But on the flip side of the coin, why are caucasian us ppl adopting asian babies/chldren in droves... more than any other country in the world... and saying how beautiful they are?
I don't get the race thing at all. What does the Euro adoption of Asian you mean? That they hate Asians? You looked so ugly that we just had to adopt you? I understand the not your birth parent, but that applies to same race adoption as well, and so there won't be any escape from that for any adopted child. But if you ain't the same race, no matter, since the people who adopted you, chose you. And they had more than one child to choose from. What does that say about you?
Dr. Lee makes a lot of assumptions about the experience of a "natural family." Not all people born into a family have a sense of belonging or feeling of pride in their birth family. Many insecurities felt by adoptees are feelings that are also experienced by individuals born into "natural" families. Do not jump to the conclusion that this statement is insensitive. Be objective. It is true that many people raised in their birth families experience overwhelming emotional difficulties as well.
@nrekeweg ... from anywhere else. Adoptees float in their lives. A biological child may be able to feel like a bad fit but they can point at their family and say, "I'm different to them." An adopted child has no strong sense of self so the equivalent statement from an adoptee might be, "I don't know who I am to be so different." The biological child views it's world from a bedrock of history, the adopted child fantasizes it's being from a cloud of mystery.
I dont understand why they feel so un-loved I knew I was loved. I dont have a great job, etc. they have much to be proud of .............a race is something to be proud of thank god I look different......an am
This is why I strongly believe Koreans should do domestic adoptions. There's a stigma attached to adoption and babies born out of wedlock in Korea that hinders domestic adoption, but it would solve a lot more problems.
err that would be the ideal that you grow up in a loving home with confidant parents from the same race. However that's not always the case. More than one of my friends get nagged on from her same raced parents for being fat, stupid, etcc.
This man explained exactly how I feel,I`m partly white and partly native and have been bullied all my life,I`m very pale and have freckles but i look kind of Eurasian(I`m not)in my country everyone looks Italian and this is a very fascist country,my father is French German and Italian and my mother is Spanish and Italian and I surely do not have their looks,it`s funny how they are "pure white" and I have lighter skin than them..I`m not accepted in any of those ethnic groups, for being "different"
oh man ..whites must be dancing when they hear this. I dont think whites look the ideal beauty . italian beauty is the ultimate ..to me that is the ideal
Read the book, "Gli Italiani Sono Bianchi? Come l'America ha costruito la razza" by Jennifer Guglielmo and Salvatore Salerno. The book is available also in English. If one looks at Italians today, there are many immigrants to Italy and the Italian of today could be easily be Sri Lankan, Chinese, or African.
And I really don't think any beauty can be ultimate. It's all just really a matter of taste. They only meant in the video that in American on the cover on a lot of magazines you're going to see the typical blonde haired, blue eyed, big breasted woman. And ofcourse, not all girls are gonna look the same as what the media defines as "beautiful".
You don't look like your adoptive parents whether or not you are in a transracial adoption. There is an appearance problem even in same race adoptions.
Appearance problem????? Tell my confident intelligent daughter whom we adopted from Korea. She graduated Phi Beta Kappa, Summa Cum Laude with her Degree in Biomedical Sciences and is now well on her way in Med School. Wow that IS a problem!!! GROW UP!!
I think you are misunderstanding the point. I don't mean to be rude but what Dr. Richard Lee is true. Your adoptive daughter and you will have different experiences about race, culture and History. Also that being raised in a bi racial family its hard to find good role models that are just like your adoptive child. For example as a chicana I will have a much different experience and view about my adoptive parents culture because i don't share the same history as they do.
LOL
Look at the backround
ITS HELLO KITTY :D
sorry got off task there >.<

True that. Even in America, it seems, where many people say "oh adoption is a good thing" people just don't adopt.

there's still a distinction between "real" whites (anglo-saxon) and "the rest"

Anglo-saxon refers to a tribal group of people in what is now England, not "generic pale people".
