I've always loved the movie but HATED the soundtrack. Until I heard THIS version. Wow was I happy when I found out Jerry Goldsmith did the original score! It's soooo much better.
I thought I liked the 80s electronic keyboard movie, until I saw the Goldsmith version and it was like having my IQ cranked from 80 to 160. It was magical. But if you have nostalgic memories of tripping to the electronic keyboarding score, you might be resistant...
That is so true. As a child I watched Legend and it was the US version (although I am English) and I have had an attatchment to the Tangerine Dream soundtrack with the movie ever since, it brings back such memories and I can't seem to relate Goldsmiths to the film, I'm sure it would be the other way around had I seen Goldsmiths version first. But in terms of nostalgia, Tangerime Dream just brings back a part of my childhoof
@Kie10McC as someone who grew up watching the jerry goldsmith version until bbc2 started randomly playing the US version of the film i can say u are right it is definatly the other way around lol
I just can't fathom why a Hollywood exec would dump a Jerry Goldsmith score. I appreciate that TD were a popular 80s band, but they were just not hollywood heavyweights like Jerry Goldsmith or John Williams. Replacing such musicians is like replacing Marlon Brando or Johnny Depp as your A-List leading man with Russell Brand or Ricky Gervais. It really makes no business sense.
@therealvaliantthor Because most people don't take the genre serious. On occasion movies like this are made, usually they are bad, sometimes they are good. LOTR was awesome. Dungeons and Dragons was crap. But I agree, not enough decent fantasy films are made anymore.
This one kind of reminds me of Goldsmith's work on "Star Trek: The Motion Picture", another film in which he integrates electronic synthesizers into his orchestra, resulting in a very dreamy sound, especially in the scenes depicting the cloud and (later) the spacecraft containing the machine-entity V'ger.
This is a very cool piece. It evokes many images; A fantasy world, a sci fi space trip, and to me personally it sounds like it would fit nicely with the soundtrack for EarthBound.
Absolutly magnificent. I really love Jery Goldsmith's work. He was one of the most genial composers. I don't understand why Ridley Scott changed this original soundtrack by soundtrack of Tangerine Dream because this is so fabolous. I am from Europe so I know version of the movie with this soundtrack and I really think that it is so much better...
It's because American film exec's wanted something that would "appeal" to American audiences. Sad but true. I'm an American, though I admit I like both OST's
This is one of those magical things that slipped through the cracks. It really is as if there are many worlds in one, and different people live in them, depending on the sophistication of their minds, and each is largely unaware the others exist, although those in higher realms are aware of the lower ones. Strange world.
This score is one of the best scores of any fantasy film! For me it ranks right up there with Howard Shore's Lord of the Rings and John Williams' Star Wars, Indiana Jones, and the three Harry Potters.
Ridley Scott's movies of the 80's were extremely underrated by the widespread audience, especially "Legend" and "Blade Runner". Mr Scott did display his full potential in those movies, but he cared too much for what people thought, and tried to adapt to their tastes... Unfortunately...
Thanks for uploading this. I never get bored listening to what i think is Mr. Goldsmiths most complex, probing and meticulous score hes yet written. A shame that the film was hacked to near death by the film makers that seem to have no confidence in their own work just garner a few more bucks and now all they got was a wreck instead of an absolute beauty.
Yeah this has to be one of my fav scores written by Goldsmith. Mysterious, beautiful and suspensful at the same time . . . I love it! "Main Title/ The Goblins" is one of my fav cues.
May be innocent, may be sweet... ain't half as nice as rotting meat.

The mexican R4 DVD had Goldsmith score, but recently they broadcasted Legend in TV and they used Tangerine Dream music. It,s kinda weird.

Much of this was used for the cut original version of the opening sequence.

@SamusDrake Scott himself has said he wanted a more "rock-n-roll" score, so there is your answer.

LOL. Then its a shame Stan Bush wasn't available! ^_^

Oh yeah. I'm from Europe so I was spared from dealing with two versions of the movie. Jerry Goldsmith's music is fabulous.

LaMissFa1ry, is cue 4 'Living River' still available. Doesn't seem to be working.
Thanks for posting this score. I had the original 1990's Silva Screen release and am grateful to hear the whole score again.

No problem.
Yes, living river seems to work fine for me ^^
And I'm not sure if it is, I think so.

Hi, LaMissFa1ry. Is this the Silva Screen re-release CD?

Very Nice to hear this. While I prefer the TD score, this is my favorite one from the Goldsmith score. Especially the first 2 min.
