  • do the doors actually close?

  • Yes, they do.

  • Very impressive railway station... A+++ my friend...

  • is this lionel?

  • Do you use Windows Sound Recorder to record custom announcements like I do? :D

  • Yes, I do. Did you notice the bar code on the L front side of locomotives? I have 2 bar-code scanners that read the code as each train comes into Penn Station and the computer then plays the appropriate arrival and departure announcements.

  • is this like your adict or something because wow this set is awesome i would like to vist some time

  • LOL, not quite an addiction, but certainly is a BIG hobby. Drop me a note and come visit if you're going to be in the western NJ neighborhood

  • Now that is what i call a real train set. Whoever has this must be the luckiest person alive. I wanna meet the guy who has this set

  • LOL, thanks. Come visit!

  • @woodynj

Oh snap!!!!!! This is your train set?!!!! Amazing. If we meet, you and I will be the best of friends. I have a train set to. But only in H.O. scale. But i really want that lionel acela! You have got to be sooooo lucky to get the Acela. Lionel Acela and the Lionel southern pacific daylight are one on my favorite trains of all time

  • Thanks for the additional note. Actually, I have two of the Lionel Acelas. Was just thinking today that I should make a video featuring "Acelas Pass in the Night," a modern take-off on the classic 20th Century Limited painting. The SP Daylight is great, tho Lionel's SP steam engine is underpowered and disappointing. I prefer Lionel's Milwaukee Road Hiawatha (the [approx] 2004 version of the 1935 Atlantic locomotive. It looks great and is an excellent runner.

  • @woodynj

True, the steam lionel trains are slow. I just like the lionel daylights because they are the most beautiful steam trains ever existed. I remember the Milwaukee Road Hiawatha because I have a toy train book about that train. Wow! you have 2 Acelas?!

Amazing. I might have to get a super big room or garage to start my lionel set. Once I start mine, you can come buy and visit to.

  • Also Woody Back Bay, Boston...is probably a bigger used stop then south station ; )...only differnce is the train terminates at south station and not back bay

  • Right, thanks.

  • Aren't the actual stops for Acela to boston Stamford, New Haven, Providence, Route 128,Back Bay, and South Station? New london i believe is only on the 5am or the first acela to boston otherwise acela does not use that station...

  • Pretty close. It looks like only the first and last Acelas of the day stop at New London in the new Jan. 18 timetable. Thanks for your correction!

  • thanks but i didnt try that but you what was weird...the first class car made a spark and then the cars worked fine... it was so weird

  • what i mean is when you open and close the doors they worked fine and so did mine but now they wont so i thaught you would no how to reset the doors

  • I trust the Acela responds to other TMCC commands. If not, power everything down and restart. Double-check the (troublesome) couplers to make sure the infra-red signal is able to travel the length of the train. If any of the ditch lights is lit when the train is standing still and the doors are closed, it's an indication that the preceding car is improperly coupled. Squeeze the top and bottom of each coupler with your fingers to firm up the coupling. Lemme know what happens.

  • do you no how to reset the doors

  • I'm not sure what you mean by 'reset the doors.' Please expand your question.

  • I think he means "open and close the doors."

  • Not even the REAL THING is as good as that! Excellent train, video, layout, and everything else! :)

  • Thanks for the warm note. Helps make my day!

  • is that the lionel acela or the bachman

  • Lionel. Are you kidding?

  • The powered engine and the nonpowered car (at rear of train) are both 17.375 inches long. The passenger cars are 21.5 inches long.

  • how long are the engines both powered and none powered

  • Wow the features of the O scale Acela are incredible! My HO scale version couldn't hold a candle to these features!

  • nice video. i just bought an acela and the xtra car set. i'm waiting for it to arrive via ups!

  • Congrats! Lucky you!! I hope you enjoy it as much as my friends and I have enjoyed mine! Thanks for writing.

  • Thanks! I'll post a video when I get it set up.

  • It appears you had a few infrared tether alignment problems there :)

I had a few of those issues at a display in Connecticut a while back. Oddly enough, once the train settled down and quit uncoupling (it was running over swaybacked folding tables), it held together so well I had trouble separating the coaches at the end of the day.

  • Correct. I've also had plenty of uncoupling problems, which has been the biggest pain in the neck for me. The problems are mostly fixed now. Thanks for writing!

  • I love model trains. I never had lionel but I had ho scale. Lionel has the best features of all time. Lionel has all the good stuff. Its expensive but its worth it! Whoever has this train set, me and that person would be the best of friends!

  • the thing inbetween each and every train

  • the high track platforms? They're made from strips of foam insulation, trimmed to fit the space inbetween trains on adjacent tracks pretty tightly, then spraypainted black and fastened down with sheetrock drive screws.

  • sorry to ask so many questions

  • in the beginning how did u get the high land for people

  • I don't understand your q. Sorry.

  • cool layout one of the best on youtube

  • Thanks! Still working to expand it.

  • yes, it's O-gauge. My stuff is mostly Lionel. You can purchase a fairly inexpensive starter set. The Acela requires wide-radius curves (at least O-72, compared with Lionel Fastrack, which is O-36). The Acela is also rather pricey, if you can find it. Thanks for writing!

  • i looked this up on the internet is it called like o guage or something cuz im reallllly new to this stuff i dont have anything yet but i wanna order that and i wanna make sure i get the right one. thx!

  • how much does an acela cost in o gauge i want one realy bad

  • The original 5-car train set would probably set you back around $1,400 or so. The 3-car add-on set might be another $300 or so. If you're starting from scratch, you'll need a layout with (minimum) O-72 wide-radius curves, transformer, TMCC electronic controls, etc. It's a super train set.

  • Check out my Amtrak Acela 1.0 video, too. Lots of "hits" on that.

  • is this ho or o

  • O gauge, Lionel. It's the only Acela model that has all the features.

  • what scale is it

  • Nice set! But 2158 skips New London

  • very nice!! Nice layout, I would love to have a huge layout like that! the acela's doors are nice too!

  • You have this massive model railroad in your house?

  • Yes, I do. 2,400 sq ft. Thanks for writing!
