When the axe is locked in the log after your first strik, turn it around and hit again with the log on top of the axe. This way you don't waste time loosing the axe from the log and you could strike several times. You save a lot of time and it's faster than the machine. Old trick from my grandfather who worked as a axeman for 50 years.

I used to work in the woods myself in Oregon, we used Husky's I LOVE EM, my opinion the best!! I have used STIHL as well and they are supper as well, I STIHL prefer my Husky. By the way, they make GREAT motocross bikes as well. (i was younger theN). LOL

I have firewood in my backyard and don't even have a fireplace in my house. I have a firepit in my backyard. I made a grate to put over it to cook on. Natural gas and electricity are not a 100% thing in a survival situation.
