  • america was over 90% white in 1951.Good ole days!

  • @IwontConform You mean the united states. Just to be clear.

  • 0:18 Fastest. Retreat. EVER

  • Not much standing still going on.

  • its the Stig...

  • better effects then the shitty remake

  • It would have been funny a kid in the crowd had a slingshot, and he zapped it just like he did to the military weapons.

  • The ROBOT Gort was actually the Doorman at Grauman's Chinese Theatre...Uncredited, he was about 6/6... I was not able to locate his name

  • @FunnyAsARubberCrutch Try 7' 7", and his name was Lock Martin, and he's listed in the credits of the film. Google "Gort" and you can read all about him...

  • @captkirk73 FOUND IT!!!! Thanks- I was in a Media class....YEARS ago, B 4 we had internet, and we could not get this info

  • best scifi film ever made, with incredible shrinking man a close 2nd,just waiting for them to make a remake mess of that like they did with this though.heard when worlds collide is out soon too.....

  • The communists have come to disarm the free world and enslave it.

  • This is one of the best science fiction pictures ever made.

  • "GORT !! Declato Proscio !!" (close the visor, baby !!)

  • GORT is my Cat's cousin !!!

  • YOU GUYS are in TROUBLE NOW !!!!

  • the music gets me at the start owwwerr

  • Typical humans someone travels a billion light yrs. and we welcome them with guns and tanks. If you can travel the universe gun powder isn't going to threaten you. Hope we don't act like this when "they" eventually contact us lets say Hi guys welcome to Earth.

  • @rag5206 Dude it's real! it really happened, I was there...! yea, stupid merikans...!

  • Look. It's Thomas Bangalter

  • Simply one of the greatest science fictions movies of all time. When Gort walks down the ramp, and closes up the ship behind it, you know some serious ass-whupping is about to happen. The music of Bernard Herrmann is absolutely essential to the power and chills of this movie. Masterpiece!

  • With out saying a word, when Gort stepped out of the ship, everybody with thier simple ape brains knew what he was about.

  • Gort was the coolest guy there ever was !!!!!

  • kkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk que lixo nem se compara ao remasterizado kkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk

    evoluimos muito em 50 anos

  • GORT for President 2012...

  • Gortpropaganda sucks

  • I thougth the remake was good aswell stop being such retards

  • gortpropaganda ftw youtube.com/user/gortpropaganda

  • The first "Iron Giant". Gort - Klaatu barada nikto

  • This scene is still impressive after all those years. Bernard Hermann's brilliant musical score helps a lot!

  • 1:19 - thats the classic western ricochet bullet sound fx run backwards (as the beam exits Gorts helmet)

  • @fishybishbash thumbs up for the wilhelm scream :)

  • I wish GORT were here today!

  • I really like the closeup of Gort before he opens his visor ;)

  • It's so cool that even though Gort is a machine he wears underpants.

  • never try to remake a classic that is perfect already!

  • never try to remake what is perfect already.classic!

  • Tis' actually scared me a little.

  • Gort should have melted into and out-of the structure of the ship's bulkhead in the remake just like the T-1000 in Terminator 2. That would have been an inventive and welcome entrance in the remake. But Keeanu Reeves as Klaatu? Well I knew these aliens were advanced but I didn't know that they were also little metro-sexual gay-boys. Suddenly...I'm just not so afraid anymore...

  • Achievement Unlocked !!! XD

  • Gorts like " Ya done fucked up now." Gorts coming for ya.

  • YOU HEARD THE MAN, GORT. DEFLATE OLD ROSCOE THIS INSTANT

  • Daft Punk

  • There is no Remake. You need *actors* for a movie. Keanu Reeves ≠ actor. His mimic variety is limited to one (dense) face. You could replace him with a scarecrow without anyone noticing. A wax figure has got more expressiveness than Reeves. Period.

  • @bussela Harsh

  • @PrimaNosferatu Yes, isn't it? :-D

  • @bussela Yup ^_^

  • thumbs up if you guys reconized gort's suit being made out of astranorts cloths hahaha

  • I wish I could find this portion of the soundtrack.

