  • dook? really?

  • This was the most chickenshit form of basketball that there ever was. Thank god the NCAA had enough sense to implement the shot clock. North Carolina won a lot of close games by playing the chickenshit 4 corners.

  • Dean Smith almost single-handedly killed the game of college basketball with this non-playing of the game. It took the NCAA implementing the shot clock to put this nonsense to bed.

  • Most boring basketball of all time..........Thank God it caused the NCAA to implement the shot clock or they would still be doing it!!!

  • teams still do this in high school basketball. I love seeing it, just because of the fact that it is such a significant part of basketball history

  • it is actually quite a freaking irritating strategy... LOL

  • this is when basketball was pure.......no shot clock or 3 point line.

Shot clock hurt college hoops by taking away the 4 corners

3 point line hurt both college and pro by making the game too predictable...........same boring offense.......stand out side the 3 point line to either take a 3...... or fake a 3 and pass it inside......zzzzzzzzz

  • There was no shot clock because carolina's offense forced the ncaa to install the shot clock. Too bad the sooner's weren't smart enough to do that, huh? GO HEELS!

    - and idc if unc did bad this year, well be there next year...

  • this play must;ve been frustrating not only to defend but to watch. No wonder the NCAA implemented the shot clock later on.

  • @hotjun This is nothing. Imagine being in the audience during the game between the Fort Wayne Pistons and the Minneapolis Lakers, where the Pistons won by a score of 19-18.

  • Our 1970's high school basketball program in Maryland was an exact copy of the Dean System at Carolina in that day. We shot the ball out of the 4-corners ONLY if we worked it for a layup - and then only under certain circumstances. A star of our high school back then was Bruce Buckley who played for North Carolina in the 1977 National Championship game against Marquette.

  • you have to come out and guard them because there is no shot clock so if you dont they can hold the ball the entire game with a 2 point lead, so your only option is to put pressure on the ball and try to force a turnover

  • lucky there was no shot clock back then. Sooners would have kicked them!

  • You can see how the four corner can ruin the knees.

  • Why in the world did those two defenders come all the way out to half court to guard those guys instead of staying back and helping to guard Ford?

  • It was unique to Dean Smith back in the day. This was before the shot clocks. Then, they would just pass the ball around until a shot got open. It's called "Four Corners". ;-)

  • My hometown is Rocky Mount NC and went to the same high school as Phil. Greatest point guard in NCAA history IMHO !! I miss the "student" scoreboard the used to have in the corner of the court. Go Heels !!
