Thank you so much! The lacing trick really helped with my new boots. The insoles in the boots do not come out and with my orthotic inserts they would kill the top of my foot. This works perfectly and still gives support around the ankle. You rock.
Pain on top of the foot can also be a neuroma if it is closer to the toes. That can happen if there is lack of room in the shoe and the toes are being crunched.
Thanks. An alternative lacing is to cross-hatch lace normally up to the last two holes. With the laces comfortably loose, tie simple knots in each of the laces and then lace the remaining two holes. When the laces are tightened, only the last two holes towards the ankles are tightened without applying pressure to the lower top of the foot.
