  • yeah. im in 10th grade

I did heroin with the drummer but his dad came home from teaching and beat his son, the drummer, and then the drummer's mom came in and the drummer's dad beat her too. I was so strung out, I couldn't let out a single sound or move to stop him, all I could do was let the unfathomable sadness wash over me and shed a single tear for being a part of an experience so horrible.. so apt from love... it still haunts me to this day....

    pretty sweet

  • I swear I've heard the part 2:18 to 2:48 somewhere before, in a movie or something else...

  • Fucking love these guys. They're insane.

  • i never herd a sound like this really, i like it though

  • @Iflyover Listen to Pavement. They're CEG's most obvious influence.

  • @TheGingerBomb Built to Spill says hello.

  • @TheGingerBomb I agree with the Pavement reference. Even with the lazy to scream singing style.

  • This song is phantasmagoric.

  • it sounds like pavement, it's good

  • Well, they came after all the aforementioned bands, so I'm willing to bet they were influenced by them or something. Maybe. Just a guess. Who knows. I could be totally wrong.

  • Saw them open live for the Thermals yesterday, fucking amazing. This song live is an orgasm and a half.

  • @purplepandafromhells The DC show? I was at that shit and my ears are still ringing.

  • @chesterules u mean The funeral fucking modest mouse to create a fantastic lustful song???

  • Pavement ! (the band) Reminds me a lot !

  • mm good stuff

  • reminds me of animal collective. just heard of these guys. awesome.

  • You know how people say they just wasted two minutes of their lives or whatever on youtube? Well, I do not think I could have spent the past 6 minutes and 14 any better than I did closing my eyes and listening to this work of pure genius.

  • I love how they can be so abrasive, and then gradually shift into something smooth and relaxing.

  • This has 70 thousand views...and "Alcohol" by Millionaires has 4 million...

    Fuck the world.

  • This saturday at Coney Island Free concert Village Voice's Siren Festival. This band will be playing. So if you live in the city or just visiting....GOOO!!!

  • Someone i know who went to glastonbury the other day saw there guys. appareently there was only about 5 people watching them, which is sad, cos this is really good.

  • @93cantthinkofaname yeah that's true. i was there, 2nd row. such a great band. lots of people in the tent, but all were sat down. only like 15 people stood up actively watching :(

  • @93cantthinkofaname

I watched them at Glastonbury... that bit about only 5 people being there isn't true, they had a decent enough turnout for that time on the John Peel stage...

  • This seriously rivals the Blue Album and Fleet Foxes as the best debut ever.

  • eh the best debut ever is the second stage turbine blade by coheed and cambria even if it didnt get commercial sucess

  • @thisdayjustbelongedt ,

    Yes, indeed, Time Consumer.

  • love it

  • yeah radiohead.. T_T

  • @mrjv13geb1992 What? This sounds nothing like radiohead LOL >.<

  • amazing<3

  • great song !! love it!

  • I love this. I love this quite a bit. I love this a lot. :)

  • amazing

  • i love the guitar at :27

  • reminds me of smashing pumpkins back in the days when they did sweet guitar solos

  • these guys are absolutly terrible live. Terrible.

  • @royconway why does everyone keep saying that??

  • This song is so friggin' perfect, it makes me sad.

  • @ZRN959 Nooooo I accidentally hit thumbs down on your comment! It won't let me undo it! Sorry.

  • @cheshirecatomsk hehehe...it's ok.

  • stop analyzing and start enjoying...

  • You can't do both?...

  • my teachers son is the drummer

  • @ghigliotty6 my best friend is the drummer...im not kidding ive been playing drums with him since middle school

  • @peteyherm i live down the road from them. and mr. miller rules, i remember having drivers ed with him and him blasting classic rock. it was funny

  • Best thing to come out of Staten since the Wu.

  • I agree with the angry built to spill statement, and I think they sound like modest mouse because they have the same similarities to built to spill that modest mouse does. So really they sound like built to spill and because of that they sound like modest mouse.

  • The song structures through the album are much more complex as is the music than the pixies, i can see the modest mouse influence and also a pavement influence however they are by no means ripping off any of the above bands, this song and album are brilliant, Anyone else that likes them need to look up "piskie sits" aswell they are a UK band and are brilliant, Not on youtube though for some reason

  • Well folks, ok, the vocals are similar to the Pixies (they have a slight Frank Black feel to 'em) but I would have to say, I don't think the music is Pixiesh at all.

