  • This absolutely awesome, especially when he dances, jumps, and flaps his arms like a bird at the same time!

  • What are the first two tunes in this called, the ones that Count Basie's band plays?

  • Funny Jerry never had a dance lesson in his life. Amazing at it....

  • I have been in love with Jerry Lewis my whole life - and I totally agree he is hot a hell and a hell of a dancer!!

  • the thing about this is that Jerry adlibbed to whole thing so it was spur of the moment

  • I love jerry..I grew up watchin him. I'm still watchin his movies with my son now....

  • Filming was only postponed for 2 weeks

  • That's exactly how I entered the room at my high school prom!

Or would have, if I could have.

  • i love jerry!!..... fact- when he ran up the stairs he did it in six seconds and he had heart failure they had to rush him to the hospital =) i know my jerry

  • Yes their is only one Jerry Lewis. It's about time new generation find out about the genius. His labor of Love, just to make us laugh. It is true he brought out the child in us all. I saw all his movies in the theater on the big screen. My brother and I still talk about his drifferent movies. Scene, lines, lip singing ect. he would do, We laugh and laugh like children again. Dearly loved

  • That. Was. AWESOME!

  • I just saw this moments ago on the documentary. Are you kidding me!!!! Unreal!!!

  • @kingofmilwaukee6969 I saw it too! That's when I came here to see it for myself! I had no idea Jerry Lewis was such a genius!

  • Jerry is the best comedian of all times, nobody compares to him,he was my very first idol,my first crush since I was a litlle girl my second one was Elvis.

  • he never took a dance lesson in his life. he faked it all! and this scene was shot in 2 takes lol GENIUS!!

  • Ran up the stairs in just 8 seconds. Then collapsed out of frame and suffered a heart attack and was rushed to the hospital. True factoid!!!!!

  • @87giantbaby I take it you watched the documentary too

  • @87giantbaby Yup, I saw that in the documentary. My goodness. That's crazy how he went into heart failure and once he was in an oxygen tank his father asked him, "Do you know what you're doing to your mother??" Wow.

  • Jerry! You Are So Loved!!

  • Too damn cool dude!

  • He makes it look so easy!

  • Yes-my Mom always thought he was good-looking-but why do i always associate him with depressing -go back to school Labor Day telethons? And yet outside of Abbot and Costello Sunday mornings-Jerry defined funny for me in my 70's childhood-and for every snarky, ironic "satirist" today? You try Way too hard-and you don't LIKE people like He did....

  • GET EVERYONE OFF THE STAGE!!! AND I MEAN EVERYONE!!! They are crowding Jerry Lewis!

  • I love you, Jerry Lewis!

  • Jerry is TOO funny... but in response to others...nooooooooo never thought of him as cute or "hot", just FUN and FUNNY! I wish I could do some of the cooky things he gets away with in his movies

  • very good actor......

  • no your not i'm a big fan of him too and that on the age of 8 now i'm 47 and still am a fan of him i alway's will and i am from holland or the netherlands

  • This is classic!

  • If you are a movie buff, or in any way a fan of Jerry Lewis or just love watching movies, this is a genious in action. below Jazman gave an account of how this was performed. He is correct. he only left out one thing. When jerry made his way back to the top of the stairs, he collapsed off camera and had a heart attack. ive studied jerry lewis and have read his book on producing. What a pure genious both in front and behind the camera. Thanks Jerry. mwoolerymediadotcom

  • Just saw an interview w/Jerry on PBS where he says the music was prerecorded. The set was built over two adjacent soundstages to give him the scope he wanted. He picked the camera angles, framing ("Always show Jerry from head to toe), and determined "no cut-aways, the whole thing has to be one continuous shot." AND THEN HE IMPROVISED THE ENTIRE STAIRWAY DANCE IN ONE TAKE! "I had no idea what Jerry was going to do until the music started!" Sheer genius.

  • 2:43 - 2:46 I can see him saying, "Hit it, Count!"

