OOOOkaaay. Fair enough. But consider this. Dinosauars are no longer around, anywhere on this planet, due to narural processes.
Moose in Scotland were likely extirpated by man. They still exist in many northern regions and are doing well in most. One can only conclude that they are no longer in Scotland due to extirpation by man. Just like men have extirpated many other species around the globe.
I'm from Canada. Born in Pitlochry. There's no reason why the moose should not survive in northern Scotland. One only has to look at how well they have done in Newfoundland, Canada after being introduced to that island. They are now everywhere. If moose were a natural part of Scotland at one time then they SHOULD be re-introduced. Good luck with the project. Reintroduction of extripated species is always a controversial subject. Duncan Malcolm Michano
Its called Alladale, and it is about 1 and a half hours north of Inverness, close to a village called Bonar Bridge. And you're right, it is beautiful...and i used to live there :)
Why the hell did it cost "millions" to bring over two moose? I mean, you've got the cost of the fence to think about, and the "red tape" they refer to is probably due to the proposed integration of what is now a foreign species to Scotland. They'd want to know how they'd affect the current environment / landscape. But other than that?
We have moose here in Canada. They are fucking deeeee-licious. The Scottish obviously think so, since they ate all of theirs up 2,000 years ago!
Something involving ferrets, oversized swimming trunks and custard springs to mind however I wouldn't want to get into the details at this point. My accountant is still doing the numbers...
Suffice to say, albeit slowly, we are nearing a solution to one of the early issues raised by one of our focus group, namely the thorny problem of how one drycleans a ferret!
It feels quite soft. Which fabric conditioner do you use?
The light of the Endymion Moon shall guide our actions and by it's light we shall cantor into the desert, bereft of hope, until the sound of the chantor of Symbrial sounds again in the land... namely Tuesday week behind Sainsbury's.
You will easily recognise me. I will be the one wearing a Gekko and one red sock!
Note to self. How does one stretch a gekko onto one's left foot? Must buy more vaseline.
The vaseline may soon be in short supply wot with that there credit crunch going on. I suggest more sandals and tent pegs to keep the midgies at bay. Fear not the bailiffs, for they seek only the portained ones.
Someday, when all this is over, we will look back and thank our lucky stars we put all our money into Zimbabwian Treasury Bonds! Those big number look so pretty...
Not to worry, I rolled a 6 and already have (Dispel Midges +8) so everything's going to be ok.
And if the bailiffs come, I shall hide in the floating Viggers(tm) Duck House until they go away!
I just hope they cannot hear me whispering to my imaginary friend in there?!?! "No Albert! LATER!"
Haha where are you from? we have trees everywhere, granted not as much and we should but every town and city has trees, theres woods in most of our parks and we're slowly but surely making our country green again
Your correct. The land has been raped! just look at britain on google earth. towns, cities and fields are all that remain on 90% of the land. Parts of north Wales and Scotland have the best forested area's left and even they are tiny. such a shame.
I believe it will work. I'm apart of an organisation at the moment known as the RemembranceLine.theremembrancelineDOTorgDOTuk for anyone interested and I am a bit sick and tired of people saying it won't work. Isn,t it better to take the risk in live of finding out and trying rather than being left all your live to wonder. Cause you never know if you try harder enough you might just suceed. Too many people will try and run you down when trying to achevie something.
Anything humans can do to restore at least some of nature's diversity is good.
Since we crowded "mother nature" out in the first place, the least we can do is to invite her back into these "safe zones." Perhaps we can treat her with more respect this time.
Pope John Paul II - mysticaly slept in April 2005, just like Lazarus -, present Pope Benedict XVI, and "the Little Pebble" i.e. Pope Little Peter Abraham II.
I hope this thing works out for the moose...(or is it mooses? What do you call more then one moose? We call more then one goose geese, do we call more then one moose meese?)

@Mishomisguitar Just like dinosaurs should be reintroduced. Because they used to live here too.

@Mishomisguitar yes, and they are thriving so much that they are overrunning nfld. Which is great for everyone wanting to eat organic meat.

At some point, of course, they'll have to reintroduce wolves to keep things under control.

Thank you.

It's part of the name of the island...
Proper names have capitals.

Do you think that action should be taken against those, such as Ian Beale, who flout these rules?

Yes.
I suggest hanging!
It's cheap and rope is readily available from your nearest corner discount store.
Flogging with nettles is just not really enough!

Your ferret obsession is indicative of a greater fear; the fear of slippers. Recognize.

You fool.
NEVER say the cursed 's' word out loud... lest 'they' hear and the shuffling begins.
I hear the shuffling... shuffling...
Do you hear them?
THEY'RE COMING CLOSER!
Run... run with me!
RUN!

Bad news! They ironed him!

Har har har, the British have trees only in between the pastures along river beads. Everything else is desolate and exploitated.

Dalrrr 2 years ago
I don't think you know what desolate means.
wedgeh05 2 years ago
It means poor or overused environment ;)
teemuruskeepaa 2 years ago
Well, no it doesn't.
1. barren or laid waste; devastated: a treeless, desolate landscape.
2. deprived or destitute of inhabitants; deserted; uninhabited.
3. solitary; lonely: a desolate place.
4. having the feeling of being abandoned by friends or by hope; forlorn.
5. dreary; dismal; gloomy: desolate prospects.
If you think the british countryside is these things, you're an idiot;)

watch in 10 years when all the local deer are dead from mad moose n it'll be that red squirrel- grey squirrel crap again.
powback 2 years ago
isnt the red squirrel/grey squirrel about introducing a non-native species?
the moose was once native and was extirpated--it is not a foreign, non-native species.
where i live in New England, USA, moose and deer co-exist and have done so for millenia. (different niches-not competative)
