They make the RETENTION closures on these knives like that because ALOT of us OLD Soldiers would carry them upside down.I carried my KaBar on my chest that way and another bayonet on my Web Gear (LBE) Load Bearing Equipment.........Scout Platoon Recon. Knives: For that up close & personal touch social work.
There aren't many mass produced daggers out there and from what I have seen, this is my favorite. This is possibly the best dagger in the world and I'm not joking.
@SERAsuncionMusiCA No such sheath from Cold Steel for this knife, but there are lots of aftermarket sheaths that might work or you could have one made to suit.
never 4get that the blade is the soul of the samuria and the weapon is an extension of ones self in harmony with mind and body a true master learns that no matter what hes still a student
IMHO that sharp pummel on the end of a hild, so called "secondary weapon" could be a problem with some knife grips. Knife with such a large blade does not need that.
You dont need, but its still preferable in some situations and by some people. Also there some grips where you put part of your palm on the butt. But true, thats better for smaller knives.
The Taipan is every bit as beautiful, sharp, well balanced and built as you stated & as adverised by Cold Steel. However, the leather sheath that comes with the Taipan (& with most other Cold Steel fixed blades) is crap; a low-grade grain leather that looks good only because of a nice exterior polish. The sheath's handel retention strap of my Taipan cracked & snaped off after 2 years although I never used the knife and carefully maintained the sheath with specific leather care products.
yep i love cold steel and robbie daltons knives also. you can buy a nice sheath fron cold steel .. like a secure-x hard plastic one . that knife rules nice
Even a master of Marshall Arts is wrong sometimes. In fact, there's no safety whatsoever when confronting someone, so the last of my problems is that double edge. Just make sure where you're leading them, and forget about those flashy statements...
Bukunthus may be some random guy on the tube but none the less he is correct, Whats martial arts going to do against a gun? or a punch to the back of the head? there is no safety when confronting someone.
There is no possible safety when exchanging thrusts with other guy, so it astonishes me to know that someone like Dan Inosanto did say that naive crap. Is it so important to have a 'safe side'? Don´t leave your home then. For me, give me that doublecutter and i'll take my chances the best way I will.
CS has their retail prices set high on their site. Dealers sell the same stuff for much cheaper. Just make sure to buy from someone that is legit and not dealing fakes.
It's a toss up between this and the Master Tanto from cold steel.

In what way? the handle is so long that a reverse grip you don't need to put your thumb over the butt of the knife.

It's meant as a non-lethal alternative in dangerous confrontations.

would this knife work good as a boot knife?
fuzzshitboy 3 years ago
This knife seems not to be good for work, outdoor or military use. Is this just a conversation piece and possible emergency defense?
marky2112 3 years ago
The Tai pan model is designed purley as a weapon and for no other use other than that. Perhaps you might be looking for a utility knife?
