@maddocpowaq I agree, but Steinberg The Grand tends to introduce phase problems when using them in production. Although there are a lot of tricks to counteract these problems.
finally i've found a video with this kind of keyboard where i can hear the velocity sensitivity too... I'm considering to buy the mkII. hope i won't be disappointed :)
@bati192 I haven't used sheet music to play this. I had a MIDI-file of of it and since I'm a technician, I worked out how to play to just look at the piano roll menu.
Maybe your local library has got some sheet music.
That was AMAZING. The first cover I have found that actually a) sounded good, and b) brough something new to the song, and moved me. Keep it up brother!
i'm also going to buy the novation midi keyboard. and i wanted to ask you what you think about this keyboard. is it good? is it bad? thanks very much!
If you need good key responsiveness and many midi-control options in Cubase, Ableton, etc, i'd say this is the way to go! If you don't need so much information on your LCD-screen, you might want to go for the sl MkII of this keyboard. Instead of the extra LCD screen, they added numerous LED rings en buttons, but is also more expensive.
now i have another question. is there a button that turns off the key responsiveness? you know, you push one key and it plays on the full level (or 127 Velocity if you want to say it like this).
3 months later, and I still can't find a better rendition on You Tube than this one; could you film yourself from above as you play it so all your fans can see what you're playing..?!
No, I used a sustain pedal on this one. This is no keyboard, nor a synthesizer. It's a midi-controller. With synthesizers, you can edit the sound on the intrument itself. With keyboards, you can't.
Sorry, I misunderstood. Well, I learned to play it by looking at the MIDI-notes in Cubase. If you don't have a sequencer that can show notes or edit menu's, you have to refer to sheet music at your local library I guess.
How can you compare a Roland synthesizer with a Novation controller? A controller is obviously designed to control VSTi's. The Roland (in comparison) has its own soundsbanks.
If you want easy control over all your VST's and Host program via Automap Universal. And if you want a good instrument that feels like a real one by the touch of the keys. Only then, buy one of these.
what music program do you use ?

It's on google video. I can't post the link, youtube won't let me to.
Type "Novation ReMOTE SL Tutorial". It's about 44 minutes long. Probably the only video about the Mark 1 controller.
Enjoy!
maddocpowaq 2 years ago
Sorry, didn't make myself clear - it was And Dream of Sheep I was on about! I like your rendition. Yeah, the keyboard sounds great, tho.

That hasn't got the Kate Bush music on it!! Does anyone know where I can find a video showing how to play it..? Thanks.

Thanks for the info Madd. I've got the music, I'm just not very good at reading it!
jaquesaulait 2 years ago
That's really sounds nice. I don't suppose you could post a video filmed looking over the keyboard, could you..? Alstublieft?
jaquesaulait 2 years ago
Look at the tutorial video's from Novation. They released the SL mark II, but only the original has two large LCD-screens. Which is a big plus, IMO.
maddocpowaq 2 years ago
Thanks, Madd, but I can find it neither on YT or the Novation site. Am I not looking hard enough!? jack.

I use Alesis M1Active, but the audio wasn't captured with a microphone. I recorded de perfomance through MIDI and exported it to audio. ;)

Yah, that piano sound is super nice, must look into Edirol

I must note that I used a compressor to give the sound more fullness. You might also want to check Steinberg The Grand, for real concert pianos!

very nicely played :)
I just ordered the 61SL to use with Logic,
definitely one of the nicest feeling keyboards I've played,
the weighting of the keys is just right,
I also considered the Axiom 61 from M-Audio but to be honest it felt like a toy compared to the Novation

nice, youd recommend the 61 sl then? thinking of getting one
