I always thought the two fights with Julian Jackson who was a harder puncher than both Benn and McClellan might have done the damage that led to the tragic end of this fight - his mouthpiece was out and he was blinking from the 2nd round so its difficult to blame benns rabbit punching when you put his previous fights into perspective.
That was one hell of a fight it just looked like it was going to be brutel before they even started fighting! I did think though that Benn throw a lot of rabbit punches at mcclellan. Such a sad ending though the ref was really poor. You can tell the few previous rounds when mcclellan was in trouble when he couldnt hold his gum shield in properly, i think Benn was never the same fighter after that fight. Pure warriors the pair of them HUGE respect!!

This was a great fight. McClellan drained himself from rapid weight loss which he almost always did but sadly the referee had no skill to officiate the fight. Why give Benn aple time and tell G-Man to get up right away after an intentional butt?

Some people have also correctly pointed out that Benn was given more than ten seconds to get back in the ring after getting punched out in the 1st, but I thought that was par for the course in those circumstances.
I don't wish to seem churlish given the ultimate unwanted result, but the referee gives McClellan 15 seconds before finally counting him out at the end.

Jim Watt prob regrets some of the comments he made about McClennan lacking heart. Reg Gutteridge was observant enough to spot McClennan was blinking a lot, had trouble breathing and was clearly in touble. We know that he had a blood clot forming on his brain. You normally don't slow decline from a blod clot your brain swells and the pressure causes the brain to die. Bleeding may have started later in the fight and the clot formed in the last rd.

This fight should have ended in the first round. McClellan had Benn dead to rights but the hometown referee interfered and kept breaking the action to give Benn breathing space. It ended in a tragedy that he may have been responsible for. Rigging fight sports should be a crime.

This was a great fight. McClellan drained himself from rapid weight loss which he almost always did but sadly the referee had no skill to officiate the fight. Why give Benn aple time and tell G-Man to get up right away after an intentional butt?

It means I don't think he's a "quitter and a coward." Obviously something was wrong with him, other than just taking hard shots. If anything, he should have "quit" sooner and maybe the damage wouldn't have been as severe.
Secondly, that was an awfully hard fought, competitive fight to say that either guy was "clearly outclassed and overmatched." If he was clearly outclassed and overmatched he would have been knocked out early, right?

Some people have also correctly pointed out that Benn was given more than ten seconds to get back in the ring after getting punched out in the 1st, but I thought that was par for the course in those circumstances.
I don't wish to seem churlish given the ultimate unwanted result, but the referee gives McClellan 15 seconds before finally counting him out at the end.

Jim Watt prob regrets some of the comments he made about McClennan lacking heart. Reg Gutteridge was observant enough to spot McClennan was blinking a lot, had trouble breathing and was clearly in touble. We know that he had a blood clot forming on his brain. In hindsight Watt got carried away. McClennan had heart, ask Nigel Benn. Very sad what happened, I often think why not have mobile CAT scanners in the corners? I know some will laugh but you could check fighters brains in between rounds.
