  • that aint a good solo...sounds like he is banging on damn frying pans! he is a bad ass drummer, but that solo was not a good one at all

  • Ginger baker is probably the no1 drummer in rock history .

only Ian paice from Deep purple can be close to him.

  • Not bad.

  • Monster solo!!!!!

  • Ginger Baker edit this video himself :)

  • WTF ... this guy is in the Best top 5 of All Time ! guess the other four . and that was when it was Real ! . now days Not so much . anybody can sound good , lol ...

  • He should probably be judged on how he participated in and galvanized Cream, not this piddly solo. It was a great band, but that's only my own opinion.

  • he should have shouted NIKE! in the end

  • Audio SUCKS

    Video Sucks

  • He plays so fast his shirt color changes !!!

  • Whoever edited this needs a slap

  • anyone that thinks Ginger Baker is the best drummer in the world knows nothing about drums. he just bangs with single strok rolls because he can't play doubles same with keith moon he wasn;t a good drummer eather. iv,e been playing drums for about 35yr and have played with one of the best known country singer in the world for the past 8yrs. so don't try and say i don't know what i'm talking about.

  • @harold9468 then, who is the best drummer in the world? and dont come out with joey jordison, or travis barker.

  • @harold9468 If they aren't good drummers because they aren't playing doubles how come we aren't watching a video of one of your drum solos that you created some time in the past 8 years while you have been playing with one of the best known country singers in the world?

  • @bunchabullsheet good point.

  • @harold9468 lol lol lol. and we all hread of you ...... ps thsats 2 off the top 5

  • Toad. Yes bad editing...let us just watch the guy. 70's editing...boring.

  • very annoying

  • @DrR0cks0 I don't have anything against Bonham, he is only the third best drummer in the world

  • Take that John Bonham

  • @joewalshman96 You should be saying "Take that Mick Avory!" Leave Bonham out of this! He didn't do anything wrong!

  • Far out man, groovy you know.

  • if you close your eyes, you can only hear the noise of a the machines in a cookie factory. He F* up White room and instaid of using a joint het tried speed today, so what. He's not my favorit, sorry.

  • @Utalpo fuck you dude. ginger is the best. period. take your faggot ass else where

  • original skill

  • Don't blame the cameramen gentlemen, blame whoever edited the video, and was cutting rapidly between all the shots

  • Amazing drummer, worst camera man in the universe.

  • At the time Ginger was the only person in the world who could do this

  • @stevesterl No Way. Max Roach, Tony Wiliams, Budy Rich, listen to some jazz, man.

  • @RaddNiner Ginger Baker was originally a jazz drummer, his ideas and playing were just too different and far out there for jazz musicians and so he was kicked out of the jazz band he had joined. Ginger originally meant to play jazz only hence his knowledge in rudimentary skills

  • wow

  • I wonder who had more drugs in his blood, Ginger or the camera man.

  • That is how its meant to be done

  • HUGE DIFERENCE ON AN "R"

    BAKER (Y) BA"R"KER (N) BUUU

  • The camera operators should be shot - as if we need their antics to make Baker more exciting. They just make it harder to appreciate what he's doing.

  • @favorsham i totally agree it made me dizzy

  • @favorsham dude it was the 60's everybody was on acid so give the bums some credit!

  • Baker > Mitchell > Bonham

  • @RastafariPoet Bonham learnt from West Africa very Much to drum.

  • @zsobrak And yet he still doesn't even scratch the surface of Baker's drumming career. His solos are yet to be recreated. I can find replicas of John Bonham's solo everywhere!

  • @guywiththegrass oh right mitch slipped my mind!!! how the hell could i forget him!! his drumming on fire is well FIRE!! lol

  • @zepher1494 And Topper Headon

  • ...and thus death metal was born.

  • Buddy Rich shits travis Barker as well

  • hello there!!

  • dude that guy is so high

  • @RubenMc1000 Drugs were nothing but lubrication for the brain back then

  • @80sKatt still are

  • moon, baker, bonham the three greatest drummers ever!

  • @zepher1494 dont forget mitch mitchell

  • I still think Baker was under rated, and i know for sure he would be proud of drummings next big thing, MMA's ray3handssnowdotcom) just google him, hes a freak, and starting to change the instrument.

  • you cant polish shit and guess what Ginger baker needs all the polish he can get.

  • Yeah, it'd be nice if I could SEE what he's doing!!!!!

  • Ginger Baker is an expert on most types of drumming he is the only white drummer who grasps African rhythms He drummed for Fela Kuti in place of the afrobeat drummer Tony Allen look up GingerBaker in Afriica. He is in a differant league to Travis Barker Gingers son Kofi Baker is better than Travis Barker he is on youtube check him out

  • this is so classic!