  • 2:38 - 2:40 That's a nice way to talk about the guy who writes your paycheck, Judith! "Corkhead," really? (I'm only joking, don't take it seriously!)

  • Jerry Lewis was one of a kind. I don't remember this movie. what's it called?

  • It's so weird hearing his real voice after watching him with Dean Martin so long with his "I LIKE IT, I LIKE IT!" voice. I loove it anyway.

  • anna maria alberghetti is so cute here.

  • A great comic talent, very much of his time. His films suffered from way to much self- indulgence. Away from showbiz, there`s a very interesting and complex man.

  • .... porque sou à moda antiga.! Buenas Noite!!!!

    Showwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww !

  • The best, my lifetime comic who is so talented otherwise too.

  • 2 ppl must be communists, this scene is one of many for such a great classic..

  • Oh my god the the stair case number. So corny, I think I laughed my self to death.

  • 5:02 that is how i dance

  • Just once, before I leave this big ol' earth...I'm gonna have to enter a room like that.

  • The Wizard of Comedy! truly irreplaceable and copied by other..

    MISS MY EPIC => Classic+Charm = unique.

  • everyone wishes to have this big an entrance

  • this would be a great part for jim carey to play.

  • he had a heart attack right after he ran up the stairs, he ran up thoses stairs in about 8 seconds, and their are alot of stairs there. It was to much for his heart ( he has had heart problems sence he was born) when he got to the top he fell and they toke him to the hospitle.

  • was going to ask if he had to do this scene over and over or was it improv...I see it was improv...so surprise..I love watching him movies when I was a kid and love them even more now...ty for sharing!

  • Wow, so beautiful, so effortless and also funny. Love love love him!

  • Downright Fantastic Dance Sequence. Jerry was no slouch as a dancer!! Anna Maria seems almost spellbound by him as he comes down those steps!!

  • Sexy man.

  • This WILL happen at my reception. Aaron Vaughan, if you are reading this. I meant what I said. You will be voted off the island. Muahahahaha.

  • 5:03 - 5:09 had me bustin' a gut!

  • Bravo, Jerry Lewis!

  • is anyone else reminded of Dick van Dyke when Jerry dances? Something about them is very similar. (Jerry's better tho...so smooth and yes, hot! He is such a skilled dancer!)

  • @lotsandlotsofbubbles yea looked like Dyke's dance in Mary Poppins

  • They dont make movies like these anymore...

  • genius, pure genius

  • when was shot?

  • There aren't 5 comedians living or dead who could have done this....

  • I think I've asked this before, but am I the only human being on earth that thinks that Jerry Lewis was kind of hot????

    By the way, MERRY CHRISTMAS

  • @Christlessgrave oh my gosh he was such a babe ;) lol

  • @molz505 LOL are you being serious or what?

  • @Christlessgrave oh totally serious. no joke

  • @molz505 i'm glad i'm not the only person who thinks he was hot back in the day

  • @Christlessgrave Hot is not the word...Jerry Lewis was freakin sexxyyy =]

  • @Christlessgrave

    Totally Hot!!!

  • @Christlessgrave Soooo hot!!

  • @Christlessgrave NO! You're not, Christess....I have always thought he was quite sexy then!

  • @Christlessgrave haha, your not alone.

  • @Christlessgrave nooooooo! cause he is!

  • @Christlessgrave NOO!!! he is hot! ur not the only one!

  • @Christlessgrave No not the only one. I'm determined to find some fanfiction somewhere. Love him!<3

  • @Christlessgrave It's always hot when a man can make you laugh. Jerry wasn't bad to look at either.

  • @Christlessgrave Nope. he's hot.

  • @Christlessgrave No. I had a huge crush on him for years....!! I realized, eventually, that only great intelligence and great talent can create great humor, and those are my personal big three turn-ons!

  • @Christlessgrave No he was very hot in his day. Cool and sophisticated as he matured. Very into his music, very musical and a great interpreter of dance.

  • @Christlessgrave no you're not at all! he was yummy!

  • @Christlessgrave He's hottest has been to me sine I was a kid, long ago.

