  • Hawt! lol

  • Only one thing to say... Adam Clayton has the hottest hair in the world:)

  • u2 pop the worst record in history

  • Bright Background.

    U2- Oscillating- Outstanding,

    1979- Different World- Another Planet.

    Lost Silent Planet.

  • sono i miglioriiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii

  • i think they were better in the early years

  • Sono Bono and the boys were pieces of crap even way back then:

  • the old u2 is the best, don't you think?

  • When I watch U2, I cant hear the Clash influence, can anyone else?

  • Comment removed

  • @PBANDSNOW Yes! I can too!

  • I'm reading about early U2 at the moment and their early performances, first gig etc. I didn't realise this song and Street Mission would be so good considering how they portrayed themselves back then...wow

  • I'm reading about the early U2 at the moment and their early performances. I didn't realise this song and Street Mission would be so good...wow

  • Wow! Bono can't lip-synch!!! his voice is still going but his lips aren't moving!

  • This is actually really good. It's got the standard 4 - part pop structure; it's actually pretty catchy. I guarantee you if weren't judging this relative to their later material, you'd think this is good, which it is; it's just a bit more abstract. I really like it.

  • Bono was a pretentious little prick even back in the day! Not a bad song apart from his shoite vocals!

  • I've never heard this song! and I'm supossed to be a huge fan

  • OMG the old U2!

    Never seen this! Very funny!

  • I didn't even born that year :)

  • this is where the idea for the video to 'get on your boots' came from :)

  • my god i was 5 that time

  • I love U2 so much. But i'm so glad they stopped writing songs like this!

  • its a good song but that last riff is terrible!

  • They likes to beatles

  • They STILL haven't sang this song live!

  • it's powerful but hm... Bono couldn't sing then :D

  • HAHA! oh my goodness!

  • LoL, what nobody had the heart to tell them it wasn't 1967 ? WTF w/the colored oil and water on a projector thing in the BG.

  • *led

  • I wish they wouldve done more of THIS, but i love them anyway... im just saying, this is wouldve let to some shit from another planet!

  • CRRRRRINGE!!!!!

  • @Stereotype23

    lmao

  • oh i love it!!!

  • nice, thanks for posting!

  • Merveilleux morceau inédit,période post-"Boy",

    excellent !

  • "Life on a Distant Planet"? Haha I heard that U2 was influenced a lot by David Bowie, more like "Life on Mars?" am I right?

  • @Meguhand :

    Yes x)

    Bono liked very much Bowie.

When he was young (Bono) thought that the title of the album "Hunky Dory" was the name of a duo like Simon & Garfunkel. He discovered then that he was the name of the album and David Bowie was the artist... xD

  • You gotta start somewhere right? This is from a demotape from 1979. Of course the stuff from the 80's is better, but this is really interesting.

  • It is interesting to be able to track a band from their start. I have demos and other rare recordings from most of the bands I've been following for decades, including U2 and Bowie.

You can't really track bands today because they seem to come polished, sterile, and boring right out of the mainstream box. Not that I'd care to follow any of them. The last band I faithfully followed was the Pixies. Before that Joy Division.

Having been born in the 60's had its benefits. We cared about music.

  • well of coarse it was idiot

  • haha this is better than "street mission"

  • I think Bono looks like Robbie Coltrane

  • They really were a great new wave/punk band.

  • quality rock

  • I think this is an awesome song actually. shoulda been a 'BOY' deluxe edition bonus track

  • Check how strange it is to hear a hint of "Beautiful Day" at 2:55

  • Wow ... that is really weird.

  • haha, yeah just a lil bit, good call

  • well spotted!

  • @Enardo7 yeah I hear it too.

  • did they make a album of all there early songs like this one, and street missions, etc.... ? cuz im kinda diggin this

  • nope. There's only a fan-made one, called 'Children of the Revolution, U2 demos 78-79'.

  • robin williams..... lmao!....and adams bet lynch!

  • Adam's bass is so bad-ass great!

  • looks like a record company stage make up. I'm glad they shook the choker and went their way.

  • I think they look fab!!!!

  • I have to agree with tacosontheceiling. Robin Williams looks like he could be Bono's silly and far less handsome cousin. This is great. I enjoy David Bowie-esque Bono here.

  • I would really love it if people would STOP saying that Bono looks like Robin Williams. He's a great and hilarious actor and all, but Bono is about a zillion times more gorgeous.

  • Good job on floating your opinion out there but.........with a name like tacosontheceiling, you probably won't find many people who take you serious :0)......

  • PAHAHHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHHAHAHAHHA

  • THANKS FOR POSTING!!

I havent heard this is 20 years or more!

I had "driving to midnight mass, a bootleg ep with this and some other great stuff, including the spoken-word title track. But yeah, he looks funny.

  • Spot the sense of humour bypass. (See below).

  • Nah, can't see that this group have much potential.........

