I'm apart of the Beta. its pretty amazing. the game is quiet hardware heavy and everything a hardcore Gamer wants in an MMORPG. This is Alpha of the game being recorded. 100% confirmed that this will be for PS3! but not until next year sadly. At the moment it is debatable whether or not This game will be released for xbox, due to hardware present in the system (not to start arguements with "Console kiddys") Won't be able to handle this game in a minimum of 720p.

seems to me like they were on a quest to kill a certain amount of Dodoes and pucks, other than that... looks great, but they need to work out on how your character stops when you tell it to stop cus it looks like they were ice skating.
I really hope they increase the pace of combat. The delay looks as slow as FFXI. Watching your character stand there for several seconds doing nothing gets old. =/
on the ps3 vs PC, ps3 uses a lightweight OS and won't have hogware clogging it up, it's not all about optimization, it's about running a clean platform so you have less power used up by other crap.
You need a PC and a ps3 anyways for all the good games. the only console you don't need is a SuXbox, unless you want halo 3 and nothing else.
Sadly, no leveling isn't and won't be there. however you will spent time skilling up and improving your weapons and character. Just think of it as FF-X which makes sense but at the same time kinda sucks i loved FFXI for leveling and partying. in FFXI was all about best gear and you call straight out tell who is well geared and who isn't. still we shall see what it'll bring to the table
Anyone who plays games like this on a PC, like myself. Go download a program called Game Booster, by Iobit. It temporarily shuts down unnecessary background process while you play game that require lots of power. You just open it up and click the button to put you into "gaming mode" then when you are done playing, just click it again to return to "normal mode" It's great.

i dno about the turn based attacks....it works well in regular rpg games since ur controller 3+ characters but as for mmo ur only controlling one? turn based for 1 character? that seems harsh...
For a game like this, I'm going to have to say PC > PS3. I don't have a PS3 but even if I did I would play on my Computer. I feel limited when I use a console for games like this. What I found works really well is using a USB controller (like 360 remote on a PC) so you get the console feel, but can still use things like the keyboard, mouse, hotkeys, etc.
I suppose you could just use a keyboard on the PS3, but w/e lol

imo, consoles are always limited. PC's can be upgraded. If my Laptop isn't enough for a smooth FFXIV experience, I can run out and buy a better video card. The only way to upgrade a PS3 is to break it open
You can upgrade the Hard drive without breaking it open, but thats the only thing. BUT the hardware that is in the PS3 is currently top of the line so it will be a few years before graphics will be limited at all.
Iiii don't think that's quite accurate. The computer version of the game always plays better than the console. In terms of graphics and looks. If your talking about fluidity in the game play it self, then that's dependant on the type of computer you have, ISP and internet connection speed.
Name a computer then under $2k that can run any game as well as the ps3 can. Gateway FX gaming laptop (mine) runs games almost flawlessly...until you compare them to my PS3 (which cost 1/3 the price). AC 1 ran fine on both until the fight sequences where the computer was slightly slow at times compared to the PS3. As I said, as it stands right now, the PS3 is better than most computers (unless you go way past $6k which is ridiculous)

And I think the Gateway FX720 could run XIV if you swap out the 8800 default video card for a 9800, or better yet super clocked version. I played crysis on medium settings a year ago with that shit. Only costs around 1k.
No doubt it could run FF14, but once again, compared side by side with a PS3, the PC would be slightly slower at times. Now, if one were to take and delete all unnecessary programs and tools from their computer until they were left with only what is needed to run FF14, then the PC would probably perform faster. As it stands; however, PC's have more data to process from various different programs that HAVE to run for the PC to function. This is an advantage the PS3's don't have. Still, PC ftw.
Agreed. Every time I play a processor intensive game I usually hit Ctrl. Alt. Delete and shutdown any unnecessary running programs, like explorer.exe.

first of all 50% of people that are gaming on a pc are probably not buying a pre-built computer. they're probably custom built with better graphics card and a better system in all than a ps3. my ps3 aint shit compared to the graphics my pc can put out and it didnt cost over 1grand

Here's the trouble with online here, large shipping costs. For example, I could a $45 HD online, but the shipping is almost $30 without taxes added to either. OR I could go and buy the same HD for $60 from a store. My statement still stands however. You won't find a PC cheaper than a PS3 that runs like a PS3.
PS3 and 360s are essentially mid-range computers in terms of Processing power and Graphics. Of course you'll spend more on a good PC than you will on the consoles, but you can do a HELL of a lot more with a PC than the consoles, and you also have the advantage of not having to go out and buy whole new systems when technology changes.
@BackdoorSub7 impossible the ps3 has dual quad core processors running at 4.0 ghz speed and nvidea 512 mb graphics card sure your graphics card may match but your computer has nowhere near the ram and computing power a ps3 has while you may have the hardware there isn't pc software support for it yet...I mean c'mon it has 6 gigs of ram running at 1022 mhz speed as well that's pretty ridiculous for 300 bucks

The PS3 has a the power of 3.2ghz of processing and an amazing graphics card. The graphics card that would be comparable on a PC would run $150+ and the CPU would run $150+ that doesn't include everything else needed to run a PC.
@chickensaurusrex711 Every PS3 uses the exact same base hardware, so they can spend a ton of time optimizing an engine for it. They can't do it as specifically with a PC engine. Period. A console can pump out beautiful scenes and cost less, there's no arguing the other way... unless one wants to be entirely wrong.