  • @Christlessgrave --- Lewis can throw out the old suave when he wants to.

  • whats the name of the band playing that lovely tune =)

  • What is the name of this song? Is there anyway I can get it on i tunes??

  • That's the absolute BEST way to EVER COME DOWN A FLIGHT OF STAIRS !!!!

  • @cnnroker I never noticed that. I would have busted my behind....lol!

  • This is how i ALWAYS enter a party..because me & Jerry are smooth like that! Forget Colt 45! The Jerry Lewis Swag works every time!

  • best entrance to a party EVAR!!! :)

  • For the closeups, the female lead was asked to "think of England."

  • alot of people don't know...but when he finished this dance scene and he ran back up the stairs, he collapsed with his first heart attack. I wonder if he had chest pains during this scene?

  • This is a cool film. the best part about the whole movie is one song number where we get to hear Jerry sing for real and serious. He's better then I thought, I wish I could hear him sing like that more often!

  • Who are the 2 insane people who didn't like this?

  • did you knew that he made the scene in just one take??

  • @LocoEd79 i think he did because when he ran back up the stairs he had a heart attack

  • url

  • wouldn't it be awesome to make one of Jerry Lewis' entrances to a party?

  • @ivansilice I'm thinking about doing a Jerry Lewis entrance when i go to my Uncle's wedding next month haha :D

  • He worked it...whatever it was, he was working it! Why does it still work?

  • Truely magnificient! I love the way he "floats" down the stairs. I never get tired of Jerry Lewis, he is a genious.

  • why don't you search out the count basie on youtube and find the title of the song

  • awesome scene

  • Why is this mezmirizing?

  • @Christlessgrave Because it's Jerry Lewis! :)

  • This is one of those deals where it's hard to imagine anyone but Jerry Lewis doing it.

He set the standard for scenes like this and most every other comic comes in a distant second.

  • I watch/listen to this daily! Jerry is a must for me! <3

  • SPLENDID...EXTARORDINAR...AND MORE

  • Chaplin, get back!

  • The greatest Actor,Dancer and Person!

  • JL el mejor en todo lo que hace, si supiera este hombre todo lo hace sentir con sus peliculas, obvio la música también, maestro con el nunguno.

    I LOVE JERRY

  • FYI___The lady who plays the princess is Anna Maria Alberghetti. She is 74 years old now.

  • CLASSIC.

  • Jerry Lewis probably did more for exposing his audiences to jazz and big band artists in his solo movies than any other comedian. Count Basie? Harry James? Les Brown? ALL of them and more in JL comedies. Yeah, Daddy!

  • i just can say one word: amazing!!:) =)xD

  • What's the song he comes down the stairs to? Pleeease anyone know?

  • This is EPIC right here! Jerry Lewis is the king of comedy! True comedic genius! A brilliant mind-a brilliant star! I love him forever!

  • do you know why jerry collapsed? was it exhaustion?

  • @avenueyay If you watch his interview at the Actor's studio he talks about running up the 63 stairs in 7 seconds, he says when he got to the top and was off camera he had a 'little heart failure and he was taken to the hospital!, he joked that that is the main reason why he can remember that the dance scene going down the stairs was 1 improvised take and going up the stairs was definatly 1 take! bless him!, i think he's fantastic, such a great talent and he was so handsome when he was young! :)

  • Magnifique!!!

  • The classic Lewis strut!

    I pissed my pants!

  • The GREAT Jerry Lewis... My God.. what a talent.. Ive always loved him... This is a timeless masterpiece.

  • Sammy Davis had him beat on the soft shoe though....;)

  • He had a heart attack at the end of this scene

  • Why did he collapse at the end of the scene? Surely not from running up the stairs...

  • @seajayaway Yes he collapsed after running up the stair because he ran up 63 stairs in 7 seconds then collapsed and had a heart attack and was rushed to hospital!

  • EPIC!!!!!!!!

did you know: he collapsed after running up these stairs and was brought to the hospital. he stayed 3 days under an oxygen tent. and nearly 2 weeks in the hospital before they were able to continue with the movie.

