  • Great song

  • Why not just enjoy the music as it was intended to be enjoyed.

They have brought a beautiful song to a new generation.

The song is fantastic no matter who sings it.

  • Love Calexico!

  • alll comparisons from dudes here are totally irrelevant !!!!! mins set talks ........

" and this version is ...." and that version is better .... " and so on so ........

enjoy music !!!!!!!!!!!!! music is LOVE , and nothing else ! Calexico plays for love and

for the music sake of sharing ...the rest is non sense !

  • This is a great version......im pretty sure Bryan would have approved...man it swings!....the original vocals were beautiful....but they were studio stuff....this is just as good as they will get

    Jim

  • love the Spanish guitar, fantastic version!

  • Not bad. Talented musicians, but their vocals sound too boyish and average and lacking in the soul and passion that "Love" had. It's like trying to copy a Picasso.

  • if you don t copy you ll get nowhere... you have to do that until you ll get your own style, although i don t think that calexico copy arthur lee or need to imitate the style of anyone or anything they became what they should be! it s a good cover nevertheless and don t forget that many many people didn t know the song and heard it first time from calexico...

  • Alone again is an anthem

  • Noone said copying was wrong. The line about copying had to do with the fact that Picasso was a genius as was Arthur Lee. To copy a masterpiece is not easy so you have to do it in your own style. My point was that the vocals were average, plain, so so etc. Instrumentally , the band is quit good. Get the early Love albums and see for yourself.

  • that s apparently his style it s not that he tried to copy lee and didn t make it and the song was just a bad copy i hope you agree with me on this!!!! well yes the vocals could have been better but i think that s all that he can do :) anyway i m just not that into lee s voice or performance of the song so i prefer calexico that s my taste and there s no point saying it s bad good or anything

    -subjective judgement hahaha :)

  • i know, let him off though he is a foriegner.

  • good cover

  • I'm pretty sure the trumpet guy played at charlies bar in lanzarote his name is marcel lmao

  • i think its good fuck u all who say its not haha!!!

  • Calexico play London's Forum 11th October with Bodies Of Water and Get Well Soon.

  • eh this is a great version but they are really doing the Damned version with some nice changes. they horns still don't have it right at the end of the chorus. good stuff tho. original version by Love is also great.

  • Arthur Lee was the writer...But the DAMNED do the BEST version of this song!! No doubt about it!!! RIP Arthur......You left us a JEWEL of a song with Alone again or...

  • First off, I'm an Arthur Lee and Love fanatic. Have been since their first album came out when I was a kid, and I'm sorry to break it to you, but Arthur didn't write this, fellow Love original, the late Bryan MacLean wrote it. Lee ended up singing it on Forever Changes, but it's Bryan's song. I have a most enjoyable solo acoustic recording of him singing it.

  • post it!

  • Bryan MacLean wrote the song. The Damned's version is good as well as the rock band UFO. THe original Love version is the best..

  • A Magnificent song and performance

  • Now, I don't think this is a butchering of the original. It's a beautiful, timeless song. No one could butcher it. Well, maybe Britney, Hilary or the Jonas Brothers... It's definitely not my favorite of the versions, but it's still a beautiful song. I have to agree w/Orgo. It does sound like a "the Heights" version. Good Call!

  • Christ, ORGO. Get a Life.

    They're a genre-ational!

  • I have frequently remembered the "The Black Light" album by Calexico in 10 long years and I guess it will frequently pop in to my head at least 10 more. I will especially remember the song "Missing" as one of the most soulful and breathtaking songs I ever heard.

  • you are talking bullshit!

  • you're talking tits. and the tits are falling out of your stupid arse like wet farts. it's a good cover of a good song, neither deserves a superlative and calexico are doing pretty well, still.

  • Sure thing, jock. That's why they are in the game for around 16 years. Check out 'crystal frontier' (non album) or hot rail. You can't cast one curse over that seriously.

  • saw calexico blow wilco off the stage at stubbs ,austin, a few years ago

  • Really?? The blew away Wilco? Just listening to them murder this song makes me sad. I don't think I could listen to anything else, this sucks so much!

  • i would love to hear your version of this song. i bet it doesn't suck at all.

  • no seriously, this is a butchery of the Love song. Fucking horrible.

  • this is such a pretty song... The Damned also does an amazing cover of it.

  • I'm guessing Arthur Lee isn't the overreacting type. Just a hunch. Solid cover. Calexico is the bomb.

  • BRA

  • Everything was good except the lead singers voice wow, especially during the chorus, I can't believe all the praise I'm hearing. Arther Lee must be rolling in his grave. You guys make me sick!!!

  • i just watched a live version of Arthur Lee covering this song, wait he wrote it, funny because the way he played it, it seemed as if he was covering it. Anyway, i'm sure Calexico are bigger fans of Mr. Lee than you are and they have the courage to pay homage to someone they admire even though they are probably aware that people will judge them unfairly but they do not care because they do it out of love.

  • Mustload. Johnny Hallyday Mon Fils. Live. Superclip.

  • Que gran versión del tema de los Love! El Forever Changes es un disco muy grande, y la versión de Arthur Lee es insuperable.

    Nice cover

  • so handsome!!!

  • BRAVO!!!!!!!!!

  • wonderful cover, heartfelt and spiritual

  • Saw them last year doing this in Glasgow, and while it may not be the original, it still sent shivers down my spine

  • Alone Again Or is on my short list of the greatest pop songs ever.

That said, I approve of this live cover...

    :)

  • All i can say that i love this band. They came to Croatia twice a i enjoy both times...bye,bye

  • I'd never have discovered Love if it wasn't for Calexico. I guess they've gone a good job :)

  • good cover, but nothing like the original

  • Comment removed

  • No, Mexicali is.

  • This song came out when I was 14 yrs. old by LOVE on the album 'Forever Changes' and it did indeed forever change the way I listened to music. Calexico has done a beautiful cover that pays homage to an incredible song and amazing band.

  • what a great song

  • such a great cover.. love the recorded version.

  • I think Arthur Lee would approve!!!

  • I agree with Nwasen. I liked Calexico, but when they released that EP covering this AND Francoiz Breut's "Si Tu Disais" (If you say,) two of the greatest songs ever crafted, I was truly impressed. If a cover leads you to discover the original band, so much the better.

  • nwasen -- like me, I'dve never heard of Love if not for this cover. Fortunate for me I guess!

Thanks for posting this, I love Calexico.

  • I agree that no one can do it better than Arthur Lee (RIP). I was very fortunate to see him sing this live a couple of years ago at the Beachland Ballroom in Cleveland and he ruled.

BUT nice to see this band do a cover. Covers keep the public who may have never heard of Love or Arthur Lee out there and may turn a few people onto a great artist who never really got the time in the spotlight that he should have. And I would love to hear Los Lobos do a cover also. Great ost there Gonzostew

  • calexico's version of this song is absolutely astounding.

  • Life goes on, love to see what Los Lobos could do with this song.

  • Our sympathies go out to the family and close friends of Arthur Lee at this awful time of his passing.

  • joey john and arthur

    think about the trio...

  • ew... It's definitely a hard song to cover because no one can get the feel of the original except Arthur Lee and Love. But at least they tried and it's much better than the Damned cover. Still not the best!

  • LOVE... the forgotten band... nice version.
