there must be hours of unused fotage and deleted scenes. this movie seems to have just about every scene cut down, there seems to be missing dialoge, they jump from one place to another so quickly
Thanks for the montage music from "Picnic." That incidental music composed by Morris Stoloff was used in TV shows and other movies as well. Listen to the chase scene later on in the movie. And the second track on the LP has fragments of Stoloff's music for the movie "Full of Life." There was a law suit that was settled about using the combined themes of Picnic and Moonglow together.
Fosse hoje... Misericórdia!
I first heard Billy Vaughn's version of the theme song back in early seventies and never for forget about its haunting tune. I finally saw this movie on TV in the early eighties and realize that the song fits the movie so well. The slow dance scene is most memorable.
I saw this for the first time in about 80' and never forgot the dance between Bill and Kim. It stayed with me, and makes me feel kind of meloncholy when I see it now, cause he died and now that scene is pure art now. Pure Americana.
In the dance scene, Novak and Holden slowly move together, obviously to kiss, the HE turns his head. But they literally look into each others souls after that.
In my opinion, Holden was America, shy but when forced to strong. That is why he was perfect in The Wild Bunch and Kwai.
@PRE1959 talk about erotic! would put the porn films of today to shame! Erotic, erotic erotic!!!! The electricity between Novak and Holden is palpable!
Bill Holden was certainly teh sex symbol this age - what a gorgeous, fit looking man! I've read about him, his problems with alcolism - but all the films I've seen him in you wouldn't have known-what a professional. So sad the way he died on his own.
I know Kim Novak was supposed to be the prettier of the two sisters in this film, and she WAS gorgeous, but check out Susan Strasberg at 2:47 of this clip. She sure as heck ain't chopped liver ;-)
@sierracuban Yeah, I agree with you. Susan is a better looking woman, Kim looks a touch tarted up and much older than her 19 years. Susan looked beautiful without the more mature makeup job and had more delicate features.
This film had something for everyone; loved the music the sunset the anger the injustice the friendships ,the family ,the emptyness every ones' been to a picnic they just don't alway want to remember
Great music and pix montage! Cheers!

I agree......My babe in this movie is Susan Strasberg.......( Little Millie Owens ).....That kid was
gorgeous even here at age 17.....( Born 1938 )
I admit that I got a crush on her with this movie,
since the first time I saw it in the late 1960's....
God bless her, she passed away in 1999 at age 60 after a long battle with breast cancer.....

"Picnic" aired on TCM on January 11, 2009.
I recorded this movie on my TiVo.
This is an all time classic from Columbia Pictures! The first time I saw this film was
during the summer of 1987!