  • I see what you mean. They´ll probably never gonna make it big xD

    just beeing ironic

  • they mimed

  • I slowly rubbed my clit to this video

  • AHAHAHAHA! then u should watch "i will follow"! LOL.

  • Bono has always looed like robin williums to me.he looks like mork from ork.

  • He looks increasingly like Robin Williams with age. Robin Williams said people keep telling him he looks like Bono....actually Robin Williams' looks have changed little, and he's 8 years older than Bono.....so Bono looks like *him*.

  • That's funny...I remember in about 1983-85ish, I had a 8x10 concert photo of Bono on my wall, and my mom walked in, pointed at it, and asked, why do you have a picture of Robin Williams?"

Personally, I don't think Bono is as hairy as Robin ;)

  • Woaw this is terrible and im a HUGE fan of U2, but you can hear all their future albums shining through in this song lol :D

  • How did Edge play guitar with those purple gloves on?

  • I have no clue!

  • Poor Bono. He didn't have a hair brush.

  • At the time it was that kind of fashion.... with the hair. ^^ glad I don't live in that time.

  • I had "big hair" then, too. It seemed a good idea at the time. LOL!

  • it got a good flow

  • AHHH! Now this is the good stuff! Much better than POP and their new album!

  • Really funny!!!

  • why wasn't this and 'street mission' included on the bonus material to the remastered 'Boy'?

  • because this was b4 boy dis is 1979

  • boy was released 1980 so it should have been included in the bonis material

  • probably never recorded in a studio

  • a Comat Angels rip-off for sure.

  • Did you mean the Comsat Angels? Anyway U2 would have to have been fast to rip-off a band that released their first EP in 1979 and doing so in the same year. It's all just post punk, of course it's similar.

  • you mean why did Michael Jackson copy U2 with the gloves!

  • why are they wearing Michael Jacksonish gloves?

  • Nevermind that, what the fuck is Bono wearing and what the fuck is this song?

  • I want to buy this!!!

  • those irish bastards delayed their new lp to 2009! they're my fave band i am not ripping on them lol. it just bums me out. bono says they've written over 50 songs for the lp. so how about a double album or 2 lp's next year?

  • Man I am with you on that!! A triple album would be better - or a D.V.D to go with it! And a felt apology for the delay XD

  • Go Boy!! so hot. he should bust with this look again... GREAT!!!

wait, i think I will bust out with Bonos Look!!

  • laduran, FOAD.

  • jajajaja! Oh my God!!! That is great! Never heard this song and never saw bono with that kind of haircut... me partoooooooooo, como se mueve!!! :D

  • God... Bono with a fringe... this takes me back... well, to an era twelve years before my birth...

  • Hard to imagine them back then. Still living with their parents probably and with no money.

  • But one thing never changed. They still believe, that they can change the world, and i love them because of it!

  • is this song available in any cd format recording? is it true that the pre-"Boy" material will be appear on the forthcoming deluxe edition of "Boy"? If you know anything about these questions please tell me

  • this won't be on the reissue, but it should, it's a catchy tune. there's some glaring omissions. the 'war' bonus tracks look a bit disappointing also, way too many remixes.

  • Oh my god! Wonderfully! U2 very young! To Guys is nineteen years!

  • Amazing!!! love it...abaut the new stuff wait people wait...

  • They've transformed in so many ways over the years.

  • bono vox's vocals are really cool too on this fine track of strange and early track.

  • This is SO much better than Joshua Tree.

  • Nah! But it does show their progression from great to sublime! in my opinion no offense!

  • petheadd17: You are so right! U2 pulled it together with lightening speed, and got great fast! Around the 2:19 mark you can really hear "Joy Divisions" influence. These days Edge doesn't borrow from anyone.

  • Yes! The effect must have worn off on them because they shared the same recording studio as Joy Division in the early days! But they soon started incorporating many different ideas they are quite versatile really!

  • petheadd17: U2 doesn't sound like anybody but U2 these days. Their sound is a distant planet away from everybody else...

  • :) true! Once Edge realised his proficiency of the guitar under his own steam i think it let his own style shine through! It's still amazing to hear this though!

  • Edge is a guitar God! I'm so grateful that Daniel Lanois & Brian Eno will be at the helm of the new album. I think they bring out the beauty and complexity of U2's talent better than anyone else.

  • Really Daniel and Brian are fronting it wow! I thought it was Rick Rubin, i'm supposed to be a fan! Thanks for telling me!

  • Petheadd17: The new album is taking a long winding road to completion. U2 started working last year with Rick Rubin in LA, but U2 bumped into Daniel Lanois & Brian Eno at Cannes last fall and ran away to Morroco to do some recording with them that had a middle eastern flare to it. All of that work has since been plowed under to seed the ground for the next stage of delvelopement. The lesson with U2 is patience+ struggle=better albums. I want them to get it right.

  • Ah! now i understand! Hope all of that pain-staking effort is worth it! although you have to say they rarely dissapoint us! And with all those explemplary producers on board there's bound to be some magical moments to savour! logging off now! but iv'e sent you a friend invite if that's ok!

