I have never picked up a snake, and I know these people don't believe that this "will lead them on the road to salvation" They do it because the Bible say to do it. This video is a bit misleading. These people don't worship snakes. To them snake-handling is an act of faith because the Bible says that Christians will "take up serpents." They only pick up a serpent if they believe the Holy Spirit leads them to. The original snake handling church was called the Church of God With Signs Following, which broke off of the main Church of God denomination, which is Pentecostal. In addition to snake handling activities their worship style is typical of Pentecostal churches with the dancing and music, speaking in tongues, etc.

the bible is not saying to run out and grab the first serpent you see or gulp down a glass of hemlock! Many people take this verse (Mark 16:18) out of context with some very deadly results. This video has inspired me to go and find a good snake worship and test my faith. I have been needing a faith check-up for some time but have been putting it off. I would like to find a small church and not a big fancy one where everbody is trying to outdo the next person by having a larger snake.

This is a misrepresentation of these churches. I for one was raised in Holiness churches and we NEVER worshiped any serpents. Serpent handling wasn't the only practice. They also laid hands on the sick. I feel really sad that SOME people who go to these churches feel you must take up serpents in order to make it into heaven. Until now I have never heard that. I always believed it was a gift from the Lord and a person only done it if they prayed enough and the Lord gave them the gift to do so.

@robinsam100 I think that the Homecoming you are referring to is the one in Jolo, WV. If so, then yes, it is going to be Labor Day weekend. Last year they held services Fri and Sat evenings with one on Sunday morning (lunch following the service). The most heavily attended service was Sat night, and that will probably be true this year. Many brought serpents and victory was given over them in Jesus name. Hope you can make it. -Peace
Although venomous, copperheads are rarely fatal and they're generally not very aggressive. Eastern rattlers are more so, but it's likely in this situation, the snakes are so confused by the rapid movement, they don;t know what to do and are also less energetic because of the cold. the important thing about christianity, or christ's ministry for that mater, was that he gave mankind hope, that they could become like him through his atoneing sacrifice in the garden of gethsemane and on the cross, and finally through his resurection. The apostles recorded seeing him in a perfect resurected body, and so if the bible is true, we to will be resurected and live forever after the millenium where christ will rule on earth. no other faith promises such hope, nor do their doctrines.

I have never picked up a snake, and I know these people don't believe that this "will lead them on the road to salvation" They do it because the Bible say to do it. I know that there will be thousands of people in Heaven that never even thought of picking up one of them, But I just wish I had what some of them has! It is just an act of obedience, Don't knock it if you have not tried it. I went there and met these people and they are the nicest people you will ever meet.

This video is a bit misleading. These people don't worship snakes. To them snake-handling is an act of faith because the Bible says that Christians will "take up serpents." They only pick up a serpent if they believe the Holy Spirit leads them to. They believe that God will protect them from the snakebites and that snake-handling and the drinking of poison are "signs following" Christians, as described in the last chapter of Mark. I don't support this, but at least get straight what they believe

The original snake handling church was called the Church of God With Signs Following, which broke off of the main Church of God denomination, which is Pentecostal. In addition to snake handling activities their worship style is typical of Pentecostal churches with the dancing and music, speaking in tongues, etc.

The person commentating has less sense than the ones handling the snakes. There is no such thing as "poisonous venom" or a "poisonous snake" and I would hardly call a copperhead "deadly." Timber and eastern diamondback rattle snakes are a different story. Also the people are not "worshiping" the snakes. They are worshiping God through handling the snakes. I don't understand the tradition but if you make a video you should probably get the basics right.

the bible is not saying to run out and grab the first serpent you see or gulp down a glass of hemlock! Many people take this verse (Mark 16:18) out of context with some very deadly results. In Georgia for example, there are many that dance around with serpents because of this verse. The Bible states very plainly "...Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God." [Matthew 4:7]

If they are wrong, they are not hurting anybody but themselves. I have been in their services and I wish I had what they have. Why should anyone speak against them? They have not tried to get anyone to handle snakes. If you want to they will caution you to make sure you are right with GOD, and they will let you know that if your not right with GOD you will die, or at least suffer, cause the snakes will bite you!

This is a misrepresentation of these churches. I for one was raised in Holiness churches and we NEVER worshiped any serpents. Serpent handling wasn't the only practice. They also laid hands on the sick. I feel really sad that SOME people who go to these churches feel you must take up serpents in order to make it into heaven. Until now I have never heard that. I always believed it was a gift from the Lord and a person only done it if they prayed enough and the Lord gave them the gift to do so.

@robinsam100 I think that the Homecoming you are referring to is the one in Jolo, WV. If so, then yes, it is going to be Labor Day weekend. Last year they held services Fri and Sat evenings with one on Sunday morning (lunch following the service). The most heavily attended service was Sat night, and that will probably be true this year. Although venomous, copperheads are rarely fatal and they're generally not very aggressive. Eastern rattlers are more so, but it's likely in this situation, the snakes are so confused by the rapid movement, they don;t know what to do and are also less energetic because of the cold. (hence, they only are killed once in a while)
These guys should put their money where their mouths are. Put down that little copperhead and go get yourself a black mamba!

These people actually believe in salvation as the rest of the Churchs of Christ do. "Born Again". They get the scripture from the book of Mark I believe, at the end. It is hyphoned, not contained in earlier manuscripts. These are the weak in faith, they seek signs and miracles all the time, or they quickly become bored.
However, its thier faith, so we should not be to critical of them.

Notice they talk about the verse which states if you drink any deadly thing, it won't hurt you? Well, a snake may or may not bite. But religious nuts won't drink anything deadly to prove their point? I'm not a snake handler, but I would suspect the folks handling the snakes would probably appreciate them not being labeled snake worshipers - they are not worshiping snakes - they are worshiping God and using the snakes to demonstrate either their faith or their annointment by the holy spirit.

the important thing about christianity, or christ's ministry for that mater, was that he gave mankind hope, that they could become like him through his atoneing sacrifice in the garden of gethsemane and on the cross, and finally through his resurection. The apostles recorded seeing him in a perfect resurected body, and so if the bible is true, we to will be resurected and live forever after the millenium where christ will rule on earth. no other faith promises such hope, nor do their doctrines.
