  • I love avatar it's awsome shoulld u c it ??? YESSS

  • dis is a processed movie fuckers ive already policing it..freemoviehq . o r g

  • MAN reviewers and critics bash Avatar for its storry, saying its a ripoff of Dances with the Wolves. I mean, come on give it a rest allready. Its simmilar to a point, but does that mean since there allready was a simmilar movie you cant use a simmilar spinoff story of your own for whole eternity? CMON.

Saying it was cheesy (nature vs. corporate machine), is an overstatement in my view and up to personal taste.

I for one, loved the story. Only cheesy thing in the movie was Unobtanium.

  • I subbed. I love this movie! Saw it in 3D. My film of the year!!

  • NO, watch it in 3D, in a CINEMA!!!! Its worth £7 for 3hours. As much as your electricity bill for the same amount of time

  • Just curious, how was A Christmas Carol?

  • Should YOU go see AVATAR?

    YES YOU SHOULD. Brilliant film.

  • I saw it in 3D but not Imax 3D. Brilliant. It ones of those films that grows on you the more you think about it. Despite some shaky dialogue, cliches and predictable elements it's those parts that stop it from being too fantastical and unrelateable. I'd probably go back with my family if we had the cash and my dad doesn't throw up like when he saw his first 3D movie. (Which even kinda made me sick.) The FInal Destination's 3D sucked SO BAD compared to Avatar. Trust me. The 3D is beyond words.

  • I will be seeing it on opening night.

If Cameron, who did Aliens and the Terminator goes back to Science Fiction, you really can't say that it is going to suck.

  • IMAX ? i live in europe baltic country i dont have IMAX here ofcourse i believe in cameron so i will go to my local theater and watch day 1 but no IMAX sorry maybe after 10 years we will have something like that

  • I live quite far away from an IMAX screen so going to see a film in IMAX is pretty much a day trip for me. So i figure with christmas coming up i'm gonna put off going to see it in IMAX until after christmas. But i defiantly am going to see it at my local cinema in 3D the day it comes out!!

  • Well I already pre ordered my Imax tickets

for Dec 18th in a cinema near Boston - tickets were $12.50.

    I guess I am a follower

but movie preview critic told us to try to make it the best opening weekend ever !

    Long live good movies !

Adam's mom - hijacking his utube account....

  • I just got my IMAX 3D tickets in New York :D

We paid 18 dollars each... 12.50 is our regular rate D:

Anyway, I had to pick the Sunday screenings for Avatar...on Dec 20th...Others were all reserved.

  • @Zahinn lol we don´t even have IMAX in Denmark i payed what you be 22 USD just to see it in 3D, a normal ticket here is 15-20 USD

  • At the moment, I'm not even interested in going to see Avatar. I think the whole story idea is...not very appealing in my opinion.

I'm pretty cynical about a lot of things, but it just makes me think that they're trying to use the whole concept of "another virtual existence" or whatever and trying to make it interesting.

I'll wait for reviews and see what people have to say about it. I also have NO intention of going to see it in IMAX.

  • It's JAMES CAMERON!! Why would you even question not seeing his next epic??!!

  • C'mon, Fury! It's James Cameron doing sci-fi! What could possibly go wrong?

Even his weakest sci-fi film, The Abyss, is extremely well made. All his films are built around compelling stories and feature complex, well-developed characters.

And besides, it be good to see a master filmmaker pursue an original idea of his own creation. To many of the elder statesmen of film these days are too jaded to take such risks. But not Iron Jim.

  • Yeah man, on my site I've been following all that is Avatar. I recently posted a video there that got me pretty excited for the film

  • Really? I will definitely check that out. Thanks, man!

  • I heard in the video you talking about James Cameron, I i went and looked him up. I was surprised. Terminator 1 & 2? Titanic? I couldn't believe he was the one making those, some of the most famous movies there are. I can't believe I didn't know about him earlier. O_o

I've had my eye on this movie for a while, and only a few days ago I finally decided I want to see it, even though I've known about it for a while. And after seeing what movies he has made, I have faith.

