No offense but the M5 badge itself means nothing to me. The M5 is a incredible car. Awesome in every aspect. However my opinion of it being a bit pricey stays. How luxury cars for 50k is ok by me but honestly for 100+k I want something with a little more flare. Rather than just "the top of the 5 series car" . You definitly should drive what makes you feel good though and I wouldn't mind an M5..hell no haha. So if you have one enjoy it. I just expressed my opinion on the price.

I have had 10 BMWs in a row and I stopped buying them when this aweful ugly 5 series came out. I test drove the BMW5, the Audi A6 and the Mercedes E calss all in the one day. No contest...the BMW looked and felt terrible, the Audi was a superb package but the Merc had finesse and poise. I now drive the Merc E Class. I drive 30,000 miles a year and it has been faultless to 80,000. Superb car. Forget the beamer...they have lost it!

People are comparing the mercedes to the bmw because they are the best known luxury cars, who don't come second in thought to any luxury car enthusiast. Otherwise they aren't competitors, i would rather compare the lexus to the bmw maybe. Take it from a family who owns many mercedes and bmw.

And yes i do believe the bmw is better than the Mercedes, because it is a driver's car.

The current 7spd trans and above, ie lexus, are way too fragile to handle that power.  That is the reason that they don't use them. Merc AMG's still use the 5spds on the larger engines, i.e. the v12 biturbos