  • Definately more Modest Mouse than Pixies

  • I've listened to a shitload of Modest Mouse, Pixies and Pavement. Anyone saying they don't have some Modest Mouse influence needs to go back and listen to The Lonesome Crowded West or This is A Long Drive for Someone with Nothing to Think About, because it perfectly fits in with the sound, song structures, and vocals.

  • an angry built to spill?

  • *Namedrop namedrop namedrop* ...Hey, wanna see my collection of post-Zuma Neil Young Belgian imports sometime?

  • why have no reviewers commented on how much this sounds like the pixies?! its so much like them. very very good (not as good as the pixies though, that would be harddddddd)

  • Sounds a lot like Crooked Rain era Pavement to me. Morso than Modest Mouse, anyway. i can feel The Pixies as well, though they'd never release a track this long.

  • these guys sound just like cymbals eat guitars!

  • @Zombien20 this is cymbals eat guitars

  • @paertreejr thats the joke :)

  • saw them last night in brstol, and yes i agree mosest mouse alike

  • hahaha modest mouse?? You've obviously never listened to the pixies. This could be a pixies song.

  • This song sounds like The Pixies more than Modest Mouse.

  • i saw them live yesterday, their first gig in italy....really a good show and nice people

  • Chills

  • i definitely get an explosions in the sky vibe (with vocals, obviously) which isn't a bad thing at all

  • 3:37

    Awesome song

  • Yes his dad is a teacher, hes my cousin actually haha

  • I wouldn't say "just like" Modest Mouse.

The guys vocals are kind of a more violent Brock, but the music is more similar to Built to Spill circa Perfect From Now On or maybe even Red Stars Theory. Actually, it's sorta like any of that cool textural rock from Seattle/Olympia in the mid-to-late 90s. Just happens Modest Mouse were the band from that scene that got the most famous.

The thing is this band doesn't sound EXACTLY like any of those bands, but like another awesome band from that era.

  • i love modest mouse and these guys are so similar, but in a good way.

    Great stuff!

  • so happy to have found Cymbals Eat Guitars....a great band....

  • haven't heard something like this in a long time! good song.

  • thumbs up to this.

  • who knew shouting wowuuuue wowuuuue wowuuuuee cool sound so good

  • hehe! :)

  • yeah. im in 10th grade

the drummers dad is my teacher

    pretty sweet

  • lucky

  • How do you know this? Did he say, "My son is in a band, 'Cymbals Eat Guitars.' "

  • yeah his son is the drummmer

    last name miller

  • @ghigliotty6 'nother 10th grader here.... yeah that is pretty damn sweet man

  • Mmmmm, I quite enjoy this!

  • epic and awesome great tune!!!!

  • wow... I expected something not so... wow.

  • Gosh that rhythm guitar hits some nerves. I love it!

  • I hear Modest Mouse and Pavement, oh, and awesomeness.

  • soon as i heard it i thought modest mouse, better imo though

  • This song is, by far, one of the best I've heard in a long time.

  • agreed.

  • I saw them @ Monolith Fest and they are absolutely GREAT live. Better than the album, no joke.

  • just saw them live, they absolutely killed it. stole the show. excellent performance.

  • ehhh Smashing Pumpkins some parts but mostly Modest Mouse like JakerO4 said

  • 6 minutes of pure genius .

  • this sounds alot like shameful dread by built to spill. thats why I like it

  • kind of reminds me of modest mouse, this is awesome though.

  • I agree :)

I adore Modest mouse, and this song.

  • this band has is a little similar too modest, mentioning modest they are the greatest live, but i stumbled on on cymbals from lastfm great site

  • EXCELLENT

  • wow they are from Staten Island,New York the shithole of ny i didnt think any good bands where from my town but mine but i guess there are they are just so good

  • I totally agree, man. But there are a few, like julius c and twisted sister. i guess they are the only outstanding ones.

  • wu-tang man

  • true wu-tang is great but i ment rock

  • Amazing Amazing Amazing!!! I'm loving this! Third time through and still great!

  • epic

  • :57 seconds blew me away

  • Only 8000 views? I'd be expecting more, seeing as this is so good and Why There are Mountains got such a glowing review from Pitchfork.

  • This is a great album

  • love this song

  • might be my favorite of all time

  • beastly

  • sweet!

  • i...can't get this song out of my head...as hard as i try

  • same

  • This band is essentially early Modest Mouse mixed with Pavement and Built To Spill.

Oh yea that's why I like it....

  • that is like my lineup for awesome supergroup!

  • Vocals remind me of Issac Brock.

  • not at all

  • Comment removed

  • they do a lot, even if not in this song

  • LAST!!!
