During late hours students may be asked to show I.D. If they cannot produce it, they are asked to leave. I was sitting in a cubicle/desk sometime after 11PM when this happened, and this fruitcake refused to show ID when asked and then refused to leave when asked. No, they don't. When the taser is applied, the muscles contract and the person is incapacitated. As soon as the taser is off, recovery is almost instantaneous.

ok, so im taking LE classes at MSU-Mankato which is ranked among the top ten universities for Law Enforcement, the use of a tazer makes the person incapacitated therefore the student COULD NOT move and the police were using excessive force, UCLA police dept. just won an award for taser use in their community, obviously they shouldn't have won it after seeing this...this is the true definition of a PIG!

Whether or not he was resisting arrest, which is not clear, this is the essential point of anyone with sanity in this forum: The tazer was NOT necessary. How many times this must be reiterated to the "Fuck you liberal pussy!" crowd I don't know, but again, the taser was at no time needed to remove that guy from the building.

Thanks for your reply. I agree that tasering someone is better than shooting him or breaking his arm. In this case however, the bad guy was alone and not physically very strong while there were two or three officers. They also managed to handcuff him almost from the beginning. I don't think that from that point they had to break his arm to control him.

You made a good point yourself--these people know the risks involved with their jobs. It's not a nation wide tragedy if one is killed. It's a tragedy sure for those who are related to that individual or have close ties -- but hey, they died doing what they loved.

I too, was not there, so all I can truly go on are the reactions and responses of the students in the video. The general concensus seems to be that they felt that the action of the police was excessive and unwarranted.

Nah, I doubt the school administration had anything to do with this -- the cops acted on their own account. Nothing he was doing should have led to the use of a taser -- they are ONLY supposed to be using a taser when they're being attacked, or when someone is acting severely unruly -- and he was NOT.

Accourding to witnesses, the CPs were asking EVERYONE to see their ID, to make sure that they had the right to be there to. Which is what they are suppose to do, which keeps the students safer.

The cards were in this guys hands right up until he got tazered. The campus has an identification card, which should be supplied upon request from any campus authority. He declied said request, as well as a request to leave the campus. He waits until the real authorities show up and then he wants to make a scene, instead of just complying with thier requests. Once he was justifiably tazered, the cards were no longer in his hands, yet he continued to play games and act like an idiot.

he was not saying " I will leave" he was saying " I WON'T Leave". Also, the taser gun used was a weak one, designed to only affect the area tased. Which means he was greatly over reacting to the taser.
The tazer deployment was justified and the subject was not cooperating with officers. From the video the subject appears verbally combative and uncooperative. The tazer is meant to subdue a subject and officers can continue to use it until a subject is cooperative.The officers were called to the library to do their job. I think the guy got off easy. If you were INFORMED, you would know that the taser temporarily paralyzes the entire nervous system and muscles in the body, so as to prevent the perp from fighting and/or resisting the officers. Once tasered (only once!), the perp is usually cuffed and taken into custody. NOT REPEATEDLY tasered, and then asked to get up and stand on your feet, only to be tasered AGAIN when he doesn't "comply".. because he is UNABLE to.

I did answer that (see below). 1. to comply is to obey. 2. I'd resort to taser if the assailant does not comply. However, this was NOT the case here. If you were not there, you do not know. During late hours students may be asked to show I.D. If they cannot produce it, they are asked to leave. I was sitting in a cubicle/desk sometime after 11PM when this happened, and this fruitcake refused to show ID when asked and then refused to leave when asked. The guy was so stubborn until he cried like a little girl while tasered - hilarious.

No, they don't. When the taser is applied, the muscles contract and the person is incapacitated. As soon as the taser is off, recovery is almost instantaneous.

Thanks for your reply. I agree that tasering someone is better than shooting him or breaking his arm. In this case however, the bad guy was alone and not physically very strong while there were two or three officers. They also managed to handcuff him almost from the beginning. I don't think that from that point they had to break his arm to control him.

Nah, I doubt the school administration had anything to do with this -- the cops acted on their own account. Nothing he was doing should have led to the use of a taser -- they are ONLY supposed to be using a taser when they're being attacked, or when someone is acting severely unruly -- and he was NOT.
It's just plain and simple police brutality. It's not even about the kid's ethnicity. That should not be happening on school grounds unless it is DIRELY needed.

The cards were in this guys hands right up until he got tazered. The campus has an identification card, which should be supplied upon request from any campus authority. He declied said request, as well as a request to leave the campus. He waits until the real authorities show up and then he wants to make a scene, instead of just complying with thier requests. Once he was justifiably tazered, the cards were no longer in his hands, yet he continued to play games and act like an idiot.

he was not saying " I will leave" he was saying " I WON'T Leave". Also, the taser gun used was a weak one, designed to only affect the area tased. Which means he was greatly over reacting to the taser.

The tazer deployment was justified and the subject was not cooperating with officers. From the video the subject appears verbally combative and uncooperative. The tazer is meant to subdue a subject and officers can continue to use it until a subject is cooperative.The officers were called to the library to do their job. I think the guy got off easy. Do you think he would have prefered being tazered or hit with nightsticks? I bet he gets charged with resisting arrest and trespassing.

The fascists here think it is OK for the campus toy police to single out this student for an ID check because he is of Middle Eastern descent BUT AN AMERICAN CITIZEN and order him to leave the library. When he refuses to comply, they tase him. They do not simply handcuff him and drag him out, which they could have done. These officers do not have a legal leg to stand on. Can they make all of the U.S. a GITMO? Wake up people...Don't let the fascists win.

Of course he cant stand up right away. The cops were helping him stand up but hes the one screaming about the Patriot Act and other mumbo jumbo. If he stood up, went with the cops, and deal about the problem later on, then maybe the outcome would be different. Maybe the fact that he was infront of other UCLA students made it worst. Sucks to get arrested infront of people like that. Its just sad that they had to do it 5 times or more though. That part, i dont agree on.

stupid, but apparently the case a.t.m., so they taser him... he's just been hit with something meant to incapacitate him. You know what that means? It means it's meant to prevent him from moving... then they ask him to get up... and, when he doesn't comply, they incapacitate him some more... (oh and of course yell at him, because that proves they are right.) Wow, what a surprise... he doesn't get up...
