I'm an adult with HFA, and never felt the need to have friends. I always feel suffocated by other people and never get any enjoyment from being around them. My bearded dragon is my best friend and all I need. Human interaction isn't worth it.
@misspinkpunkykat A lot of people don't understand that or how it develops. It's hard on us too. Do you deal with people in general? Like at work or anyplace else?
Oh my gosh I have autism, and sometimes it feels like my mom hates me for it. I am really high-functioning, but that doesn't mean I don't have my problems. Like I can't eat meat or gelatin, yeast, ketchup, all because they have animal products in them, and the mental images actually make me experience the sensory things, and I have a few other sensory problems. Yes, I am HIGH functioning, but that doesn't mean that I can just "get over it", thanks for reminding me, there are others like me.
you are a great man! and one thing I can tell you God can do anything forget about people who is cruel they do not know ! bro God loves you as you are forgive us all bunch of people who are so closed mind ! I will pray for you and your little boy by the way my son might be aspie and I am so proud mom he is the best a gift of God as you and your boy!
I have a hard time picking up social cues, but i'm getting better.I ask my mom if I hadn't gotten help, what could've happened to me,she said that i'd be the same way I am today, but i'd be a little worse off.
Well said and worth adding. None of these conditions are easy to work with or live with. We must forge forward though. Never give up. You are worth that, even if you don't always think so.
I really appreciate you sharing your story as I can see it was an emotional undertaking. Now that I have the Asperger diagnosis, I verbally use it when I get into awkward positions. I've even made cards to hand out if I begin to experience a melt-down. People are beginning to understand the word autism and some of the things that go with it like anxiety and melting down and social hardship. These cards are available online too.
Take heart, it is difficult and there are those of us who understand and have compassion. Despite our suffering, we are lucky to live in a time of advancing science offering us medications and therapies that help. It is really good you are doing this work, it takes drive, courage and strength.
Thank you for your response. Yes, treatment is far beyond what it used to be, I agree, now we just need to get better access to that treatment. It's coming, we just have to be diligent. Thanks again. :D
Very well said. You express yourself wonderfully here. I have also seen those "looks" from people when my granddaughter is enjoying herself running from me, or upset and having a meltdown. You do those faces well. :-) An honest video - hope it sheds some light for a few.
I can understand your fustration Dave. Society is a cruel place. Most of it comes from lack of understanding of the conditions of asburgers (i know i spelled it wrong) or any other forms of mental illness. I have felt similar fustrations though I don't have autism, but having Bipolar Disorder is hard for people to understand. Just like having autism along with Bipolar is even harder to understand with most people. Another excellent video dave.

@thewildeman2 Nope. I don't interact with people period. I don't work yet and am still in school, using a co respondance program I use at home.

It's a lot to learn. I relate it to learning a new language. It takes time and never will be 100% for us.
