  • The absolute gold standard for this concerto.

  • Violin Concert nº1 in G Minor

1º mov. - Vorspiel: Allegro moderato

    2º mov. - Adagio

3º mov. - Finale: Allegro energico

    Jascha Heifetz - violin

Sir Malcolm Sargent (conductor), New Symphony Orchestra of London

    recorded: May, 14 and 16, 1962

  • A truly great work in calssical music, a phenomenal. When I hear this from radio, I always think that must be Beethoven, this much great!!! For some reason, I can see Beethhoven's emotions.

  • hmm.. A very wonderful interpretation but a bit too fast for my tastes.... but Sarah Chang and Menuhin do this piece more justice...

  • Invincible!!!!!

  • Rhythm was especially important to Heifetz. One can hear that in his performances. It is ok to prefer others in this work. However, if one looks at the big picture, his performance could be considered definitive. Bruch concerto is not the greatest concerto ever written, but wonderful. H plays it wonderfully. If one is now looking for great depth in this music, perhaps in Menuhin you can find it. That recording is inspirational, and gets under your skin in a way that "wonderful" will not.

  • I far preferred Sarah Changs version of this movement when I saw her play live last week,

To me Heifetz plays it a bit too too fast and removes much of the passion and soul from this movement. Even in his own time he was often regarded as unemotional and cold in his interpretation of much of the music he played.

  • You know so many consider Heifitz's technique, which is phenomenal. But everybody seems to miss commenting on his tone -- an extremely warn tone even through the highest positions of the violin. It wasn't until the young Anne-Sophie Mutter that tone was equaled.

  • Slow down dude! :(

  • This is probably why Heifetz has been acknowledged as the world's foremost violin virtuoso, to the extent that his name and the term "virtuoso" are often used interchangeably.

  • i do admit that his interpretation is fast, but i feel like he didn't even grasp the sense of this romantic piece and to really relish the moment.

  • @bdaniel2008 exactly what i mean :)

  • @bdaniel2008

I agree, he didn't make me feel anything

I like rabin's version better, although rabin is off at the beginning

  • @hi123456789011

Yes also the same to me, it did not do anything at all for me at all !!

  • @bdaniel2008 Heifetz probably just wanted to play it this way in this recording, and enjoyed the way it sounded. You thick smug fucks

  • @bdaniel2008

Heifetz just 'plays' this music but is unable to express the feelings and emotions of this movement as some other top Violiniists do in a far better way than him.

  • I'm used to listen to a less faster performance by Vengerov so i don't really like this 3rd movement :\ too fast, you know

  • I do enjoy! Magnificent!!!!

  • AUGH!!!! OMW>.....I Love him:)

He is so incredible can't wait to start this, this summer:) LW

  • sometimes slightly out of tune, but amazing...take a look at the gitlis version.

  • it's so fast!

  • Better than that we are the world crap.

  • Love this. Thank you for sharing

  • Dogpaw814, I guess you are right... It just depends on practice!

  • How long will it take for me to play this piece?Ijust played lalo symphonie espagnole after 3 years of playing. I love this concerto, so please answer

  • @lezare2012 ahhah it doesnt matter...and lalo is great u should practice enuff so u can play it =] i just won edith knox with this series =]

  • I realy like this version, and of course it's heifetz playing. the faster pace works cuz you just feel so much energy and his playing is so crisp

  • This is the speed at which my violin tutor tried to get me to play this piece. When I was 13. That's when I knew she and I weren't seeing eye-to-eye on my amateur abilities. :)

  • @onestarintheair: Yes there are. The double stops are not perfectly in tune. To deny that would be ignorant. After all, Heifetz is just a person and those aren't easy double stops to play. Nonetheless the fact that they are slightly out of tune doesn't affect the overall immaculate performance in my eyes. God you can't even dare criticize Heifetz without getting flamed.

  • I like the Itzhak Perlman interpretation better.

  • Best rendition of Bruch ever. Best violinist ever.

  • is it me or are some of the double stops sharp near the beggining?

  • no they aren't

  • It's just you.

  • @onestarintheair i thinks its just you..0.o

  • Very accurate doublestops. Extremely nice.

  • This has to be amongst the greatest of all classical recordings. But credit must also go to the conductor, Sir Malcolm Sargent, who's control and timing are, like that of Heifetz, almost without equal. What a collaboration... !

  • @plentyvocco I agree 100% the greatest recording I have certainly heard of this piece.

  • a miracle!

    a phenomenon!

    great music :)

    @o@

  • Jesus. Mu orc. does not play in this speed. This is like 136. ROFL It's incredible!! BRAVO

  • no one surpasses heifetz. i revere him.

  • Peerless!!!

  • Panharmonicon. Isn't it simply the best? In over 30 years I have never heard better.

  • yea

  • wow...absolutely stunning!!!

  • Thank you again! Love this 3rd movement!

  • do you want me to post the 2nd movement too?

  • yes - please post it.

  • Would be nice to know about the orchestra without having to look it up =)

  • @musicdevotee4life
