why does ninja 650 exist when there is a CBR 600?

Two different manufacturers? Kawasaki makes the ninja 650, Honda makes the CBR.

Aside from that, the Ninja 650 is a twin, while the CBR600 is an inline 4-cyl. The Ninja650 is meant to compete with other middle-weight twins like the SV650, not with sportbikes like the CBR or GSXR. Kawasaki's line that competes with them is the ZX.

the ninja 650 is for people who dont want to be bent ove like on a CBR, both are awesome bikes, just two diferent riding positions, BTW the new 08 CBR, are friggin awesome.

Wow. Thats worse than asking why 650r and zx-6r both exist. I'll tell you why 650r and cbr 600 both exist. They are made for different purposes. The cbr is a straight-up sport bike, while the 650r is somewhat of a cross between a sport bike and sport cruiser. the seating position and bars make it great for everyday riding and commuting purposes. its also a parallel twin, gettin somewhere around 50 mpg. The two bikes are not really similar at all.
