deserve an oscar
@sparkydeltorro What an effect the word fag has. Clearly you're a little sensitive. But listen dumbass, its just expression you know, an insult reacts to your subjective conscience in a way others dont. Its a feeling that confronts and overcomes you, and you can't escape it. Pretentious twat.
@pkearne I find the words "I hope your mother gets cunt cancer!" are much more effective. Shur, don't give people abuse if you can't take it. Problem solved!
@sparkydeltorro My thanks for the feedback on my insults. However im not seeing how you think i “cant take it”. But i suppose i don’t have as much practice as you. You can certainly take it im sure. No doubt you take it hard in the ass every Friday night. My point remains that you’re original comment could not make you look like a bigger fag.
@turtledogs7766 It's the scene where Divya sees that Mark made Facebook and runs to tell the Winklevii. "Mark Zuckerberg stole our website. It's been live for almost 36 hours."
