It's simply 1 motor per wheel. We tried a differential, but that turned out to be too complex. To make it drive this precise we use 2 rotation sensors, and a small algorithm that determines if the robot is driving straight or in the correct direction.
Not exactly. We tested several types of tires, and these turned out to work best. The problem with narrow tires was that they wouldn't stay into position when turning.
Yeah, even with NXT V2.0, the set I have, a differential would be far too complicated. Not even the crown gears would work. You'd need to manufacture your own gears for such a job. Good idea using gyroscopes. I want to get an acellerometer and do some G-force testing by building a light weight, fast vehicle and "strapping" the acellerometer to the top and programming the robot to do super fast turns and sudden stops. Hopefully it won't be too rough on it.
yah next time make a harry potter robot (robot that shapes clay pots)

excellent , quite precise, is it using a dual differencial drive or simply a motor per wheel?

Using narrow tires will also give you more accuracy.