  • see THUG COPS MIAMI and read the blue link below any of my recent videos? SEE, please, VIMEOISIN to see me parody myself in predictions of things to come. AM A COP of sorts from BEYOND this world, it seems. I am Reid Welch and I am no liar.

  • If you're going to remake a movie,it's a good Idea,if the original was good, don't fix what isn't broke.Gort has got to be in the top ten of movie robots.

  • FREAKS AND GEEKS BROUGHT ME HERE :P

  • Only part of this clip that doesn't really work is the 'sped up' shot of the fleeing crowd. Other than that, just amazing.

Though I do wonder what fool decided to deploy field artillery for a target a hundred feet away. Also, the crew compliment of a Sherman tank was five. Looks like a couple of guys didn't make it.

  • The remake was a fucking fail , there is no way to remake the original . It was and is the best , no matter if it is made in the fifties, this was science fiction at it's best ..... Fuck cgi movies , get real ship mockups and costumes like it is supposed to look like . Reboots are for suckers ...

  • This is a classic. Made in 1951, the special effects are pretty good. the script is great with a wonderful message and the music is right on. True horror is not necessarily in the visual, it's in the words. Michael Rennie was perfect for this part. For some reason, a person with an English accent has more credibility. Just a great movie, rated one of the best science fiction movies of all time.

  • Is it that long ago 1951, i wonder where i was then???.o yes los alamos working on similar types.I have this in color very rare.

  • @moya138 "I have this in color very rare."

No you don't, unless it's the 2008 remake.

  • @tripleJ1955 Yes i do you have no idea who i am.

  • Gort looks crotch bound.

  • I WANT TO BE RAPED BY GORT.

    SEXY METAL BASTARD!

  • @maureenOWW Just in case you thought me deranged, I just want to point out that GORT is primarily a sex-bot. It stands for Guaranteed Orgasm Robotic Technology. The whole laser-beam thing is part of his S&M program.

These are facts. I have the original screenplay.

  • the music nails it also

  • my kids grew up in the CGI era. they sort of shrug at ths scene. but for me, this was--and still is---chilling. a creature entirely devoid of fuzzy human warmth. stern and souless

  • @wrybreadspread Thank you! I think this scene is both chilling and powerful and the music has a *lot* to do with it. You forget that it's rubber suit because you get pulled right in and almost become a part of the scene.

  • @thafoofa one can only imagine the impact this scene had on viewers back in its first theatrical release. I was a kid back in the 1960's when i first saw it; years before Star Wars or even Star Trek TOS. The scene later in the movie where Gort melts the barrier he was sealed in and almost disintegrates the heroine ("klatu barada nikto") had me totally wired when i first saw it. it remained my sci fi fave for many years. I still think Michael Rennie is a superior Klatu to Keanau Reeves

  • @wrybreadspread "I still think Michael Rennie is a superior Klatu to Keanau Reeves" Absolutely. The re-make pales in comparison to the original in every way. Yes, the scene with Gort and Helen had me on edge too.

  • @thafoofa I bet Rennie surfs like a girl and has bogus adventures.

  • is it me or does gort's helmet sorta resemble one of the guys on daft punk

  • Theremin!!!

  • @Jaiv74 Exactly that is the specified comment!

  • Genetically-Organized Robotic Technology

  • my teachers name is Mr. Gort, lmfao and hes 55 y/old

  • oh this is way more cooler than the remake....even though the sfx looks kinda dated in some parts this must have been such a wow factor back in its heyday......!

  • Don’t mess with my good friend Gort unless you want our precious planet to be obliterated in a matter of seconds, LOL! Happy “End of the World” day my friends, LMAO!!!

  • Pity the video started just a few seconds too late. Gort's appearance, completely out of nowhere, is still very effective watching it today.

  • Gort? What kind of a name is that?

It sounds like Swedish dessert made out of pig testicles?

  • I liked the remake.

