I wanted to try the Speed Wheel for Forza 4. I have 2 full PC Sim rigs and one being an Eyefinity setup. I honestly like the Speed Wheel. It is so precise on my setup. I can take turns and hit apexes just right. I run with full Sim settings in Forza 4 and haves blast. I have to disconnect then reconnect it if it is not centered when I start game every once in a while. After I do this, it is very precise every time I use it. I would MUCH rather use it then the regular controller.
the Kinect and the speed wheel both suck honestly. I tried the wheel at best buy.. horrible. And I have a kinect for voice usage mostly, but for driving, and whatnot.. no thanks. I will stick with my controller, it works perfectly for me.
Kinect is great!! The headtracking works perfect. I think the only reason why it didn't work for you guys was because you were sitting a little too close. I have a rig with a large seat back and my head is 6 feet from the screen and it works great with no issues.. Darin and Shaun, Try sitting back a little further and it should work out. Thanks for the review, Although I'm really surprised about the Wii recommendation...??
@AoDIronMask lets face it, IMO, no Forza is better than Forza with a controller. Using it is like flinging a nunchaku in a china shop
I agree with them, I quit driving games because I cannot afford a decent wheel like the Fanatec amongst their other bad news...so its bad wheel or controller or no game at all, which I chose the latter.
this has to be the first time i've heard anyone recommend a wii over the kinect. there just isn't even a comparison. like pretty much everyone who bought a wii, i sold mine after about 6 months as well.
and i have yet to hear anyone talk about the PS move, good or bad.
stick to pure racing reviews guys, this one just seemed half assed. like you didn't give either the wheel or kinect a chance from the start. you certainly didn't try to hard to get the kinect to work. really not difficult.
you guys need to get the nyko kinect adapter if ur gonna be sittin so close to the kinect camera for the head trackin to work (kinect is ment to use at a distance of 6-8ft )
Fully agree with the Speedwheel thing, but Kinect is awesome IF used properly, which you two did not. You were way too close to it. I hated head-tracking with it in Forza4 so I agree there too, but I have 6 other Kinect games that all work perfectly with it, & the entire family has a wicked time with all of them. I also own a Wii and PS3 with the Move but tbh it disappoints big time, and of course the good games for Wii are REALLY good & that entire system is awesome so it's hard to compare.
You are right about kinect head tracking and triple screen is a better solution which you never mentioned. I don't think your review gave enough justice to Autovista and kinect. The full body controls to move around the cars are a good experience, and its about loving the car design. Thanks for the shows guys I'm now enjoying fanatec porche turbo 911 and clubsports with triple screen - check my videos. :)
@simracingtonight Its interesting to here other people's views on the kinect, i know that when we tried kinect with Forza 4 it worked really well and smoothly. Thanks for the episode.
like a few others I also have to disagree with your review on the head-tracking. Off the top I can tell you are sitting WAY TOO CLOSE.., especially Shaun! The reason the box is in your chest is because you're too close to the unit..., you just have to back up a little. I've not experienced any lag and with my settings it's very smooth. The key to Kinect is in setting it up properly for the room you're using it in. Once you find a good balance with those settings it's amazing!
no offence but that is not intended for racin. if u try games that are made for it it will function alot better. i dont think it was suited on this channel
5. I am very happy to work with ISR but unfortunately Darin announced that ISR will make no more reviews of Fanatec products. I accept this decision although I regret it. ISR has always been a great partner and good source for simracing reviews.
Acording to Thomas you decided to stop doing reviews of the Fanatec products and wont return his calls
4. ISR decided to stop doing Fanatec reviews with Darin as soon as Darin worked for us. This is a very reasonable policy so why would they want to change that after Darin explicitely mentioned that the relationship ended "so so"?
@catsanddogsarekillin I've noticed a lot of people are really confused as to how this head-tracking really works. You do not have to rely solely on the movement of your head. Within the settings (settings within Forza-4).., you can fine tune your set up. One feature is the ability to also use NATURAL body leaning.., as would result from the turn in real life in conjunction with moving your head. Once you adjust the settings to suit your style it's very smooth and natural.
to all the haters: these reviews had to be done since what attracts the masses is forza4.
to all speedwheel and kinect owners: try a decent ffb wheel (g25 and above) on a simulator (not a console game) and you'll realize the massive difference immediately.