  • Aaron Gillespie and travis barker are both much better, Ginger Baker can't play much variety but both Gillespie and Barker can

  • Yup, the camera really lets this classic bit of skin pounding down, sadly. Other than that...bloody legend!

  • your efforts remain forever

made a good difference in my life

    love you Bro

  • in the late 60,s Buddy Rich was on the Johnny Carson show and Johnny asked him who he liked in todays music as a drummer. Buddy Rich said baby the only one i could think of following me is the drummer Ginger Baker. Alot of years not in those exact words i know , but this is the basic conversation. At the time and still that little moment blew me away. anyone else recall this. thank you. Drohegda

  • fake

  • don't shit me, travis barker? ok he's kinda good for a punk pop drummer, but saying he's the best? hahahea there are a dozen of drummers who are faaaaaar better than him, sorry man, just learn a few more about drum techniques and you'll notice that...

  • Baker plays four different beats at once

  • @Drumboy5165 Travis Barker is the drummer of present day, maybe, but the best drummer ever?! No WAY!! Keith Moon, Mick Fleetwood here mr Baker the beast on the drums and buddy rich are the real drummers.

  • @Fearpiak i assure you that Drumboy5165 was utilizing some not-so subtle sarcasm in his reply to me.

and i DO agree with you - - Travis IS good, but these 12-year olds [who often manage to work 'travis' into their youtube handles] who troll Buddy Rich/Ginger Baker/Neil Pert videos and say that travis barker is better...well, they demonstrate their cluelessness every time they type. that's what Drumboy5165 was mimicking.

  • @Fearpiak Buddy Rich. travis barker who? that guys a hackjob..doesn't even compare to Ginger Baker,John Bohnam or Keith Moon let alone them comparing to Buddy Rich lol or Max Roach or Gene Krupa

  • All that while changing his shirt! Rock on Ginge!

  • How many arms does this guy have?!

  • @TheKogunEnjou that would require a metaphysical discussion

  • y o all these videos never show the kit only his face

  • Ginger Baker and Carl Palmer are gods. NO ONE even comes close.

  • @Exumaishere Carl Palmer lol, that guy is on a whole other level ,same with Ginger..they get their own genres they are so good. I do have to say though Carl Palmer's classical approach is unfucking matched because he approaches the drumset as an orchestral instrument in a symphony....Tarkus for example is so precise and complex in its structuring and execution.Unfortunately people don't know who these 2 guys are nowdays other than a few .This video in example should have millions of views

  • I wanna punch whoever edited this right in the face.

  • joey jordinson can suck it

  • shit man.... he's crazy good.

  • GINGER is a Metaller. Ginger sounds so fucking Amazing Metal.

  • From what I hear he's living in south africa these days. He's become a bit of an angry old ma, but he still has his chops. Too bad he's a recluse now. :(

  • check out da4desigirls

  • A drummer with a style all his own. Not polished, not deliberate like Bonham or fast and smooth like Mitchell. Not like Keith Moon, Baker accentuated the double bass. Early on, Baker tilted his tom-toms flat! No one else ever did! Way too hard to reach, consistently for a smooth roll from tom-toms to snare or to the floor tom-toms! Sadly, I saw Cream at Madison Sq. Garden and they were awful! Slow, way too loud, out of sync, sounded terrible and kind of stumbling. Bittersweet for sure!

  • That's a shame. I can remember them when they were great.

  • I Loved them. They were and are my favorite group of all time. I couldn't stay away, because I had to see them one more time! As a group, they were way too long in the tooth and it was bittersweet! I paid the $130.00 per ticket to see them One More Time! Whew! But I still have those GREAT memories of them in the 60's! That'll never change!

  • i was named after him ... haha :D my dad got the same style... offbeats and different patterns simultaneously... :D

  • This camera guy is REALLY pissing me off! so much ZOOOOOOOOOM and ZWWOOOOOOSH and nausiating spinning...

  • probably in some bad acids hahaha

  • @assholefuckerjackass this were the 60's y'know... He was probably trying to picture how people saw things at the time.

  • Ginger challenged Buddy Rich to a drum battle one time, and then failed to show up (unexplained why).

  • I thought I'd seen and read everything about Ginger Baker - but never heard that story before....

  • CATERVA!

  • I saw Ginger Baker's play at Harpo's in Detroit around 1985. He spit a burning cigarette into the air, and nailed it with a drumstick - talk about control!

  • that's the toad i remember

  • Beauty!

  • @santamara YEP!! I agree!!

  • :) Nice!

  • Master of the offbeat

  • True MASTER, thanks Ginge !

