  • for the record, Ben Gibbard is married to the lovely Zoey Deschannel. so he does well.

  • This song is brilliant

  • As a DCFC fan, I must say that this song is truly terrible.

  • @utstarcom007 why?

  • Wow, this has to be one of my favorite songs from Death Cab. Soo catchy.

  • Death Cab for Cutie is my greatest source of inspiration. <3

  • Man, I'm so glad they decided to release all these songs anyway. To this day, I'm still loving Narrow Stairs.

  • I have a question for all of you. What do you think of the one line "..who thinks that life with a nice girl is like waiting for a bus to work."

I just wanna hear others thoughts on this one :)

  • I guess what Ben might have meant is that buses never deviate from their given route and are usually not on time, but you don't ever expect much different from them.

In the same way, a life with a nice girl would possibly be simple and mundane. And he would always be waiting for the relationship to work his way. But then again, you wouldn't really expect much excitement from her.

The guy in the song is so self-centered to believe that every girl he goes out with must be wild and crazy.

  • I have to say that this is one of Death Cab for Cutie's best musically inventive songs. There are so many audible twist and turns in the melody, yet they fit so well with they lyrical content. Sheer creative bliss.

  • I wouldn't go so far as to say it is their most "inventive". I don't hear anything in this song that makes me think, "wow they did it again"..

  • I have a similar opinion but a bit different you see, all his relationships stay the same:

He's self-centered so "he waits for a bus to work", maybe this means that he just "stands still" in the relationship. Maybe he's the one who's not inventive. Plus, as the song is he's "used" to be a loyal lover this means that he often thinks the nice girl will always forgive and always be there at the same time, same spot no matter what he does, like a bus to work.

    What you guys think?

  • i think that he used to be the one that was the sucker in the realtionship he did what made the girl happy but then got taken advantage of and changed his ways... thats how i feel too im teh same

  • @madhattertophat so tru :) i hate dat type of guy lol but death cab makes an awesome song outta it

  • I think it's a clever metaphor to describe the impatience of the individual.

  • Transit buses often come very fast and many times throughout the day, so he thinks that life is nice when all you have to do is wait for one girl to come and when that ends another one is coming on the way.

  • I also caught that line, I thought it was rather depressing considering how true this is in todays society.

  • @Nuentendu thanks for explaining that.. im a devout fan and i always wondered what that meant. xx

  • i think the wording is a little confusing. he's not saying that he's waiting for the bus TO WORK, like he's fixing it. he's saying he's at the bus stop, waiting for a bus to work. ya know?

  • all my friends are forward thinking...

  • i like the beat and rythme, but i like death cab for their lighter feel. the distorted guitar isn't good with their sound imo

  • you are aware that thats what they used to sound like right? thus you aren't really liking the origins of death cab. Something about airplanes,we have the facts and photo album have so much more passion than the records that made them popular.

  • Differrent........................in a good way

  • This is cool.

  • "You can't even begin to know

How many times I've told myself 'I told you so'

And you can't even begin to believe

There's so many bridges engulfed in flames behind me"

.....Those lyrics just speak to me...its so true...I love deathcab; their songs have a ton of meaning (esp. company calls epilogue)

  • this is the best kind of infection

  • Best...

  • I love Death Cab's music no matter what they do, but they always have fantastic lyrics, they're awesome.

  • death cab never fails to come through with high quality music, and the open door ep is no different

  • But now each love's more like a match

A blinding spark that burns out fast

  • best track on the ep

  • i loooooooooooooove this song

    bengibbard<3

  • All my friends are forward-thinking

    Getting hitched and quitting drinking

And I can feel them pulling away

As I'm resigned to stay the same

this reminds me of 'long division'

    being a remainder

  • "All my friends are forward-thinking

    Getting hitched and quitting drinking

And I can feel them pulling away

As I'm resigned to stay the same"

    <3

  • yea im trying but f*ucking itunes doesnt work.

  • wft i love this song but cant anyone put it out with some good q??

  • The quality of the copies you can purchase is great.... if you "love" the song go buy a copy and support the band.

  • Ohamazing <3.

  • fav track on the open door ep f'n brilliant

  • very good song by Death Cab. It's different but similar. Brilliant stuff.

  • And you can't even begin to know

How many times I've told myself "I told you so"

  • Oh, I have learned so very little. When these bones are old and brittle.
