I realize that this is very presumptuous of me. He has 1,000X the technique I ever had when I played. I hear some of the bols and aggressive sound of the Benares school my teacher had. I like his playing a lot. But his sound is too bright for my taste. It's like he borrowed his grandfather's Ferrari and is revving up and down the streets of Delhi to the "oo's" of girls and jealousy of boys. Make no mistake. He will become one of the great players of his generation.

lol ! Mate no ! :) All styles can be tremendeous fast, it's just that Purab baj (Banaras, Punjabi, Lucknow & Farrukhabad) focus more on Pakhawaj style, so those compositions are slower. But Purab has also fast compositions, like the one here. Lucknow relas are even more colorful and faster.

Beneras gharana is a very masculine gharana in terms of its sounds..the bhaya is the most distinguishly as it kept upright to get the buzzing sound.
