the japanese dont expect harleys to be faster than japanese bikes. but they own harleys coz riding and owning harleys make them to be able to feel much cooler and to be able to live as outsiders. running fast or not will never b any problem at all. what big deal is whether that bike is cool or not. u know what i mean? if u could understand, u'd better shut ur damn mouth.

I own a zx11 based setup and I own a ss88 custom softtail. I drive my zx11 to go fast, but i can pull a better looking bitch on the softtail any day of the week and would much rather go on a long ride on the soft tail.
I think you need to examine why people in a foreign country are buying these "ancient bikes" its not to go fast. Its a style and a feel that really is not obtained no matter how hard foreign markets try to imitate.
