Gedge! Best broken heart ever! Bring on Tunbridge Wells forum! George Best and Bizarro still get caned in my kitchen at work every week without fail. Noone there understands!!
@alicairns1974 too right mate, weddos are still givin' it some now just as good as the 'old days' wicked, and we all understand, top music will always be top..Jah Bless,
@alicairns1974 Hey, I live 'local' to there and I totally understands ! If you've not been there before, it usually takes a while for people to move ( bit restrained down here .... )but I'll def be having a 40 something stab at a Take Me pogo at very least. Do join.( Except for a 30 something one in your case, assuming 1974 is birth related ? ) Blah blah blah
Clearly one of the most underrated British bands of the last 20 odd years. These tunes are timeless - as enjoyable live today as they were in the late 80's when i first saw them. Gedge is a poet. Long live Gedge!
@wendy I completely disagree. They're not underrated - by their fans that is, and surely that's all that matters. Who cares if 12 year old girls don't have posters of them on the wall, and they don't get invited to play on TV chat shows. Having top ten singles and household fame is not what proper musicians want anyway, they just want a decent fanbase who are on the same wavelength.
A wonderful band but so disappointing live when I saw them at The National Club on 1st November 1989. The sound all wrong and Gedgey sounded totally disinterested. On record a stunning group
Recognised the stage straightaway - I was at the gig. I've seen the Weddos at the Atomic a couple of times now, just as great as when I saw them about 20 years ago (they still don't do encores though). Cosy intimacy, good sound, less than €20 a ticket, fine beer... what more could you want? Lou Barlow also puts on a good show at the Atomic Cafe every time he plays there.
GEDGE played this acoustic in our shop on Wednesday..i'm such a fan boy i got him to sign the lyrics crib notes he had for the gig along with key changes and chords! ha ha ha... i am fan number 1! ha ha ha.. last saw them play 1989!
i saw the wedding present in liverpool a few years back, man i was fucked and acting somewhat scary by my limited recollection, but it was a fucking great gig!
David Gedge is a clever so and so, didn't he invent the whole idea of playing a classic album from start to finish.... something that is now being replicated by every other band with a back catalogue.
The Wedding Present: simply Britain's best kept musical secret.
When you think of the bands that storm the charts these days on half the talent and even less of the lyrics the phrase 'Born out of time' comes to mind.
'the tender caress that brings out the man'....'appen we've all received that kinda touch at some point in our lives 'ey chaps....no matter if your southern or 'ecky thumpers!
I figured Gedge was milking the old catalog, but I didn't know he went back as far as he does for today's live shows... although when one things back on the largely throw-away material post Seamonsters it isn't too surprising.
Gedge is a Southern Wanker who, upon realising that his new band Cinerama are fucking shit decided to start playing Wedding Present songs again. The only reason he does not do encores is because his big fat head is stuck up his own stinky southern arse!
The guy has simply written classic music which he either feels need not be surpassed or improved upon, hence the people who search for this song will enjoy it. I often wonder why wankers like u even waste the time searching and typing your ill educated opinions. Really, wats happened in the past few years that can surpass this in not only quality but gritty reality? Gedge's music is such that you can relate to it but also so well performed that you can only appreciate or misunderstand surely?
Never mind the ill educated shit, you arse wipe. He (Gedge) has jumped back on the Wedding Present cart because Cinerama are shit and going nowhere.
All the other bands in the world do encores but he does not because he thinks he is a clever cunt but he is not. He comes across like a stupid stuck up nerd wanker who needs to grow up.
I saw Gedgy when I was queuing up for a jumble sale at Bramhope Methodist Church about 5 years ago, I think he used to live up there, I shouted 'Ey up Gedgy!' at him and he turned and waved at me and I was star struck for the rest of the day. What an absolute legend this guy is! Although I was once speaking to Peter Solowka in The Duchess and he told me that Dave Gedge was a twat! I dunno if he was winding me up or if the pair had fallen out with each other!!
I saw them do an encore. It was the only one I ever saw them do. It was at the Town and Country Club, Kentish Town@88/89 and they played 'Don't Dictate'. They were really on form that night, the best gig I've been to and that includes a whole load of classic gigs.
Bollocks! The last I saw them he would not play old stuff or take any requests or do an encore. Which begged the question...just what the fuck will you do? A load of new shit no fucker had heard of! Thats what!
Gedge is God - he still plays out in small venues doing what he loves - he hasnt sold out and remains true to love torn angst - the lost lover! Love live king Gedge!
Saw the original line up 3 times; at Bristol, Cardiff and finally Glastonbury, but they were always at their best (as here) in a confined space, where they'd blow the house away with their awesome guitar sound. (I liked this song so much I bought the same model Ibanez semi to play it on). Of all the live versions of this song I've heard on YouTube, this one is easily the best quality, and really does them justice. Be nice if someone could post the original studio 12" single version too though.