  • This 1951 film has a magnificent music score by the great Bernard Herrmann, beautiful piece of music full of color, is perfect for the film....thanks for posting it.

  • Remake is UN-watchable. They should be ashamed of themselves for making such an insulting remake of this magnificent sci-fi masterpiece. Did you see the precision of Gort's rays as they individually targetted first the small-arms and then the main battle tanks? They didn't use computers, although you'd think they did....and their work still holds up today. Gort sized up the situation and took appropriate counter-action without using deadly force. Brilliant !

  • @JetMechMA AMEN!!! The re-make is krap. I watched this as a kid on "Family Classics", & other shows in Chicago. Of course, now I own a copy. Excellent sci-fi. 1950's tech still works! "The War Of The Worlds" re-make is pretty good. Darn close to the book & the original flick.

  • @YaesuFT736R War of the Worlds is well made...but I found it a little violent. No, I found it very violent. I think a child could be traumatized by the new version.

  • that lady carpenter stayed with looks like that jane way lady from star trek voyager

  • One of the best of the classic sci fi movies. Simple technology, still entertaining especially to those who remember it's release.

  • ...i would like to make babies with gort,

    ~does it have a "orfice" ?

  • whilst watching this video mute the sound then open another tab and play this video:

    youtube.com/watch?v=QDba1FqPtdA

    LOUD!

  • Horror novel about two boys who find something strange on the beach one night see video book trailer

  • LOL

  • Gort 1 Yanks 0.

Why is it that Americans don't like ANYONE having a bigger gun than them?

  • @duckgeezer Americans recall the lesson taught the Romans by Brennus the Gauls in 387 bce when he threw his sword onto the scales proclaiming "Vae Victis": Woe to the Vanquished. There is no substitute for victory. We Yanks would rather spend Trillion$ for defense than give one penny in tribute. It is better to rule over a pile of rubble and rotting corpses than be subservient in a splendid palace of a conquerer and better to die on one's feet fighting for freedom than to live on one's knees.

  • @9432bce6 Or if that fails you could just burn the civilians alive like you did in Vietnam.

Or poisen their only food supply with Agent Orange. You are nothing but war mongering bullies.

ANYBODY who disagrees with US foriegn policy INSTANTLY becomes "the bad guy".

    How pathetic.

  • @duckgeezer You're assuming humans have intrinsic value. But you're mistaken. All value is subjective including human life. Those who oppose US values or pose a threat to Americans (or me) have a negative value. Hence, it is morally good to destroy them. It is unknown what Marcus Furius Camillus uttered upon the battlefield after defeating Brennus' forces, but it would have been amusing if he had "VAE VICTIS" written upon Brennus' crucifix. Might makes Right because I am the standard of value.

  • @duckgeezer Gosh Duck: looks like a personal problem to me; if you dislike us Yanks so much, you're welcome to come do something about it. Do recall though that Marcus Furius Camillus put the hurting on Brennus and his buddies and that we Americans have lots of guns, so "VAE VICTIS" will not be said of us. BTW, shame on you for having sympathy for communist pieces of shit. Only capitalists and individualists have value as human beings. Collectivists are immoral and should be destroyed.

  • @duckgeezer totally agree

  • they should make a movie just for this guy

  • cool special effects~!

  • This scene was filmed at the corner of Burbank Bl and Balboa Bl LA. where now are Tennis courts and soccer fields.

At 1:06 you'll see Huntz Hall of the Bowery Boys / Dead End Kids fame jump out of the tank.

  • @tpcrb Sure does look like him lol!

  • Grot Rocks ! ! !

  • Gort, police officer of the galaxy. Will terminate any aggression from any planet!

  • Hey is this movie public domain??

  • FAKE AS.

  • If it was the real military, they'd have started shooting as soon as the first laser came out of Gort's face.

  • @Megido They would have all been killed if they did fire back. If aliens came to our planet that could do what these did. We would find that we are not as tough as we think. Since they could stop electricity. Sure Klaatu could do far more.