  • im going to go see it on the 23rd of dec in imax 3D, i don't care what they fucking say im going to go see it and experience it at the fullest, because whats the reason of going to a movie theater if you aren't going to experience it at the fullest, this film looks awesome and I ain't going to miss an oppurtunity that will go AWAY!

  • ill wait for a while , and then see the movie and make my own opinions on it

  • I'll probably watch it in 3D at the regular theater. Cameron put a lot of time and money into it, the action looks solid, and it looks reminiscent of a live-action Halo which is cool. So its all comes down to the story for me.

  • Since I have unbelievable faint in James Cameron, what I'm gonna do is see the midnight showing in regular 3D at my local theater, which doesn't feature an IMAX screen. If I like the movie or fall in love, with it, I'm gonna see it in IMAX the next day!

  • Why not just see it in imax 3-d the first day?

  • Because the IMAX theater is pretty far away from where I live

  • wow. that's what I'm going to do also.

And I'm pretty sure this is going to be good. This is Cameron's way of saying to his fans "sorry I missed the last 12 years of feature filmmaking guys. Here's an epic, original idea film that encompasses practically everything I have ever made and yet delivers something you've never quite seen before."

    Big props to Iron Jim.

  • I'm only going to see it in theaters if it gets massive acclaim if not I'm wating till dvd.

  • at first the movie seemed to have way too much material for it to be properly told, but now that i know its over 2 hours long im reconsidering that idea.

  • The very fact that you have to tack on a gimmek onto something to make it worth while means that its not worth the inconvenience.

  • we dont have those in Uruguay...

  • If you need a fancy gimmick to sell your movie, it's not that great.

  • Ill be their opening night at an imax 3D theatre :) thanks for the points fury!

  • I'll see anything in IMAX. Hell, I saw The Uninvited in IMAX and it wasn't even suppossed to be shown in that theater. I think IMAX is necessary for some movies, like Transformers 2 and The Dark Knight where certain scenes were shot with IMAX cameras, but if the studio says you should see it in IMAX, I don't think you should ignore that.

  • I don't remember ever hearing Avatar is SUPPOSED to be seen in IMAX.

Even Tom Rothman said at ComiCon that you can see it any format you want an you will be wowed.

I do think it will hold up well on any screen.

BUT, I totally agree that it is cool that Cameron has turned Fox into his little bitch. At the Con this year, Rothman was all in awe of him and was one second away from getting down on his knees and sucking Iron Jim off.

  • One film that I can compare avatar to is hang with me here, Lawrence of Arabia. Lawrence of Arabia is EASILY one of the best films of all time. It is known for its use of filmmaking techniques, directors today can only replicate. However, it is not known for the depth of it's story or characters. I think that if Cameron sticks to the AMAZING effects on awesome story, he won't have to worry about it's depth- sometimes a crazy action movie with good effects is all you need if it is innovative.

  • What pisses me off is that everyone (and I'm guessing these people live in large cities) seems to always forget that not EVERYONE lives anywhere near an Imax screen. The closest screen to me is in either Philly or NYC. And that would make seeing this movie at least a 4 hour round trip on top of all the expenses involved with going to one of these cities.

  • Fuck yes you should go see Avatar. Why wouldn't you want to go see a new science fiction movie that was made with a blank check and a seasoned Director and film crew? The thing about IMAX is that most films featured in IMAX aren't shot on imax film but rather manipulated to screen in IMAX. In this case IMAX is just an expensive gimmick but Avatar was filmed on imax film and designed to be a 3-d imax experience from the beginning. I'm sure at the very least it'll be a fun ride.

  • I live in paris, and the only Imax 3-D theaters around are located within disney land (which is crap compared to the US one), it's one hour for me to get there.

still I intend to make that effort to watch avatar.

this movie was made for I-max, and I don't see the I-max thing as a gimmick, it's more of a new step in cinema history (black and white, soud, technicolor ...) but I have to admit that if the ticket price was that high here maybe I would think otherwise.

  • I will go and see this film in a theater, a director as good as James Cameron should be respected and the fact that he was planning to make this film for such a long time ( 14 years ) makes me already think that this is going to be the movie for decades, a classic in the future. Too bad that I will not be able to see it in IMAX, here it will be shown in 3-D.