@AvengeRpro Im sorry bu my g27 on gt5 feels better than lfs gtre or rfactor with both ffb mods. Its somthing about the connection with the car movement that somehow gt5 manages to communicate through ffb and the screen idk but thats just my opinion.
@morpheuzpr I'll just say that my g27 is connected to the ps3 and not to the PC. I really like how PD fixed all related issues in 2.00 and 2.02 patches. Right now I'm using simulation mode, power steering off (way better than on) and ffb strength on 10, unless when driving the x2010.
Maybe it varies from person to person but I haven't experienced the cons they describe on the wheel. I spent 4 hours straight last night in FM4 rivals mode using it without fatigue, with no trouble shifting, and no "precision" problems keeping me from setting competitive times. I'm playing to set good times so I would have gladly switched devices a long time ago if it gave me trouble.
@mpracer Well, if you lost a job and are not able to get over it, you can't/won't review great simracing wheels but silly arcade toys. This is sad, I need to look for a real simracing channel...
Hey Mr. simracingtonight guys, since you reviewed the Kinect, can you also please do a review on the PS Move? I know you are a racing channel but you always give the best reviews and your true opinions and don't just hate on a product or love on a product, you give us the truth about how the products perform. That's what we love about you guys and I would love to see a video review on the PS3 Move from the simracingtonight guys :-D
@01iamaprofessional There are a couple of move racing wheels out there. They could review those then review the whole Move like they did with the Kinect. These guys give the best reviews and I would love to see them review the Move.
There is a new xbox racing wheel that hit best buy for $69.99 called "HORI - Racing Wheel EX2" If you are willing to spend $60 on that wireless thing might as well spend $10 for the HORI racing wheel. It even comes with cheap plastic pedals and has rumble sensation. Then you have the madcatz options too which would also be a better buy then that wireless wanna be wheel thing :-D
@oOBeaverzOo Thats what i thought too when it first came out, however after trying it, i must say it's suprisingly good!, so much so that i got one myself.
I have had this wireless speed wheel for over 2 months and I admit, its pretty good for its PURPOSE. I did a 100% F1 2011 race at Abu Dhabi with no safety car and did it just fine!
I so glad you guys got the same problems that I have found lol I was so sad that I did not have beeen able to fix the kinect on forza but I knoew it was bull before I plug it in. ;)
Great review guys, it'll be interesting to see how the Simraceway SRW-S1 compares to the Microsoft Wireless Speed Wheel. I was always wondering how Kinect would work for head tracking, looks like it still needs time to mature. At least Microsoft is releasing Kinect drivers for the PC, I can't wait to see what people will be able to come up with, especially once the next generation of Kinect arrives.
If one of the pros has to be "it works", you know exactly what sort of product this is. Also: "better than a controller" - sure, unless you drive manual ... unless you want to be precise ...
I have used the head tracking on Forza and they are right. You don't get the sense of feeling if you've turned the corner right. The car seems to slidey. They forgot to mention as well when you itch your nose the tracking goes a bit crazy too.
Contrary to the other comments, this one hit the nail on the head and confirmed a lot of my suspicions regarding it.
The voice activation reminds me of HawkX though, never ever be on Skype with that enabled... Missiles might get launched when you are talking to you buddy as it reacted to the "Shh" sound and "Dou" sounds :P
And the headtracking was very limited here as well, no where near what a field of view a tripple screen setup would give, cheaper than 3x screens for Xbox though.
@simracingtonight Good new 2012 for all the simracers. I use TrackIR too and it give me more immersivity in the game. But don't tell me that to drive without to take a wheel in your hands halp the simulation immersivity! No issues using head tracking with my rig. You just need a light in front of you so it CAN see you.

got to say, I find the head tracking very good on my setup. Have had no issues with the tracking or with people walking past in the background.
Don't used kinect for anything else other than the voice commands which, once learned, are very useful and speed up moving around the menus.