You can also get a quad core processor amd athlon 2.4ghz for under $94 also. Than you can get 4gb ddr2 ram for under $60 and a decent hard drive for about $50 than spend another $100 on the rest of the parts and you will be able to play crysis while a ps3 wont be able to

@Pro902 Well considering the PS3 is years old. At launch the PS3 had one of the fastest video cards on the market in it, along with games correctly exclusively programmed to take full advantage of the cell processor. The PS3 is still a beast. Look at some of the exclusives just starting to come out on the PS3. They're properly designed for it. And they all kill anything on the xbox. Uncharted 2, undoubtedly the best game out. Looks beautiful. Really the system is just starting to take off.
@BackdoorSub7 Well bro I agree with you for the most part, a PS3 would be the cheapest way to go for quality gaming. Especially this one. But my desktop runs games better than my PS3 and I only have $950 dumped in the case itself. It is cheaper to go the route of the PS3. I don't recommend gaming laptops to anyone. Hard to keep a laptop updated. and the cost isn't worth it. Desktop PC's are easier to keep up to date by replacing parts at a time. and much more affordable.

They probably don't have all the animations in yet, nor i hope is it running at its full speed, because it seems that the fighting is even slower then FFXI. Or i haven't played in such a long time i forgot how slow it really was. ^^

(Help Me Out!) I have a question about the battle system. I hear it's not just sitting still while you watch your character hit the A.I to death anymore. Is this true? If so, to what extent is this truth pulled, meaning is it like lets play devil may cry hit X Y to do a combo, or in a sense, keep pressing X mash on that enemy? I'll keep looking this up, thanks in advance for answers.
i think the website said it was command attacks simular to older final fantasy but dosnt allow you to do nothing its supposed to make the game more fun...the bosses may be easyer...

Square are planning to release it for the 360 (not that i would play it on a 360) - they are having problems working out with m$ the xbox live gold policy (ie square dont want ppl to pay 2 subs to play their game) - although the release version will almost definately be ps3 and pc only -
Hiromichi Tanaka has commented that this is the main reason there will not be xbox 360 at launch (you can verify the citation wiki>ffxiv)

@DanSkoglund91 On the contrary, the only thing the 360 can compare to is memory retention. It loses flat out to processing power (which I think was a little obvious to begin with). As with computers, you can't slap on rims to a beat up honda and call it a fancy car. The whole package has to be new and improved. Thats whats required when you want to play a next gen game. Microsoft is just focusing on adding rims to their 360 (Natal etc) when they need a brand new system.
@efknight - agreed on PS3 vs XBOX360 ( memory retention i assume you mean the 10mb of eDRAM that acts as a buffer for the GPU) - The PS3's crowning glory and saving grace though has to be Blu Ray - M$ were crazy to go with a DVD format but hey ho - they on a 10 year life cycle so dont expect to see XBOX720 or whatever for a few years yet! - Incedentally, there is little difference in hardware between the 2 consoles, the PS3 CPU has excelent bandwidth tho (but its GPU is nvidia 7 series based!)

Final Fantasy XI wasnt really regarded as an experiment (unless you count 7 years of successfully taking subscription fees and developing new content an 'experiment"). It still has 2 millions subscribers - 7 years after release. That is no mean feat in the MMO world. The gameplay and unique job system seem to have kept people playing, despite the last gen graphics. Maybe you would class that as failing horribly....
Yeah FFXI managed to hook me for about 3 good years. But then I realized I wouldn't be able to get the shit I wanted to get done in a timely fashion because you have to rely too heavily on people in that game and work around their schedules to do shit. Eventually that shit took its toll on me and after 2 75 jobs and still not being able to get COP storyline done I said to hell with it and canceled. That shit has turned me off to MMO's in general, FF is still my shit though as a series.

