  • Thanks for your quick response. is this test something i can get done over at like Auto Zone or do i need to purchase an electrical tester? or is there a different way to test the connector?

    thank you.

  • @MsMlarrea I am not sure if AutoZone can do it or not. I think they only test components off the car and that is also limited. they do have a loaner tool program and maybe you can use a meter that way.

  • Hello,

I removed the PDFE sensor and shook it against palm of hand and it had a little bit of clear water, not slimy or dark. Not sure what to make out that. Do you think this is the reason of the P1401 error code? Also the sensor connector does not stay tightly. As always thanks for your quick responses.

  • @MsMlarrea Because of the extreme change in temperature between the exhaust and engine, it is not uncommon to get moisture in the DPFE. However, this moisture does a lot of harm. I would first make sure the you have a good connection and see if that takes care of the light. If it does not, turn the key to the "on" position and check the voltage on the signal wire from the DPFE if it is over 1.2 volts it is defective.

Let me know the results of the testing,

  • Hello,

I have a 2001 ford expedition 4.6 engine size. So far, I've changed the the EGR valve and the DPFE sensor. The codes went away for a week or two. I now have a new code P1401 DPFE Sensor Circuit High Voltage-02. Is it the actual culprit? or what is your advise. Thank you for your input..

  • @MsMlarrea 1. Inspect the connection of the Differential Pressure Feedback EGR (DPFE) sensor for good contact to the sensor.

    2. Check the Brown/White (BR/W) wire for 5.0 volts to the sensor when the Differential Pressure Feedback EGR (DPFE) sensor signal reading is high, and, that the Grey/Red (GY/R) wire is a good ground.

    go to next response

  • @MsMlarrea

    3. Check for a possible backpressure issue which may be damaging the sensor because of exhaust heat melting the sensor internally. To check this, connect a vacuum/pressure gauge to the DPFE sensor tube that connects to the sensors "HI" port. Monitor the reading while brake-torquing the engine. Backpressure should not exceed 2 PSI.

    4. If the DPFE sensor connector is ok and there is not excessive exhaust backpressure, replace the DPFE sensor.

    Let me know,

  • I changed the EGR valve and still getting same P0401 error code. Took it out and reinstalled it and still getting the same error code, along with a P1450 error code Inability of Evaporate Emission Control-Bleed Fuel Tank. Please help?

  • @MsMlarrea I will need the year, make model and engine size of your vehicle to help. Please include the codes again with your reply.

  • i wanna join the military,,cause they give u courses about how cars work,,lol

  • @weail I know a recruiter who wants your information! Thanks for the comment, I am happy you enjoyed the video as much as I had making it.

  • @markjhicks i'm not an American,,i'm from Saudi Arabia

my father is in the military though

and i want to join the air force but things ain't going well

    i'de die to get in a f-15

  • @weail LOL getting you an F15 ... Now that might be a challenge! Thanks

  • er is shit people should disable it

  • @rb26capri I believe you mean EGR. In the future please refrain from using foal language. I dont want our young to think this is the right way to communicate. But your question is a valid one and I am sure many think the same. When the EGR system was first designed and incorporated it did take away horse power and lessen fuel economy. In fact I had disabled the system on many vehicles myself. But you have to remember it began in 1972 that was 39 years ago.

  • @markjhicks Since then many advancements have been made and in fact disabling the EGR system on today's vehicles would be a mistake for several reasons. First it will set troubles code(s) and you will fail an emission test. But foremost the EGR system helps cool cylinder combustion temperatures to prevent NOx formation and by doing so it improves performance and fuel economy.

Thank you for watching and your comment,

  • @markjhicks yes egr i have disabled it on my 2003 landcruiser sahara .. and now it has very very low black smoke coming out, and the inlet temps on the manifold is cool not hot..the egr on the sahara EGR only works when its idling soo now when its idling it has cool air not black soot crap going back in the motor :)

  • @rb26capri Black soot or smoke coming out of the tailpipe only decreased when disconnecting the EGR because you stopped the recirculation process. The black smoke is cased by another reason. I would first check the Mass air Flow , Oxygen and coolant temp sensors. Air intake temperatures have very little if anything to do with combustion temps. I suggest listening to what i am telling, if you do not take care of this problem you will also ruin your catalytic converters. Also change your oil.

  • @markjhicks The black is because the engine is running rich. Fuel will get into the oil past the rings. I honestly have nothing to gain from this. I dont care who's parts you use but if you dont take care of this the right way it is going to end up costing you a lot of money. If you would like to talk about it, I would be happy to help you. • How do you clean an egr system?

  • @angelalynn82 I have attached a video that demonstrates how to clean the EGR ports on a 3.1 GM. The attachment is below the video area.

    Mark

  • @markjhicks I don't know if you can see the attachment or not, darn program they keep changing things for the worse, go to my channel the video is called GM P0401 EGR troubleshooting.

    Mark

  • Very simply put, complete and informative. Thank you!

  • i have check engine light p171 p174 p401 i put three new three oxygen sensor i had new egr valve it crack damn it

  • @youpaynow78

These trouble codes usually mean the engine is running very lean. Depending upon what kind of vehicle you have common failures can vary greatly. What is the year, make, model and engine size?

    Mark Hicks

  • running on less per km per liter if the EGR is cowardly

  • I think you are asking if fuel economy will drop if the EGR is not used. The answer is yes, not to a great amount but yes it will.

I hope this answers your question, if not let me know,

    Mark

  • by far the most informative/detailed video on the EGR..

confused on how exhaust gas cools the intake air..does it go through a cooling system not showed here?

any help would really help..thank you.

  • Thank you for the kind words.

By introducing small amounts of inert exhaust gas into the combustion chamber, the combustion flame front is slowed. Which reduces the adiabatic flame temperature without reducing combustion piston pressure. I hope this helps. If you need a more detailed explanation, please let me know.

    Mark

  • makes sense..thanks..

  • hey. i see he did not need a more detailed explanation, but i do, i am a engineering student and i would like to know how te system exactly works, i would also be happy with some links to sites with serious explanations, or simulations.

  • good question