  • i find it torturous waiting so long for a new lp. i wish they'd put out a big double lp one of these days, like the white album or something. 11 or 12 songs doesn't seem like enough when it's a 4 year wait!

  • Let's light candles and pray for a double album! lol...

Honestly, I'd choose quality over quantity any day--how about another Achtung Baby? It could happen....

  • redjaguar2, i sent you a friend invite, and as far as i can see you haven't rejected it, i can fully understand if you want to, but the suspense is killing me!

  • petheadd17 I got a server incompatible notice! All messages were returned to me. Sorry! I'm at work...

  • KENVAIL: Amen to that, I want more U2 for my money! Can't wait for the new re-releases of their old work either. XD

  • Wow! Don't stay up too late boys, its a school night!

  • ah! that's cute! :)

  • haha - it's the rehearsal for PopMart 18 yrs prior!

  • Wow. they've got a great sense of fashion.

  • thanks for posting this.

U2 straight out of the garage! great stuff!

  • wow i really dont know what to say.Its like elvis/prince/and michael jackson put together.

  • Wish I could find this anywhere else. Great song, made it my V-Log. :)

  • awesome! is this song available for download anywhere?!

  • Wow holy shit wow

  • how many bands have had the same lineup from when they were 17 years old to their late 40's? they must be tight friends to stay together that long.....this is a trip to watch!

  • u2 indeed, i like it already!

  • what album was this song on??

    please reply

  • This song was not in any album...

  • come to think of it i don't think U2 made it a single either...

  • Manic Street Preachers' 'Interiors' sounds a bit like this in parts

  • You can see The Edge's style starting to develope.

  • I read that Edge´s Style wennt that way because the bass strings on his explorer didn´t have an good sound so he just played the trebles

  • Did Bono ever look young? His face always looked like it started off at 25.

  • I heard this is on their new album ;)

  • You're havin a laugh? haha

  • That big screen in the Back...it was PopMart already 1979 :-D

  • i'm a big U2 fan. I always wonder if i would be a fan if i got to knwo them with that :P

  • A psychadelic garage version of U2! its a bit like a cross between "Forbidden Planet" and "Barbarella" but without Jane Fonda!-also looks like Sir Bono resurrected that style of leather jacket for the Vertigo era, a nod to the early days, or maybe he was running low on his wardrobe?

  • haha, they were right! they did suck back then!

  • I wonder if Bono and the gang ever look at this stuff and laugh at themselves...

  • lol probably

  • the "lol probably" i said was a response to MrFurious013. nickzedd can go screw a dog

  • He does already, his Mother =).

  • i would give you a nice hi-five, but the screen is in the way. that was nice

  • I'll just give you a thumbs up instead =D

  • works for me.

  • True, but he was partially right. This was pretty awful. But it was leading up to the great songs we know U2 for now. But they did do well to imitate some of those bands that did that kind of music originally.

  • You make a good point

  • Wow,Adam's got the look down.Two tone sweater,big glasses & hair.I love it!!!

  • Im a massive U2 fan. But this isn't good, haha.

  • i love u2.... but this song is terrible!....hehehe

    funny video

  • This is cool, right before they discovered thier signature sound we know and love today .. Edge would soon discover the Delay pedal, and it all history from there

  • 0__0 pretty colours..

  • Definitely a post 60s psychedelic/pop/punk sound and look here. U2 has always been ahead of their time musically.

  • Ya gotta love Bono's BLUE GLOVES! Nice....

  • Cool,more of these rarities keep popping up.This is actually a cool piece,love Edge's sound(of course,lol).

  • i think Edge actually wrote this song

  • Hilarious! Almost as funny as the "I Will Follow" clip.

Some very interesting guitar licks and bass/drum in there. Mayeb U2 should go back and listen to some of this very early stuff and rework some of it into new material. Couldn't hurt.

  • this is my favorite song by U2

  • cool, go larry!

  • You gotta start somewhere!

  • wow, smoke and boxes. that is too funny.

  • Hahahaha! This is so funny, but I love it!I will always love U2 no matter how bad their hair is no matter how old they are and no matter how funny they sound.

  • I Just Love this Part of U2 at the Moment...Judith can You Hear me?....The Best...

  • love u2

that might have been in the best album with rest of first demo

    what da fuck

  • they should release a rarities album

  • it might have been called that when 'he' wrote it (didn't U2 write all their songs in the early days as a band?) but there are documents kept from the Eamon Andrews demo sessions that have "Magic carpet" listed. there are also existing setlists from 1979 that have the song with that title.

  • the correct title of this song is "The magic carpet", it was on their second demo tape from 1978

  • Actually if you read U2 By U2, Edge say's he wrote a song called "Life On A Distant Planet"

  • Oh my, I love this song so much! I had a copy of it somewhere but I lost it. Thanks for posting this wonderful vid!

  • milan 2005, not the same, just "remastered" jejeje
