MT OWN TIP! - you can avoid the 'flavours (dried cranberries n white chocolate) from 'sinking' down to the bottom if you just lightly dust them with some flour before you add them in to the mix :)
You guys took such little bites off of a little piece of cake. Brits need to eat. They say food from America is big. Ha! Its because we eat and not starve ourselves.
I used canola oil in stead of sunflower oil. Does that make a huge difference? because my cake didn't turn out that great and I'm trying to figure out why.
I tried it just now, I didn't believe it would work. Nothing I ever tried to cook in the microwave came out right, except popcorn and now this. Much thanks! :)
You're doing this recipe in the name of cancer research, and you realize that cancer patients should NEVER eat this?
White flour - NO
Sugar - NO
Everyone do yourselves a favor if you or a loved one have cancer & read "Beating Cancer With Nutrition." You don't need to hear it from me, do your own research. I know I won't be feeding this to my mom, though, I actually want her to live. BTW, the cancer industry (earning millions of dollars every year) has no interest in curing cancer.
@clandestine919 If you read my comment again, you'll see that it's not me who has cancer, it's my mom. What did I do? Hours and hours of research. I sense sarcasm so I don't know if I'll even bother to elaborate. Just ask yourself why doctors inject cancer patients with radioactive glucose in order to find out where cancer is located in the body. The glucose goes straight to the sugar-seeking cancer cells...and cancer clinics put cupcakes & lollipops out at the reception desk.
@agrv8ion First of all, my mother also had cancer. She was diagnosed when I was eight. So I've probably done just as much as you have. Second, they aren't saying "Make these wonderful cakes and stuff them into cancer patients!!". It's just giving money to support them by doing what they know how to do. And third, I think that you bitching about people making cupcakes is incredibly juvenile.
@clandestine919 I found this video while researching healthy recipes that I could make for my mom. Search "cancer, recipe" and it's a top result. You call it juvenile to warn people that the very recipe done in this video, all in the name of cancer research, feeds cancer? Go ahead and donate your money to a corrupt industry, no one's stopping you. As long as the money rolls in and people remain ignorant, nothing will ever change.
2nd attempt adjusting cooking time from 2:30 to 2:10 - Not quite so tough & rubbery but still not what I would call a proper "cake". Still, it was a fun experiment and worth perfecting. Very enjoyable!
I've done my weight watcher's version of it using oat meal and muesli to replace flour, used skim milk and skipped adding oil, and the "cake" rose as nicely when it was cooked, I ate it with honey instead of cooking it with sugar. Great stuff for breakfast :)
I worked out a microwave brownie recipe by accidentally fusing the two sorted cake-in-a-mug ones, and i thought i'd share it:
1 tablespoon of caster sugar
1 table spoon of flour
1 table spoon of powdered almond
1 tablespoon of melted butter
1 tablespoon of cocoa
enough milk to mix
i put it in a really big mug (to increase the surface area...), and it came out with a brownie like texture. Plus, it doesn't use eggs, and let's be honest; how often do students actually have edible eggs in the house?
Can I substitute the white chocolate with sugar free chocolate chips and use Splenda for castor sugar instead? I'm making this for my diabetic friend for his birthday!
Have you done an egg-free cake recipe? And if you haven't, could you, please? A friend of mine is severely allergic to egg and I would like to bake her a cake sometime.
I tried making the original version of this a few times. No matter how much I reduced the amount of time I had it in the microwave it tasted rubbery and doughy. I couldn't get it right :( I would love some Halloween sweet treat recipes! They would be great, I love Halloween and Sorted :)
Replace the milk with whipped cream and it's perfect! I tried the original and it was a bit rubbery and doughy. The air incorporated from the addition of whipped cream makes the texture amazing.
@MrBBOYCALI it seems redundant because you could just add chocolate chunks in or do as the other recipe did and add chocolate powder, if you want a chocolate cake.
@sortedfood are u guys thinking of doing stuff for Halloween bonfire night and christmas cos for halloween u cud all do tht recipe in costumes and for Christmas u cud make Christmas pudding with a sorted twist but not sure wat u cud do for bonfire night
@sortedfood OK I tried this just now and i'm wondering whats it supposed to taste like. I was hoping for something like a sponge cake but mine turned out springy, plastic-ky, and slightly elastic. Am I doing it right?
Can I add vanilla essence for flavouring instead of ground almond? I know you suggested the chocolate recipe, but I make that quite regularly and thought this would be a nice change! Hope you can help! Love your videos as always :)
@olirulz2k8 As it cooled (and got jiggled around when he moved it) it would have have settled and deflated. Despite the way it looked in the video, the cake did not go flat in a second. They just edited two shots together that were probably taped a couple of minutes apart.
is it possible to transform it into a bread in a mug... the cake is delicious and I love the texture and I wandered immediately if there was a salty alternative.. like a quiche is to a pie... (I'm afraid to replace the sugar with salt, because that is going to be to salty... well I don't quite know - yet I'm curious and I'm wondering :D)
when i tried it with the choco version it topped over the edge and it was quite gross XD did something wrong with the flour or chocolate then i guess? anyways, this looks delicious, as always.
i have tried the other cake in a mug, and it tasted bad..... but i wanna try this one now lol

cookielover734 4 months ago
Just to make it easy for people:
Equal parts sugar and flour (selfraising, replace 1/8? of the flour with baking powder)
A quarter of that value in either cocoa powder, ground nuts or simply more flour and sugar
1 tablespoon of both milk and oil per 5 tablespoons dry ingredients
add random sweet treats
Bake 3 min at 800W
This way, it's all interchangeable, so you can make it however you like!
