I remember at the beach, Ocean City, Maryland, I've never seen a military jet that low, but I have heard several sonic booms as the pilots from Dover Delaware to the north fly south, and Oceana Naval Air station fly north :-)
there is only one person in that jet...the pilot...the extra seat holds his giant balls of steel!!!! My balls just got bigger just for watching this video...I think I just became a true man. I'm going to go eat me some meat, have sex, and then do manly things now...if you will excuse me....
@rsx123 Well if you look really closely while the jet flies by you'll notice that you hear the jet after you see it......given that sound travels at around 750mph this is simple logic that only the non-retarded among us will understand.
He may not have been at 700 mph he may have been sonic booms happen when breaking the sound barrier approx 768 mph on a normal day I've seen this exact stunt in person multiple times he's moving and to prove a point you seem him before you hear him at the Dayton air show he comes across the crow from the back and he is in you sight before the sound catches your ear scares the hell out of you point being 700 mph is possible 20 feet idk I think the top of the canopy is at like 12 feet when they
the Hornets length is 56 ft. simple measurement puts this height at about 40 to 55 ft off the water...still REALLY low and way! below the hard deck for normal pilots.
Seriously, who are all of these "experts" exclaiming "this is not 20 ft..."?? Really?? Where is your altimeter in all of this... Enjoy the freakin' video and shut up! P.S. 20 ft is about "2 people" off the ground and that's about his altitude.... give or take ;)
@FunkteonRecordings Ref: "about" and "2 people" being in parenthesis, emphasizing the fact that all of this is an estimation and everyone wasting their time acting like experts is quite annoying. It's 20 feetish... get over yourselves.
@SpeakingInGeneral I'm not an expert, but I can do simple math. The F/A-18 Hornet has a wingspan of 40ft. If he was really at 20ft of altitude, he would be so low that a simple 90 degree roll would put his wingtip level with the water. He's obviously higher than that, more like 35 feet ("only" 35 feet). And I don't know where you come from, but where I live "2 people" is considerablly less than 20 feet. Three six-foot men would be 18 feet. I'm sure the pilot is well aware.
Chuck Yeager said that in the 50s he would take a P-80 wide open as low as it would go over the desert. Being in ground effect Yeager said he could push the stick full forward & the plane would not lower or pitch down. I wonder if the '18 has similar characteristics, the faster you are going, the greater cushion of air.
@3N1GM4 The A/C is 56 feet long, My Mk1 Optical Camparitor analysis would suggest an altitude of around 40 feet above the water. Still plenty low at .8 or thereabouts.
They had shows at Jax Beach where they flew close to the deck like that, a few even caused rooster tails, Talk about an awesome site, the roar of the engines as they pass and a tail of water 10-20 feet into the air...Breath taking!!!
Could you imagine being one our of Enemies, standing on a beach somewhere and have an entire squadron of our planes flying in under the radar like that on our way to blow some shit up? That would be incredibly demoralizing to see, don't you think? lol
Exactly what I thought the first time I saw a T-birds show. Honestly, nothing on video can ever prepare you for it. The power and skill are just...well, you'll never use the word "awesome" in the same way again. And you don't have to be a militarist or a supporter of our foreign and war policy lately (which I'm not) to be blown away by these shows. I tell anybody who asks about them to see one whenever they can, if they haven't before. They really are beyond amazing.
@emncaity I live about 1 mile from NASJAX and they have airshows every year here. They fly over my house..can you say loud ?!?! NASJAX is the home of The Blue Angels ..The shows really are beyond amazing. The pilots are only allowed to be on the team for a few years due to the stress of the precision they must maintain..the wings are only about 12 inches apart when they fly in formation..
Heh...I'll bet that's impossible to get used to, but still awfully cool. And the actual shows...I mean, I thought I had lost the ability to be completely flat-out amazed until I saw one, and then another (I've seen the T-birds twice, Blue Angels once), and it's still amazing to me.
Good video, but nowhere NEAR 700 mph. Having served in the Navy in two fighter squadrons and onboard carriers I've seen numerous high speed and truly supersonic passes by both F-14's and F-18's. This pilot was doing about 500 mph. Still a cool video, though. Thanks for sharing!