I don't know who gave you a thumbs down, resulting in a -1, but I'm going to give you a thumbs up making it 0. What Kaous10 has stated is true. FFXI depends to much on parties. I've played FFXI for six years and you end up doing a lot of meaningless shouts for parties, missions, and even simple quest that might require a few extra people. Not everyone is helpful in the MMO world. It's hard to get anything especially sky, dynamis, HNM, Sea, anything really.. without the right group of people.
@bristolmatt28 last I checked FFXI clocked in at 500,000 subscribers, Not 2 mil. Don't get me wrong FFXI was my favorite MMO even today but lets not exaggerate for the sake of argument.

action looks kind of slow.
on the ps3 vs PC, ps3 uses a lightweight OS and won't have hogware clogging it up, it's not all about optimization, it's about running a clean platform so you have less power used up by other crap.
You need a PC and a ps3 anyways for all the good games. the only console you don't need is a SuXbox, unless you want halo 3 and nothing else.

Sadly, no leveling isn't and won't be there. however you will spent time skilling up and improving your weapons and character. Just think of it as FF-X which makes sense but at the same time kinda sucks i loved FFXI for leveling and partying. in FFXI was all about best gear and you call straight out tell who is well geared and who isn't. still we shall see what it'll bring to the table

Anyone who plays games like this on a PC, like myself. Go download a program called Game Booster, by Iobit. It temporarily shuts down unnecessary background process while you play game that require lots of power. You just open it up and click the button to put you into "gaming mode" then when you are done playing, just click it again to return to "normal mode" It's great.

For a game like this, I'm going to have to say PC > PS3. I don't have a PS3 but even if I did I would play on my Computer. I feel limited when I use a console for games like this. What I found works really well is using a USB controller (like 360 remote on a PC) so you get the console feel, but can still use things like the keyboard, mouse, hotkeys, etc.
I suppose you could just use a keyboard on the PS3, but w/e lol

You can upgrade the Hard drive without breaking it open, but thats the only thing. BUT the hardware that is in the PS3 is currently top of the line so it will be a few years before graphics will be limited at all.

Iiii don't think that's quite accurate. The computer version of the game always plays better than the console. In terms of graphics and looks. If your talking about fluidity in the game play it self, then that's dependant on the type of computer you have, ISP and internet connection speed.

Name a computer then under $2k that can run any game as well as the ps3 can. Gateway FX gaming laptop (mine) runs games almost flawlessly...until you compare them to my PS3 (which cost 1/3 the price). AC 1 ran fine on both until the fight sequences where the computer was slightly slow at times compared to the PS3. As I said, as it stands right now, the PS3 is better than most computers (unless you go way past $6k which is ridiculous)

And I think the Gateway FX720 could run XIV if you swap out the 8800 default video card for a 9800, or better yet super clocked version. I played crysis on medium settings a year ago with that shit. Only costs around 1k.

No doubt it could run FF14, but once again, compared side by side with a PS3, the PC would be slightly slower at times. Now, if one were to take and delete all unnecessary programs and tools from their computer until they were left with only what is needed to run FF14, then the PC would probably perform faster. As it stands; however, PC's have more data to process from various different programs that HAVE to run for the PC to function. This is an advantage the PS3's don't have. Still, PC ftw.

Agreed. Every time I play a processor intensive game I usually hit Ctrl. Alt. Delete and shutdown any unnecessary running programs, like explorer.exe.

Here's the trouble with online here, large shipping costs. For example, I could a $45 HD online, but the shipping is almost $30 without taxes added to either. OR I could go and buy the same HD for $60 from a store. My statement still stands however. You won't find a PC cheaper than a PS3 that runs like a PS3.

PS3 and 360s are essentially mid-range computers in terms of Processing power and Graphics. Of course you'll spend more on a good PC than you will on the consoles, but you can do a HELL of a lot more with a PC than the consoles, and you also have the advantage of not having to go out and buy whole new systems when technology changes.

You can also get a quad core processor amd athlon 2.4ghz for under $94 also. Than you can get 4gb ddr2 ram for under $60 and a decent hard drive for about $50 than spend another $100 on the rest of the parts and you will be able to play crysis while a ps3 wont be able to

At launch the PS3 had one of the fastest video cards on the market in it, along with games correctly exclusively programmed to take full advantage of the cell processor. The PS3 is still a beast. Look at some of the exclusives just starting to come out on the PS3. They're properly designed for it. And they all kill anything on the xbox. Uncharted 2, undoubtedly the best game out. Looks beautiful. Really the system is just starting to take off.

But my desktop runs games better than my PS3 and I only have $950 dumped in the case itself. It is cheaper to go the route of the PS3. I don't recommend gaming laptops to anyone. Hard to keep a laptop updated. and the cost isn't worth it. Desktop PC's are easier to keep up to date by replacing parts at a time. and much more affordable.

