Tesco don't give a damn about anyone or anything when it comes to a new shop being constructed, they put even less thought into how the heck the delivery artics get anywhere near to deliver without causing grief to their own customers and drivers.
Tesco have now withdrawn from discussions with Glasgow Harbour on the South Street site. They hopes for Beith Street have, apparently, received a boost from somewhere high up at Glasgow City Council. Confirmation of this is being sought but they would have to be sure of a deal if they are giving the Harbour the cold shoulder.
I hear that tesco wont be building on this land anymore and have opted to build at the new Glasgow harbour across the road, I think if that is true it will have just the same affect on partick shops at the new site as it would have done on this site. What happens now? will this land now sit as an eye sore for years? was all of the protests just a waste of time????
the fact is, if we let companies demolish and build new buildings on top of any historical buildings then: there wont be many left, the city/town would be dominated by (evil?) cheap stores, good history would go too waste and it would look very out of proportion. aren't there enough other places to build that dont involve destroying heritage????!!!!
i think u should all stop moaning, Tesco wouldnt be allowed to knock down a buliding without the permission of the council? complain to them. And Tesco do alot more for the environment and community than the rest of the less successful supermarkets
Damn, I thought this kinda crap only went on in the US. How historically important was that old Railway station? I mean I'm hearing some good arguments from both sides and granted I'm a US citizen and this won't effect me in anyway, it just sucks to hear of any historical building being smashed just so a modern day mega-mart can go up. If what mattcube said is true, someone over there has it out for England's historic sites!
Yes, but at what cost? The only jobs they put back into the community is when they close down local shops and then re-employ the redundant shopkeepers at minimum wage. The small shops can't screw the suppliers like Tesco can, that's why Tesco's prices are so low. There is more to life than paying as little as possible for your shopping. I would say to anyone who disagrees - how would YOU like it if Tesco took over your trade, put you out of work & then offered to employ you at £5.52 per hour?
well, its well-knows practice to build a new building around the old one, like Victoria station in London. Tesco's stupid :( tht looks like one nice station!
Tesco did not give Scotrail and Historic Scotland a chance to work on the building. Oh the Antiques Warehouse that this building used to house is now at South St Whiteinch.
Hope TESCO does not get in to Partick that would suck the area allready has a Morrisons, Sainsburys M&S and Somerfield so TESCO can just get the f*** out of Partick these stores are far more better.
While I disagree with what Tesco is doing, the building had stayed there empty and decaying for years, it appeared unloved. Good Use should have been made of it or it was inevitable it would be lost eventually, a bit like Brighton West Pier.
No, this tesco hasn't been built yet - it has not even been given planning permission for it yet. thats why people where so pissed - the railway station building was one of the many reasons we didn't want bloody tescos in partick. that, and they're gits.
AN historic building. Grammar, please!

It's a pity you couldn't see that it was a handsome old building, worth saving.