  • sorry district 9 was the best of the year

  • The only imax screen in mi country is in the capitol to almos 5 hours from where i live.... i think im gonna wait for the normal screen in the local cinema and see it in matinee hour, im fan of camerons movies, but still, fox is behind this, so i expect too much hipe for a work that will have some value, but not so much because they put their hands on the work. Dam fox, they should take the public opinion, not theirs

  • Sounds like Fox wants TF2 fans with lots of money

  • Great advise Fury but I'm so stoked about this film that I'm turning from green to blue myself.

  • The third one.

  • There is no imax theater in my country let alone near the city i live in. If there was though i would definitely go see it in imax.

  • Hell Yeah! i want to see this movie because

im a big fan of James cameron

  • For me, Avatar is hyped so much, I almost don't want to see it! IF I see it, it will be in a normal theater or on Blu-Ray in my projector home theater. I strongly feel that a movie should not depend on IMAX, nor 3D to be good. I think the story is alpha and omega.

  • fuck, i cant see it in an imax theater but i will see it in 3-D :D

  • The only reason they're pushin this movie so hard and gettin everyone hyped over it is because they've realized this is the first good movie they've made since X2.

  • you need to go out and buy a container of yoghurt and get some more culture in your life if you think that avatar is the first good movie to come out.Bib budget doesnt mean good movie.Thats anamerican way of thinking hence why paul blart mall cop was #1 in cinemas for so long. There are plenty of great low budget, independent and limited releases films out there ,you have to know where to look and dont limit yourself to "mainstream"

  • @70chevynova1

I'm not saying that Avatar is the only good movie ever to be made, just one of Fox's in a long ass time, cause so many of their movies suck hard and this might be the one where they do it right, of course there are dozens of great movies coming out these days from big and independent studios alike, and Paul Blart sucked ass.

  • Then we both agree.Cheers!

  • I couldn't agree with you more regarding films being sold as an IMAX experience, and thats the only way to truly enjoy it and quite frankly, judging by the Avatar trailers, it looks like its going to be a lot of smoke and mirrors... I can't imagine there being a real compelling story there.

  • I will definitely be catching AVATAR on December. I am as hyped for this movie as I was for the Dark Knight but that doesn't mean I strip this film of its merits; James Cameron, great CGI, positive word of mouth from the people who has seen it on IMAX, and its grand scale. I liked most of Cameron's films, so I know I will like this one as well. I will catch this film on IMAX, since it is the BEST way of watching this film as people as been saying.

  • ...Con..

There is nothing wrong with picking the best way to experience something. But I do pray that this movie still has the ability to stand top on regular theaters.

  • People need to know that half the "IMAX" screens out there aren't real IMAX. If it's at a chain like Regal or AMC, then it's probably a digital IMAX, which is only a little bigger than a normal screen. You've gotta go to a specific arena for a real IMAX like a museum. I'm driving 2 hours on opening night just to see this on a real IMAX screen.

  • I honestly can't wait for Avatar. It's a shame, really, that I can't watch it in an Imax theater. I know it's kinda harsh to pay almost twice what you pay in a normal theater to watch it, but hey, I think it's worth it. I watched Dark Knight about 4 times in 2008, and the 4th time was in Imax, and I can honestly say that one was my favorite screening. I think watching films like Avatar in Imax are very well worth it. That being said, I still wouldn't have problems watching it in a normal theater

  • I tested Imax to see if it was really more enjoyable. I saw a movie in a regular theater, then watched it again in Imax.

My experience was that the screen was a little bigger, and there were more speakers. That's it. Maybe I went to a crappy Imax theater, but it really wasn't worth the money for me.

Now the Franklin Institute's Imax... that... is an experience... and if more of those were around, I'd definitely see more movies like that.

  • the theater where i live doesnt even have an IMAX screen and im going opening day:) what are you going to do? watch them both and compare?

  • I'll tell you what can expect to see, an unoriginal story (Pocahontas in space). As for the great visuals, you don't need James Cameron for that.

  • This film is going to be PG13 which is a little worrying

  • what the hell is wrong with it being PG-13?