They probably don't have all the animations in yet, nor i hope is it running at its full speed, because it seems that the fighting is even slower then FFXI. Or i haven't played in such a long time i forgot how slow it really was. ^^

(Help Me Out!) I have a question about the battle system. I hear it's not just sitting still while you watch your character hit the A.I to death anymore. Is this true? If so, to what extent is this truth pulled, meaning is it like lets play devil may cry hit X Y to do a combo, or in a sense, keep pressing X mash on that enemy? Square are planning to release it for the 360 (not that i would play it on a 360) - they are having problems working out with m$ the xbox live gold policy (ie square dont want ppl to pay 2 subs to play their game) - although the release version will almost definately be ps3 and pc only -
Hiromichi Tanaka has commented that this is the main reason there will not be xbox 360 at launch (you can verify the citation wiki>ffxiv)

@bristolmatt28 mmodata(dot)net, click subscriptions 150k-1mil. Companies exaggerate all the time about their subscriptions it wont get them in trouble. NCSoft bragged about having 3mil subscriptions in the east alone for Aion when clearly they only hit it AFTER it was released for the west.

@efknight ok......so what you're saying is that Suare Enix deliberately lied to their shareholders and released a press statement declaring their subscriber numbers were 2 million????? hmmm and where do you think mmodata(dot)net get their info from? surely the only people that know how many subscribers ffxi has.....is Square - I personally will believe a press release in 2009 from a reputable gaming company over mmo(dot)net but maybe i'm crazy.......

@bristolmatt28 Now you just sound like a fanboy. What you read on their website is an announcement. Shareholders can see how many subscriptions there are at any time themselves. Yes they probably did lie about it. mmodata(dot)net is usually always accurate and the person that updates it says you can challenge the info if you want.

ok now you are sounding like a conspiracy theorist !!! why lie? i mean 2 million global isnt very big - why not say 10 million or 11 million !?!?! In any case, I am not a fan boy - I am willing to put down any comapny I have no loyalty to anyone! (I am a computer games dev masters student on placement in london so i do have loyalty to one production house - but its not square!) But I bring you back to my point - where do mmo(dot)net get their info from?

...because as far as i can tell - only ffxi would have that data....... unless they poll every single subscriber? ffxi may give the data willingly to such websites, their figures will be a matter of public record!.....anyway mmo(dot)net or official announcement from ffxi themselves (7 or 8 years into the game i might add - just as they about to replace it with xiv) - perosnally i think you like to make sweeping statements without the info to back them up - but hey - we both know who's right :p

People need to understand that the PS3 is just as lacking as the 360.

@DanSkoglund91 On the contrary, the only thing the 360 can compare to is memory retention. It loses flat out to processing power (which I think was a little obvious to begin with). As with computers, you can't slap on rims to a beat up honda and call it a fancy car. The whole package has to be new and improved. Thats whats required when you want to play a next gen game. Microsoft is just focusing on adding rims to their 360 (Natal etc) when they need a brand new system.

@efknight - agreed on PS3 vs XBOX360 ( memory retention i assume you mean the 10mb of eDRAM that acts as a buffer for the GPU) - The PS3's crowning glory and saving grace though has to be Blu Ray - M$ were crazy to go with a DVD format but hey ho - they on a 10 year life cycle so dont expect to see XBOX720 or whatever for a few years yet! - Incedentally, there is little difference in hardware between the 2 consoles, the PS3 CPU has excelent bandwidth tho (but its GPU is nvidia 7 series based!)

This game looks much better than Square's well....not so great MMO experiment FFXI which failed horribly. Im looking forward to trying this thing out

OOOH wrong again XxArkhamAsylumxX. Final Fantasy XI wasnt really regarded as an experiment (unless you count 7 years of successfully taking subscription fees and developing new content an 'experiment"). It still has 2 millions subscribers - 7 years after release. That is no mean feat in the MMO world. The gameplay and unique job system seem to have kept people playing, despite the last gen graphics. Maybe you would class that as failing horribly....
Nonetheless, I am sure you could do better...

Yeah FFXI managed to hook me for about 3 good years. But then I realized I wouldn't be able to get the shit I wanted to get done in a timely fashion because you have to rely too heavily on people in that game and work around their schedules to do shit. Eventually that shit took its toll on me and after 2 75 jobs and still not being able to get COP storyline done I said to hell with it and canceled. That shit has turned me off to MMO's in general, FF is still my shit though as a series.

you'll find that in any MMO end game. This game is suposed to be a little more user friendly than XI but I hope they dint make it to easy *coughwowcough*

I don't know who gave you a thumbs down, resulting in a -1, but I'm going to give you a thumbs up making it 0. What Kaous10 has stated is true. FFXI depends to much on parties. I've played FFXI for six years and you end up doing a lot of meaningless shouts for parties, missions, and even simple quest that might require a few extra people. Not everyone is helpful in the MMO world. It's hard to get anything especially sky, dynamis, HNM, Sea, anything really.. without the right group of people.

@bristolmatt28 last I checked FFXI clocked in at 500,000 subscribers, Not 2 mil. Don't get me wrong FFXI was my favorite MMO even today but lets not exaggerate for the sake of argument.
