Recorded Columbia Studio E, New York City March 9, 1972 Miles Davis — Electric trumpet with Wah Wah Lester Chambers — Harmonica Cornell Dupree — electric guitar Michael Henderson — bass guitar Al Foster — drums Bernard Purdie — drums James Mtume — percussion Wade Marcus — brass arrangement Billy Jackson — rhythm arrangement
@sk8rbuoi Yes - he used contact pickups and mics to run his trumpet through amplifiers and signal paths that could be treated by wah - Miles apparently loved the technology that he came to use in the 70s and forward.
@Relayer1968 the pick-up was drilled into his mouthpiece. there are a lot of 1971 vids here where you can see where he would switch mouthpieces, one with the pick-up for the wah-wah and the other for the 'straight' trumpet sound. miles likened the wah-wah to emulate a guitar.
I never heard a trumpet used with wah pedal. I have the Bitches Brew cd and I think he uses some kind echo or delay. Except I don't think they had digital delay back then. What a pioneer Miles was to try those effects with a trumpet. I never heard this song before. I love it. Thanks for posting this.
Ive actually made my trumpet sound like a amped up guitar before... well that was with a silence mute that i attached to an amp and floor pedals... they didnt have that tech back then. I love you miles

@putin94 Miles and John Lee Hooker did a soundtrack together for The Hot Spot. The line up also includes Taj Mahal and Roy Rogers.

@uverdadeiro Yeah, already have that, but thanks anyway. Its ok, but you can hear that it was made for a movie and not for listening alone

'Ebote, ovo odlično. Svaka mu čast.
G minor blues, 12/8, common 12-bar progression, if I'm not wrong.

このアルバムもそうですが、70年前後のマイルスって20世紀後半を生きる人たちの「不安」みたいなものを表現しようとしていたように思います。もはやジャズの範疇を脱している。こいう音楽家って今はいませんね。

It almost sounds like Miles' trumpet is being run through a wah pedal and then out an amp with distortion.

boogster123321 1 year ago
@FireAndFlames probably, sometime he played his trumpet like Hendrix played his guitar.