  • @KillerYandere just because this is what happened with Wolverine and it hindered the storyline.

  • Well James Cameron envisioned this as being PG-13 to begin with. Hell, they're selling toys and children's books about it.

  • Why? Dark Knight was also PG-13, and it was the best movie of 2008, in my opinion.

  • I'll see it but probably in 2D. Most 3D films have I've seen have been fun to see because they're in 3D. Then when you see them in 2D, they're usually crap.

  • I live in Germany and we dont even have that many Imax cinemas, the only one I know is in Munich and I live in cologne which is about 600 kilometers away, that beeing said, the movie is not advertised as an Imax experience here in Germany, I hope it will be an worthwhile experience in either format.

    peace from Germany

  • lol. I'm living right now in Bedburg, near Cologne, as a foreign exchange student. I've been looking forward to this film ever since it was announced, and I'd just LOVE it if I could watch it in Imax. But like you said, there aren't that many here in Germany :P I did my research and there seems to be only like 5 in total in the whole country. Worst thing is that closest Imax to Cologne is in Amsterdam. I was actually thinking about going there just to watch it, but I think it's a bit too much.

  • I will most likely see this film. It doesn't spark exaggerated interest in me though. I highly doubt that it will be even one of the top ten films of this year at least not in quality. It may be the hype that's turning me off to the film. In regard to i max i most likely wont see it in i max. A regular theater will be fine for me. If it cant hold up without the giant screen than its not a good movie.

  • I belive in James Cameron... Hes one of my idols.... I go in blind as long as they say James Cameron is directing it.... I do really hate FOX... But as long as it's him I will :)

  • im exited for your review... thanks for the tips...never seen imax. whats this fox thing your talking about plugging in 'devices'?

  • Fox demanded Gavin Hood, director of Wolverine Origins make changes to his script . One device was how they handled deadpool for his own possible spinoff

  • James Cameron is one of my favored directors. His sense of action is incredible and we waited enought to see him directing an action ( sci-fi one too :)) But i don't like IMAX very much, i mean it's fun but in a dumb kind a way. I want to be entertained by a good story, powerful characters and an awesome action and If Avatar doesn't deliver that i'll be very dissapionted.

  • looks great, and even if the story isnt that great, it will be very entertaining. cameron has shown he knows how to use every penny to make a movie look amazing, and he broke records with the production costs for avatar. so i am expecting something awesome.

  • A Cameron Sci Fi is all the reason I need. I don't care about if it's IMAX, 3D, hyped all to hell, or has a 500 mill budget, as long as it's done well.........and that it soundly destroys New Moons take.

The Dark Knight showed studios that quality over crap brings in the money, that was until New Moon. WE NEED A HIGH QUALITY FILM TO PULL IN THE REALLY BIG BUCKS, because New Moon just gave all the studios permission to put these cheap Tigerbeat type films in the for front...god help us all...!

  • It will look spectacular. Lets hope story is good enough. I will see it for sure.

  • I rarely rush out to see any sort of movie, unless I'm practically confident it's going to be excellent (like if it's done by Pixar, or Quentin Tarantino). James Cameron is one of my favorite directors, minus one movie. I did not enjoy Titanic at all. Not one bit. Not even the climax. I'm gonna maybe wait a week to go see it like I did with Tim Burton after Planet of the Apes came out. I think that if James Cameron can actually direct a film the way he wants under FOX, it may be good

  • I'm going to be first in line at the theatre, but my cheap small town won't get an Imax screen.( They have enough money for two over the top signs that say "Welcome")

  • this movie looks freaking crazy :D

and it comes out on my birthday and i can not wait to see it

  • Personally, I think they are pushing 3D so much because it is much harder to bootleg. Anyway, I love what I've seen of Avatar. I want to preorder my tickets, though IMAX is a little iffy for me.