  • I really love the part when he was walking down the stairs. It's kinda hard to do that.

I know, 'cause I tried doing this in my school with so many steps of the stairs... I fell. Haha. I love you, Jerry! :D.

  • El mejor humorista del mundo.

  • I have been searching for this film for a long time. I saw it when I was a child and I loved Jerry;)Thanks for posting this scene!!

  • Chapeau!!!

  • De 5:04 à 5:14 ==> Jerry Lewis, inventeur du Jumpstyle? ^^

  • when an academy award???

  • The Messed Up Part Is When He Runs Back Up The Stairs After Dancing with the Princess, He Had A Heart Attack.

  • Jerry Lewis you are wonderful.

greatest Acter, good Dancing and so sweet.

    I love you Jerry Lewis.

    Shalia583

  • excellent ...i remember pantomima of charlie chaplin like the dance in ''modern times'' or ''gold rush''..anyway lewis was a revolutionary hollywood-comic,all times...

  • The most amazing part is it's totally improv! He bought the rights to that fantastic Count Basie number first, created the set, the costumes, arranged the simple head-to-foot camera angles. Then he stood at the top af the stairs, everyone watching and waiting, and realized he had no idea what he was going to do next. When I was young I dismissed Jerry as just a clown. No more. His sense of timing is perfection.

  • @themadhare1 actually it wasn't improved on the special features of the nutty profeesor he says that he worked with dance people to learn how to dance on the stairs and he show them the dance that he made before he did it!!!!

  • bravo! JERRY LEWIS

  • Genial Jerry!

  • he had heart failer after running up the stars

  • ah this movie is amazing. just ordered it on amazon. lost the original tape

  • I mean one piece... ^^

  • But he also... went up the stairs really fast... with all the falls he had in his life I'm surprise he's in one shape today!

  • He's able to do all this magnificent dance and then he collapsed at the end... lol but I LOVE him anyway

  • Ahhh. Cinderfella! I love this movie. :D

  • Today is Sunday and I would Love to sit back and watch some Jerry Lewis...

  • They should have been on Dancing with the stars! they would get tens all across the board!

  • 5:04 to 5:14 are sublime. Jerry Lewis is GOD.

  • I'd love to make an entrance like that. Omg! I love Jerry Lewis :D.

  • I think she had a tiny orgasm at 1:34

  • HA! I BET!

  • my Marching band class is going to Boston next week from tues. to sun. and i'm going to find a set of stairs like at the begining *maybe subway* and i'm going to do this dance XD hope somebody records it

  • That's hilarious. I'm just discovering his stuff now...even though I've known about him for years. Funny dude!

  • it's like a cock dance. lol

  • Don't waste it on Springer. JERRYYYY!

  • Whats the name of this tune by the CBO?!

  • One of Hollywood Cinema's finest dance numbers! HAHAHA! Hey, it would be fun to walk into a party like that sometime!

  • I'VE DONE IT.

  • Did he collaspe at the end of this actual scene during filming, or during rehearsal of this scene? I know that filming was postponed until he was well enough, but I'm curious about when he was actually sick.

    Crazy, talented, funny man!

  • My favorite bit from any Jerry Lewis movie. He was an amazing dancer!

  • there are these big stairs when you go down into the subway, and i do this dance on them, its hilarious

  • That would be something to see!

  • i think several people reocored it :D i just wish they would post it. I would love to see it.

  • He ran up the steps at the end in 7 seconds, and collapsed off camera. Transported to hospital on oxygen tank..Shooting was delayed 2 weeks.(Just read..Wikepedia notes..)

  • Always loved CINDERFELLA! He sang one of the songs from the picture at the telethon this year, SOMEBODY, and it was dear..Difficult occasionally? Sure, but aren't we all??

  • CHECK THIS OUT: that very dance, aftrer it was finished filming THAT DAY he had a heart attack......Love the man, his telethon is on today. Gotta go

  • Wow. Nobody commented on the Dame Judith Anderson reference. (Rebecca) I MUST be very old.