  • Sick. <3

  • FREIGHT TRAIN

  • 1:28 forward

    DRILL CAT olol

  • Ginger is a freak of nature. I thought it was impossible to drum so frantically and still create rhythm, especially between his upper extremities and lower extremities, let alone between left and right. Incredible!!!!!!!!!!

  • cHECK OUT DAVE bLACK LONG DRUM SOLO ON YT. hE WAS THE FIRST DRUMMER TO USE DOUBLE BASS IN dUKE eLLINGTIONS BAND. AND IS MENTIONED BY gb AS WHY HE PLAYS DOUBLE BASS DRUMS; ALSO PHENOMONAL eXAMPLE OF SPEED AND CONTROL USING TRADITIONAL GRIP. aLSO jOJO mAYER AND "DRUM bATTLE" W/ gb AND OTHER bRIT DRUMMERS. cd "THE aLBUM" BEST SAMPLE OF HIS ENTIRE CAREER ESP. DRUM BATTLE W/aRT bLAKELY 16 MIN. lIVE AT 72 mUNICH oLYMPICC GAMES.

  • @giacblanc Louie Bellson used a double Bass in the same band in 1946. But Ginger credits Sam Woodyard who also played for Duke Ellington as an influence for the DB. Louie Bellson played for Doc Severenson on the Johnny Carson show. He and Buddy Rich had several drum jams together on the show. As a kid I used to stay up late to watch them. Ed Shaughnessy too. Great times great stuff.

  • there are a lot better vids of Ginger than this....

  • There might be better quality videos out there of Ginger but his playing is still top notch here...

  • Dont be sorry ,I did`nt say constantly either. I was talking technique. , along with Indian and African ostinatos.

  • Listen to that double kick damn man.

  • The Video quality doesnt so this solo justice

  • Man o man can he play.

  • How many drummers sound like a frieght train or Harley revvin up !?!?!?

  • keith moon

  • @boobj im sorry thats not a cool sound.... to hear constatnly..

  • one of my favorite drummers of all time

  • suck on THAT, Travis Barker!

  • @bedpan25 but uh uh uh uh Travis is uh like the uh best drummer in the universe uh and nobody has ever played good before him uh....................

  • @Drumboy5165 haha!

  • @bedpan25 ;) Thanks for catching that...I noticed your other post regarding my comment as well...I sure hope others can catch the thick sarcasm there too!! Have a great blessed day!

  • @bedpan25 baker couldnt even hold there sticks.

  • This looks to me like it was lifted straight from the 'professional' quality DVD that you can buy in the shops. If you don't like the quality then I think you need to address your citicisms to the producer, Tony Palmer who mixed and cut this vid in 1968 ;-)

It is awful, but alledgedly he was faced with two fixed cameras on either side of the stage which gave him very limited options. The psychadelic effects were to try & make something interesting out of two very stiff camera sequences...

  • nONSENSE ALL YOU NEEDED WAS TWO CAMERAS SHOULD FOCUS ON SOLO GB OR LEAD ERIC /JACK W/ OTHER TWO IN BACKGROUND. nEEDLESS TO SAY THEY LOOKED AS GOOD AS THEY PLAYED. CAN ONLY HOPE SOME ONE HAS THE RAW FOOTAGE AND IT CAN BE RE-EDITED. THE BEST PART OF THE DVD IS THEIR INTERVIEWS. nOT TO MENTION THEY DON'T PLAY THEIR TWO BEST SONGS AT ALL!

  • Please don't post lousey quality comments like this just to get on YouTube. Thx

  • This is from 1968!

  • i want to shoot the camera guy .. i can't see what gingers doing because the camera guy thought it'd be good to film like he's having a seizure. cool drum solo though

  • That's because everyone was on acid.

  • im african american are you trying to insult me?

  • Amazingly fast and good skills. But I don't get it musically.

  • What do you say to the Baker detractors who say Bonham was far and away a better drummer? I listen to Toad on Wheels and after 40 years the hair still stands up on my arms. And with all 3 of them jamming at 1:20 in that song it sends a chill down my spine each and every time I hear it.

  • bonham and baker play different styles so idk both i think are equal!

  • brandontylerkaiser, you are absolutely right. Just like Page, Clapton and Hendrix ahve all different styles. My thought is that Ginger is the best though - he's fing all over the place and his drumming makes sense .

  • pLUS HE INCLUDES THE ENTIRE HISTORY OF DRUMS FROM bABBY dODDS TO dAVE bLACK TO BE BOP. hOWEVER HE HAS NEVER BEEN KNOWN TO COMPLEMENT ANYONE WHO CAME AFTER HIM. CHECK OUT dAVE bLACK LONG DRUM SOLO AND jOJO MEYER

  • hes the greates ginger

  • This guy is the best rock drummer alive no one could match his speed and talent as far as doyleawdanzig I don't think you seen any backyard drummers this good its not about speed. But what do you expect from idiots.

