To me .. this just shows the good ol southern heart.. and yeah that my sound weird... as you yankees walk past each other without even a Howdie, or even a grumpy southerner will say.. murrnin... MERRY CHRISTMAS ALL!!!
@hippyamp Hi-Yo There Hippyamp, Gilligan (aka: Bob Denver) had this job as a street sweeper and sewer inspector befor leaving Mayberry to become a cruise director for Cheap Trips & Cruises.
Bless you all; I need to get back to Horse Gap, and to Bold Camp before I die. Will any of you "Melogeons" go up on Red Onion Mountain with me and help me gather 'sang. (If none of your relatives are Mullins, Bakers, or Stallards, and you don't know how to walk from High Knob to the Devil's Bathtub... ignore all of this)
I dd not realize Bob Dever played a part in the Andy Griffith show. After a little research, I figured out why. This is the episode called "Divorce, Mountain Style.
He was playing the part of Dud Wash, Charlene's husband. The orginal Dud Wash was played by Hoke Howell. Have no idea why he was replaced for this episode.
That is Bob Denver alright. I just did not ever remember him being in an episode of Andy Griffith. It must have beena small role. If someone had of told me he was in one, I would have probably argued with them.
before gilligan worked on a tour boat in ca.he grew up in mayberry nc.he used to court the darling girl.she later got knocked up by a guy named dud wash back in 1960.gilligan moved to the west coast got a job with jonas grumby he owned a small tour boat service.the rest is history.
Things were all together better back then T.V. was clean, Music was clean, The internet didn't exist and bring all its problems, children knew what disipline was and people had more compassion for their friends and neighbors. I wouldn't mind it to go back in time and live there forever.
stadalberts, in the first episode with The Darlings, you do hear the jugging. Rodney Dillard (guitar player) didn't like it, so they silenced it thereafter.
Oh yeah on BILE them cabbage down. I never made the connection before between Denver Pyle and Bob Denver. Were they related? Bluegrass is awesome and some of the most gifted musicians in the world, most untrained, just gifted.
in reality the dillards were tentative about the image were portraying. they did not want viewers to think southern folks are "hillbillies" in a sense. once they performed on the show their fears were put to ease. what a great show!
@Mega1eddie I know country folk like them in Southern Indiana. Pike County specifically. The truth is most country folks are by and large decent folks. Sure you have snakes in the country too like you have them in the city. What I like about the country way of thinking is that it is relational. In the Big City people are known by what they do. In the country they are known by who they are related to.
sure do miss Don Knotts and Denver Pyle. Mr Darling is also Uncle Jesse from the Dukes of Hazzard show. Two great classic shows that are WAYbetter than the crud on tv today. I still watch both Andy and the Dukes
It has been my experience that people who are always "knocking" country folk are some of the most miserable people I have ever met, and in reality, they would kill to have the close knit family life most country folk have.
@NokneesLooney why you say country people are miserable. i grew up in the bluridge mountians and i am not misrable at all. we watch out for eachother. its like a mob but u aint got to kill people
@redneckjwillo - reread my comment. Country folk are not the miserable ones...it is the people who are always making fun of them...which are normally money obsessed types. I myself grew up in Michigan, but my family are all from KY and southern IL....I LOVE the south!
@NokneesLooney I think that often the reaction isn't against country folk. It's against, "country folk" as represented by politicians for political gain. Real people are a lot more complex than what's often served up to us by modern country music and politicians as some ideal of what we should be. In my experience, the real thing is often the OPPOSITE of what goes into political speeches.
jennifer082255, they didn't get rid of Don Knotts. Quite the contrary, they would have much rather he stayed. Knotts left the show because he thought Andy was going to do it for only five years, so he started looking for movie contracts, which he got through Universal (I b'lieve it'was). Knotts could have gone back to the Griffith Show, but he had already agreed to make movies.
Can someone please tell me how to transfer this video to my MP3 player. I tried watching videos telling how to do so, but I still cant seem to be able to. If someone can help me,I would greatly appreciate it.
I watched my grand daughter view the comedy in todays tv programs....she just stared at the tv....I put on some old Andy Griffith and she came alive and laughed from her heart....a few years before that I noticed the same thing with the modern day cartoons...she just stared at the tv.....then I put on some of the old cartoons that had some humor and she laughed......don't ever try to tell me we have progressed with our tv programming.
I can't agree more. It's sad that today there's hardly a show on television at all worth watching, and most of it is pure filth. I'm 20 years old and even I am repulsed by my generation's poor taste. I say stick to the old path...watch Andy Griffith and listen to the talented Dillards!
So true and such a shame. I still enjoy watching it and will never get tired of it. They made a mistake by getting rid of Don Knotts and putting it in color.
