  • My dog wasn't supposed to live past his first year but was lucky to receive a 'balloon valvuloplasty' at Michigan State University that saved his life. He is still likely to die from this disease but the surgery has extended his life 5-10 years. We have two doctors, the local vet and MSU heart doctor who work together and are HIGHLY involved in my dogs life. They say I can be proactive and may save his life by monitoring his heart beats and breaths per min, and signs of fluid in the lungs.

  • awww I just want to cry for your dog =( ...Hope he is doing better ! my dog coughs every now and then for like 2 minutes straight . He has since he was a puppy ( chow ) . Actually I dont know if its a cough or what it is but I always thought he was coughing .

  • @pornoslut She is doing a lot better. The vet gave us some new meds and since then she hasn't really had one of these fits. *knock on wood* Thanks for asking. I hope your dog just has a cough. It also could be a inward sneeze or something like that (the vet told us about it, I don't remember what its called tho). It sounds like a cough. They don't last that long (2 mins like you said) and there not bad. Its just like something in their nose (hair, fuzz, etc). :)

  • @CharliesTree i am so glad your dog is better !!! thanks for the tip on the inward sneeze . i hadent thought about that . i feel a bit better knowng thats what it coud be .

  • I know how you feel my dog is coughing I took her to the vets ASAP the vet said it is an allergy and I'm being over protective. I worked in the vet field for 39 years. The second vet said it was her throat it was sore and to change the harness which I did to a shoulder on it does not touch the neck at all. The third vet said it was a cold and gave her meds she is doing better this round. What school do these vets go to??? mine does not feel it is a big deal either. I pray for your baby.

  • aww bless its heart hope she is doing better such a cutie pie my dog has been having breathing problems lately but not the coughing

  • Sadly my pincher passed away just 5 hours ago today at age 14 :_(( RIP Chicco. He was coughing like this or worse since mid july, but we don't have much money to pay surgery to taking him alive, so we just tought he was because of his oldness.

  • Sir, I have a English Cocker Spaniel 4 Yrs 3 Months old. We adopted him when he was just 29 days old. Up to last week he was very healthy and active. Last Saturday he started coughing in night. Immediately next day we took him to our vet and after ECG and other blood tests he has diagnosed left side CHF with other organs in right condition. we love him a lot and treat him our own son. We are very worried. Please tell his balance expected life with proper Med. and our care. Pl. Pl.

  • @killer11929 In the case of my labrador retriever, he was already 9 when he was diagnosed and the average life of a labrador is about 12. The vet said my dog would live about 1 year with treatment. However, killer, talk to your dog's veterinarian...all breeds are different and your dog is a lot younger. Only your vet knows; I am not a veterinarian.

It's painful news but you have some time to make him happy.

  • my dog lived 2 years after diagnosis. His first months were tough, but once the medications were adjusted, he continued to enjoy life, though not running as much. His last 2 months seemed like a miracle, he had lots of energy, enough to visit neighbors :) He died just 2 days ago, at home, in his sleep, peacefully. I miss him terribly.

  • @manhateixeira How old your dog was and breed pl.?

  • @killer11929 he was 11 when he died, a labrador retriever. The vet said that heart failure was more common in smaller breeds, but happens in all.....Wolfie was on several medications all of which helped, but Vetmedin made the huge difference for him. He stopped coughing, his belly got smaller and many more improvements. So that his last 14 months, particularly the last 2-3 months, were awesome. He was happy and playful.

  • @manhateixeira Thanks a lot for reply. Could you please put some light on the information regarding my darling BUZO requested just today by me in this blog. I am ver much worried about my BUZO. REGARDS

  • @killer11929 i can't access any blogs or videos by you ...i don't see a link...but in any case, my best advise is for you to take your BUZO to the doc (veterinary) ...i can only tell you what was done for my dawgie :) hope he does well...stay in touch

  • @manhateixeira Mam, please just see my post below " Sir, I have a English Cocker Spaniel---------Pl.PL.". Could any body share his experience regarding expected life of a dog after developing symptoms of CHF in him?

  • Putting them to sleep, sounds very neat and clean...Would we put a human being to sleep?Anyhow, Please educate yourself about the condition on the net.. Don't rely on your vet completely. YOU are your dog's voice.Magnesium relieves some of the symptoms of heart disease.

  • Honestly putting them to sleep is the best thing to do, and the reason the vet acts that way is because he/she is trying to be professional and when we told the vet we wanted to put him to sleep she said it was the best thing to do. Because when he was making those noises, that means there was fluid in his lungs and he was literally drowning himself to death and it is a painful and sad experience. The best thing to do is to put her to sleep and to be there in her final moments, try not to cry i

  • When ours first started doing this we put him to sleep a couple hours later, it was congestive heart failure and we couldn't stand to to see him on meds and going through surgeries just to see him suffer. We thought it was for the best that we put him to sleep. :(

  • @DannyLrides @DannyLrides She is going through this again. And its been going on for a 2 weeks now. Thats the longest its ever gone on. She is just doped up on meds 24/7 now. So at this time that does cross my mind. Right now she just doesn't seem happy. But its hard cause when she isn't going through this she has so much energy, like a puppy! I don't really know what to do. The vet we are going to acts like its no big deal(I want to punch her). *next*

  • @DannyLrides *continue* I am thinking about taking her to a different vet for a second opinion. But the rest of the family is just worried about cost....For me, you cant put a $ sign on my dogs happiness and health. I think part of me is being selfish. I don't want to put her down. I mean I've had her since I was 4 years old. (I'm 20 now). So I don't really remember life with out her in it. So this is all really hard for me. Again, I just don't know what to do....

  • @DannyLrides omg!!! why!? Mine had/has this and we put him on a herbal treatment and he has been great since. Surely research alternatives before putting him down. There are many things to do and my little one seems to be in better health than ever, despite being told to put him down. That is so sad.

  • Respond to this video... Ok please don't spam me, I don't work for the company or anything. I just came across it when I was researching natural remedies as this is what I do my myself. I came across five leaf pet pharmacy and he has been on this program for over six months now and is great! No medication by vet as I believe that causes more harm that good when you look into it. Another thing you can try absolutely free which works well is hydrotherapy.....

  • Respond to this video... shave the area around your dogs heart, and for 10-15 mins a day blast his heart with 1 minute (hot as he can take it) hot water and then 1 minute cold. Finish with either cool to invigorate him or warm to help him relax, it really perks them up and is so good for the heart. You will notice a difference straight away.

  • I hope your doggie is doing better. I think my dog has the same thing, but am not sure.

  • @krisindc She is doing better, thank you. She just goes through these coughing spells every once in a while. You should take your dog to the vet then. If it is this then that means your dogs lungs are feeling with fluid, and every other organ in your dogs body. Please take your dog to the vet! It could just be a normal cough (cold etc) but even that needs to be taken care of.