  • Very true. DoyleawtDanzig is in a league of his own as an asshole.

  • It cracks me up. I just read a comment below that says something like "My friends can play this fast!" As if playing fast is what it's all about. Sad...sad sad.

  • i saw ginger do a drum solo with two feet and one hand and drink a six pack of beer witht hte other

  • no me n your mom are and we're bangin but we aint bangin on trash cans like you and your soon to be gay father are :]

  • i take ginger over mary-ann anyday

  • great. only shows a blue screen that says greatest drummer. No sound. Perfect.

  • its not all about speed idiot

  • wtf...well i guess sumone has a stick up their ass

  • BEST DRUMMER EVR EXISTED FUCK

  • You can have all your favorite Drummers and people who can do handstands on the Drums and play circles around everybodyyou want! But there is only one GINGER BAKER!!!!!!!

  • baker, bonham and moon are the best

  • first of all, let me go on record as saying Travis Barker sucks. However, as much as I appreciate what Ginger Baker has done for the drumming world, there's no way you can call him, or anyone else for that matter, the best drummer in the world. That's simply because all drummers have slightly different styles of playing.

  • World's greatest drummer... 5 stars

  • Never heard of her

  • hahaah

  • If you look closely, Ginger "changes clothes" during this video. There were actually two shows at RAH and Tony Palmer used footage from both for this program. Eric was so upset by the camera work that he didn't talk to Palmer for a long, long time.

  • stop the camera !!!!!!fuck cant see wat hes doing

  • Whats the fuss about? Look at the technology back then, pedals were crap. He comes from a background that emphasizes rudiments etc. Listen to Cream songs, try and play along and then tell me Ginger isn't brilliant and an innovator. Today's drummers are great, guy's like Baker, Bill Ward etc pathed the way. My old ludwig pedal would make you laugh, hardley anything to it.

  • Ringo Starr--good subject. He, too, is brilliant. Listen and watch---trademark riding the high hat and his timing is impeccable. If anyone is UNDER rated,. it would be Ringo Starr. No fault can be found with him.

  • FUCK YOU !!!!!!!~!!

  • Ringo is overrated. Saying a drummer has perfect timing as a good thing is like complimenting a singer on their ability to sing in tune. If they can't they suck. Ringo is as bad as you could be before you shouldn't even be playing.

  • Agreed there Kaeleeman.

  • For the one who says he is "smashing" all over, think of it this way: He is one of the most gifted syncopated drummers of all time. that is NOT smashing around. It is brilliance.

  • He's not syncopating anything...do you even play drums? Syncopated beats have nothing to do with his playing - maybe synchronized is the word you're looking for but he's sure not doing that - check out virgil donati to see real complicated polyrythmic playing.

  • you gotta be kidding, comparing travis with ginger is so stupid...

  • Ginger Baker plays better now he's old than Travis will ever play or have played :)

  • your talking about peart being good, he uses the snare sooooooooo much more then ginger does, and hes does the same dam 3 beats

  • But Travis plays in a popular band as well, and that's probably why you like him. Hipocrite much? You're a fucking idiot. Travis is one of the most overrated drummers ever. I don't think he even knows what a polyrhythm is, and he's never done anything nearly as complicated as toad.

  • Actually I don't like Travis at all - I think he's terribly overrated much like Ginger Baker. I was just making the comparison and pointing out that Ginger was the "Travis Barker" of his time in terms of being ridiculously overrated.

  • I don't think that's true. There were other drummers who were much more overrated, and Ginger did do some unique things. Not only that, but he was one of the only musicians from that time who actually grew and improved.

  • We all have our own choice and as far as care Ginger comes tops with me

  • Something Ginger might even agree too: Elvin Jones - Greatest Drummer of all time

  • the greatest rock drummer ever! ( sorry Ringo)

  • Althou Ringo was not on the level of Baker and Moon in the ability to play fast. He was the PERFECT drummer for the Beatles music. Imagine Baker or Moon trying to complement the Beatles style - not.

  • Yes, M13, you are absolutely right!

Ringo was thee perfect drummer for the Beatles. Baker is too frenetic for the Beatles. They wouldn't have put up with it.

  • everyone is entitled to thier opinion, but i do not think that ginger baker is over rated.

  • You are an idiot and you know nothing about drums

  • Sorry Milo1950. Lerothecat isn't an idiot. Check out Alphonse Mouzon and you hear really one of the best drummers

  • You need to listen to the offbeat stuff he does. Nobody could do that stuff even Keith Moon. Buddy Rich maybe.
