Okay I've never heard this before but I'm familiar with the score, and I came here expecting to not like it. I actually did like it, it really went somewhere, in a sci fi movie soundtrack kind of way. It's an abstract soundscape, brings up a lot of visual images.
Like a lot of things I'm not a fan of, if there's an exceptionally well done example I appreciate it.

There is nothing "genius" whatsoever aobut this. Calling this genius is like having an chimpanzee splash paint all over a canvas and then declare it genius. Let's not get ridiculous here people.

LOL!! XDDD 'great' ...this is soooo bad!!! I can't believe some ppl are still doing this 50s/60s type of music. it's really childish and annoying. like "ooooouh that was soooo subtle" ....LOL CAN'T HEAR!!! sry!!!
is that some kind of sick joke? or are you just retarded, obviously you haven't developed a decent set of ears and cant hear the intricacies george crumb has layered in this piece, and yes it is subtle

It made me think of Bartok's celebrated "night music" in Music for Strings, Percussion and Celesta... and of Crumb's "Haunted Landscape."

Ack! You cut off the end of the movement! (The "shockwaves" after the "explosion.")

@trunks2861 I don't think this is beautiful. And I don't think Crumb meant for it to be beautiful.
