Nice arrangement. Does your instrument have any expression controls on it? It would be cool if someone could design a stack that has separate expression for each note, kind of like the Kaster Kastonome or the Solo Apollo. Since, after all, MIDI coding already codes for separate expression for each note (I think).
My Midi conversions convert a regular Player Piano to play MIDI files. I also can convert Duo Art and Reproducing piano's in which do have expression. The Disk systems that are out there use there own solenoids that push the keys that are "post modulated" and therefore you can set the expression. Converting the original Player Piano Stack operates much better that adding a Disk System using the push solenoids. The original stack has a much better repetition than the push solenoids can produce.
I know pneumatics kick solenoid's butt any day of the week, also for safety reasons. What I meant is a custom pneumatic stack, with each valve isolated from the main supply via it's own pouch regulator (hickman style), which can be made small since it is only regulating the expression of one note.
Either a computer-controlled continuously variable leak (based on the 128 expression levels), or else a series of graduated holes (like, 8 correctly graduated holes opened in various combinations produces 64 expression levels) will set the expression level.
I don't know if you like or hate Craig Brougher - I personally think he has some very good ideas and novel concepts. His idea of taking the so-called "Hickman curtains" as found in the Ampico B reproducing piano and adapting them to control the expression for different instruments in an orchestrion is novel and apparently works well (at least, assuming that's what he used in the Spirit of Independence, his own-built orchestrion, which is very expressive).
