ahh i see... i dont think black bird was ever released:" In the area of film, MaultsBy composed and performed the song "Blackbird Fly" for the Harry Belafonte movie Beat Street. He also arranged three other songs for the movie including "Us Girl's" from the movie's RIAA certified gold sound track album."- according to carlmaultsby (dot) net
@DjDedan Could u tell me the name of the song and artist thats mixed with funky soul makossa breakbeat a little earlier in this part of the film? the lyrics where,,"my best friend" ect.. maybe the guy your talking to would know @etienne3943, been searching for over 25 years now
@1asotspla - most of these tracks that are not given credit in the movie were made for the movie to use license free and were given to Jazzy Jay to mix and were mostly white labels and were never cataloged. Even Jazzy could not tell you. Somebody at the studio might have held on to them or not but they were never commercially released.
@funkberto hip hop and pretty much all new york club/dance music is a mixture of tons of styles, for example Soul Makossa is a huge New York Club Classic... basically a melting pot of music cultures glued together by what keeps the kids groovin... yep, its a beautiful thing.
the basslines actually south african, & loved both albums, especial phony 4 mc's on the yellow album, that songs so hard to find! wish somebody would post it
This shit kills me... Mr DJ has Crappy Technic P110 strait are turntables in his house but at the burned building they have SL 1800 MK2's and a Numark 1800 mixer. Then these Idiots have the nerve knowing full well a ton of DJ's will see this. They have him holding then playing a Profile Record ie... Run DMC & Pumpkin... When it should have been a Tommy Boy label. But Brenda K. Starr is hot as hell.
One of the best scenes from the movie. I remember watching it as a kid. I ruined my dads turntable back then. Never mess with a Beogram1000 belt-driven B&O deck like that;-) My dad still thinks I was a bad kid doing that. He told me last weekend, during a dinner. I was 12. Now I'm 28, and he got one of my SL1210's a few years ago.
i've been trying to figure out what "blackbird" track he's playing in this portion of the flick for-ever! anyone have any info 'bout it.. it's soulfulshmoove* altogether love the clip tho..
No. He didn't really blend any songs. He just switched from one to the other and banged on percussion thing with a drumstick. Don't get me wrong, Double K in this movie was a inspiration for me as a DJ. But as shown it wasn't "real" mixing. You had to be in Chicago for that!
That FAT ass bassline after black bird will get you up and going

This is true mixing..as early and generic as it was. What mixture of elctronica, reagge, hip hop, soul, gospel, world, and so on. Great mix.