  • I saw A Christmas Carol and I saw the Avatar trailer in Imax 3D and I was blown away! I didn't know anything about this movie except a couple articles in Entertainment Weekly that were talking about it. Now that I have seen the trailer, I kinda understand what it's about. While the trailer showed all of the movies that James Cameron did, I started to get a little nervous. I wasn't the biggest Terminator fan and Titanic had an awesome climax but the rest was kinda dull. I'll see it I guess

  • Not sure about IMAX, but I do believe that proper, working, non headache-making 3D will be the next leap forward in cinema generally. We went from black & white to colour to widescreen... silent to sound to stereo to Dolby/THX... so yes, I'll pay my 20 bucks to go see Avatar, to see where cinema's going technologically. Though I couldn't make head or tail of anything resembling a story from the trailer...

  • i'm definetely gonna see it. the new trailers look epic, and i have faith in cameron (he's a fellow canadian after all). as for seeing it in imax, i'm not sure. where i live there is only one imax theatre, and it's at a science centre, so i'm not even sure if they'll be playing it.

  • I want to see it because I'm the kind of guy that likes innovation. Plus, I think it looks awesome as it is, 2D or 3D. I havn't seen a movie at the IMAX since Monters Vs. Aliens in March. So excited! But I also believe, as you have too Fury, that this movie shouldn't permenately set the standard for cinema. Some movies actually work best in 2D, because 3D focuses more on the spectacle and the prespective the viewer watches it in. Alot of movies would be best to leave in 2D alone, like comedies.

  • I don't like those front seats.. I mean sure they are worth $20 each but.. it .. just isn't viewable there.

  • I'm gonna follow his track record but I'm probably gonna wait a few weeks and see it in my local cinema given that I don't have an Imax theater anywhere close to my house. But given that he has created one of my favorite Sci-Fi movies (T2) I have complete and total faith in the man to definately deliver a good movie

  • i will be apart of the hype with and with james camerons track record. i mean i was the hype when the dark knight came out.

  • I'm not sure at this point. I'll make up my mind cloder to release.

  • i have absolute faith in james cameron, i mean he's been working on this movie since 1995. just look at the trailers, it focuses not only on the special effects, but on characters as well. the whole imax angle, in my opinion, is gonna be like the delicious icing on a multi-tier cake. i wont have the option of going to imax, but my theater does support 3-d, which is good enough for me.

  • GREAT stuff fury. I personally believe that this will be the best movie since the Dark Knight, and the most technologically revolutionary movie since Terminator 2.

I agree that Avatar in 3D is beyond amazing, but James Cameron knows how to tell a story. So I like to believe that even the people who see it in 2D will walk out of the theatre like a kid coming off of a roller coaster and be like "Lets go again".

  • i think that this film is overhyped i realy whant to see it but people i have talked to have told me this film will change movies forever there acting like james camron is stanely kubrick and avatar is 2001. with that said i still want to see it im just not on the hype wagon

  • LOL "you're screwed" if you get the front seats XD but I'm gonna play a trick on my dad by saying who the director is and see if he still has faith in James C., since he loves Titanic XP

  • I will fucking see it, no question about it. This movie looks fucking amazing, and really deserves to be a blockbuster.

  • I have Faith In Cameron, he has a brilliant mind for Story telling.

  • I don't know if I will see it in Imax, but this is more to do with money cost than movie quality. If I can I will, but either way, I am seeing this film in 3D no question!

  • IMAX is some ways away so I will watch it in normal theaters.

  • it is not the fact that Fox are advertising Avatar as the be all end all 3D movie that worries me, the latest trailer that premiered online about a few weeks ago that pretty much exposed the main story elements to the film that concerns me.

i will still see this movie on the merit that James Cameron has made some of my favorites films from the likes of the Terminator and Aliens. I am going into this expecting same quality as those classics.

  • i will be going to see it. it looks amazing

  • james camerons best = abyss THE DIRECTORS CUT

  • Hell yeah I'm going to see it!

  • James Camron won me over with T2 and since then I've had faith in him and his abilities to tell stories so I'm following him on the 18th!

  • Where I live there is one theater with 3D but no IMAX. I plan to see Avatar twice. Once in 3D and once in regular 2D.

  • I'll wait for the hype to die down...

  • Nice one, Fury. I just did a review of the Terminator films in honor of the upcoming release of Avatar.

  • First!!! Hell Yeah!!!