  • @jrwel14 But they didn't know that, whether or not it is true. The moment Gort showed such signs of hostility the real military would return fire. Since they didn't in the movie we can't say for sure that Gort wouldn't have been been able to kill them all before being destroyed. Klaatu himself was shot, and killed, so the military may have stood a chance against them.

Now would they have stood a chance against the rest of Klaatu's people? No, not even a ghost of one.

  • @Megido Remember what Klaatu said in the cab. That Gort could destroy the Earth. He did have that protective shield, too. Klaatu wasn't Gort.

  • @jrwel14 Ah yes, good point. I forgot he said that.

  • @Megido Gort, being the police of all those planets. Had to have the power that no one else could touch Or, he would be useless.

  • @Megido Get Help comic book guy!

  • @itrmful Last I checked this was a movie.

  • At this pace, it may take a while to destroy earth if necessary though

  • back then, all the stuff happening brightens up my day

  • I remain to be convinced that the earth has been visited by extra-terrestrials. But I don't rule out the possibility. BUT, if they have done so, then maybe the reason they are so reluctant to show themselves is because they do not trust humankind. I can see their point!

  • GORTH?......MORON..LOL

  • If you want to read the short story, it's called "Farewell to the Master," by Harry Bates. The movie is meant to bolster one world government, where all nuclear weapons are turned over to the United Nations, who would then keep the peace (something Eisenhower advocated). The religious parallels are thick. Klaatu takes the name "Carpenter," is killed and then resurrected by the robot. In short, it was a propaganda film. But a good one.

  • Supposedly James Dean is somewhere in this scene as a soldier.

  • yes, th remake was poor, even having Neo didn't help. cheap CG fx, an they didn't even focus on th point, which is humanities primitivism, ecological damage merely being part of that. even th classic speech at th end to th nations was gone. too bad.

  • typical of us GOTH kill em all!!

  • Translation:

    "Gort ! Simmer down tiger"

  • I like Keanu but he was miscast in the badly produced remake. This movie had something. I can't put my finger on it, but I loved it, over and over and over again. Gort is the greatest. Klaatu was ultra cool. Patricia...a great actress (look at her face as Gort approaches to zap her to oblivion). The special effects for the time were brilliant.

  • I Dint like the Remake but this movie kicks it

  • @OU8121ST I agree, the remake was absolute shit whereas this movie was a masterpiece.

  • @jheadSF06 The remake was great dude.

  • @jheadSF06 lol this 1951 shit is fucking bollox

  • if your a fan of the original you gotta watch the remake with a open mind, but I agree with you, ill always prefer the 1951 version :)

  • @OU8121ST wow u need to b very old to say "din't like the remake" of the day the earth stood still

  • LOL!!!!!.I like how the crowd isn't really worried when they see klaatu come out & wind up on the ground. But then when they his "BIG BROTHER" come out.......pause.......look at his boy on the ground,......then start lumbering down the ramp....INSTANTLY everybody knows what time it is & starts HAULING!!!....lol ,can't say i blame 'em.

  • Someone plant Keanu Reeves back in the Matrix.

  • WTF did he say at 1:38?

  • @mxmissle2 Sounds like "Gort, declento prosco."

  • @ArtistinMO Could be

  • Mistakes happen

The great Lock Martin - the perfect guy to fill that suit at 7' 7"

  • By the way, the Robot's name is GORT, not Gorth

  • @KiwiKugai: Ciertamente estas en lo correcto, es Gort y no Gorth, mis mas sinceras disculpas por el error en la trancripcion fonetica

  • Brilliant movie!

  • One of the most classic Sci-Fi films of all times.

  • was watching this on tv before for some reason...thaught the knight rider theme tune was gunna come on when the visor opend :)

  • @nipster77 I always thought the Cylons of Battlestar Gallactica were modeled on Gort.

  • @ArtistinMO And I always thought that Ralph McQuarrie was based on Gort!!!!!!! Try to watch his covers on the books of Asimov´s robots.
